We reported to you yesterday about two businesses having possible illegal poker machines removed from their establishments last week in Manchester. The question is whether the money in the machines can kept by the Manchester Police department?
Coffee County District Attorney Mickey Layne reminds everyone the machines are not illegal until money payoffs occur. Layne says that a forfeiture warrant has to be filed by police. A hearing would have to be held in front of a judge concerning the confiscation. The judge would rule if there is enough evidence for the money in the machines to be seized by police.
Manchester police will continue to look into other complaints about businesses that that are paying off on poker machines.
