Election Day is Tuesday (Today, May 6) in Coffee County. Being voted on are races for County Mayor, Trustee, Register of Deeds, General Sessions Judge Part II, Road Superintendent, various County Commission seats, Road Commissioners and constables. Some candidates are running unopposed in certain races. 2,840 people voted during early voting, about 10% of those who are registered. Update On Poker Machine Raid In Manchester
We reported to you yesterday about two businesses having possible illegal poker machines removed from their establishments last week in Manchester. The question is whether the money in the machines can kept by the Manchester Police department? Coffee County District Attorney Mickey Layne reminds everyone the machines are not illegal until money payoffs occur. Layne says that a forfeiture warrant has to be filed by police. A hearing would have to be held in front of a judge concerning the confiscation. The judge would rule if there is enough evidence for the money in the machines to be seized...

Poker Machines Taken Away From Local Businesses
Acting on a citizen compliant Manchester Police entered two businesses Thursday afternoon and seized poker machines. According to Police Chief Mark Yother, police received complaints that the poker machines could be found in the Short Stop Market on Highway 53 and the C and B Go Mart, near Wal Mart on the Hillsboro Boulevard. “Officers found five machines at the Short Stop Market and seven machines at the C & B Mart,” the chief stated. Wheel Tax Could Be On August Ballot
The Coffee County Budget and Finance Committee voted Thursday for a wheel tax referendum to be recommended be adopted by the full commission on May 13. The committee’s vote also included a recommended amount of $50 for the proposed wheel tax, which voters would have the opportunity to approve or disapprove on the August ballot. Murder Trial Set For June
There was a domestic violence related murder Valentine’s Day, 2013 in Murfreesboro. The incident happened at a home in the Blackman community. The female victim 31-year-old Carla Pearman, formally Carla Dillard of Manchester, was allegedly killed by the hands of her husband of 3 months, 28-year-old Jacob Pearman. The accused killer will face judge and jury on June, 16, 2014 in Murfreesboro. Pearman was taken into custody in Manchester after fleeing Rutherford County in the female victims’ Jeep. Couple Arrested For Abandoment In Moore County
A Kentucky couple was arrested in Moore County recently on charges of being fugitives from justice. Richard Joseph Driver, 65, and Michelle Pogue Driver, 64, who were living at 205 Main St. in Lynchburg, were arrested after the Moore County Sheriff’s Department was alerted by the U.S. Marshal’s Service.
