TSSAA Spring Fling Begins Today For Coffee County’s Haley Banks

Coffee County Central High School senior Haley Banks will compete in the Pentathlon at the TSSAA Spring Fling on Monday beginning at 10:00 AM at MTSU.  Banks has also qualified individually in the 100M hurdles and the shot put for the Spring Fling.  The Pentathlon consists of the 100M hurdles, High Jump, Shot Put, Long Jump and 800M run.

The first annual Sports Radio “The Ticket” (our sister station), Sports Expo presented by the Stan McNabb Automotive Group was held at Northgate Mall in Tullahoma on Saturday. The Celebrate Party Store Stage saw many special guests interviewed by our staff. The FREE event saw 100’s of people attend and enjoy the day. Kids were not left out as they had fun in the Coca-Cola Kid’s Zone.

Fitness, Health, and Sports related vendors gave out information and prizes from their businesses. Thanks to Rodney’s Body Shop and Mike’s Tire, Brake and Muffler for their sponsorships as well. Oh by the way Eric Keith won sports announcer challenge in the 5K run brought to you by Urgent team.

UPDATE–Coffee County Lady Raiders Are State Tournament Bound!!

TSSAA-Spring-Fling-LogoThe Coffee County Lady Raiders are headed back to the TSSAA State Tournament. The softball ladies defeated Cookeville 2-1 Friday night to punch their ticket to the Spring Fling in Murfreesboro.
Brianna Jones struck out 12 allowing just one run as she picked up the win. Jones added a hit and knocked in Kaylee Skipper for an RBI. Anna Spellings scored the second run on a throwing error on the Cavalier catcher. Jones was named the Gateway Tire and Service Center Player of the Game.

Cookeville scored its only in the sixth on a solo home run by Sydney Price.
Head Coach Terry Floyd said after the game he was very proud of his team. He said despite only having one senior this team has done everything a coach can expect. Floyd added the Lady Raiders have just continued to get better and better as the season went along.

Coffee County at (29-13-1) will play Gibbs (46-4) in the first round of the state tournament Tuesday night 6pm at Startplex in Murfreesboro. The Lady Raiders will play Wednesday at either 10am or noon depending on Tuesday’s outcome. The Wednesday game will be played at McKnight Fields. Thunder Radio will carry all games live.

The Coffee County Lady Raider’s softball team moved one step closer to a state tournament bid with 4-0 win at Oakland on Thursday night in the Region 4-AAA championship game. Junior Pitcher Brianna Jones was again outstanding striking out 13 giving her 347 on the season.
Catcher Tori Bell was named the Gateway Tire and Service Player of the Game as she had 2 hits and an RBI.
One of the most exciting plays of the night came when Taylor Barnes stole home for Coffee County’s 2nd run of the night.

With the win the Lady Raiders at 28-13-1 on the year will host Cookeville Friday night at 7pm. The winner of the game will earn a trip to the TSSAA Spring Fling State Tournament next week in Murfreesboro. Friday’s game will be live on Thunder Radio beginning at 7pm.

The CHS Girls Track team continued their strong 2014 campaign at the Sectional meet at Riverdale on Tuesday. The Lady Raiders sent 3 athletes to the sectional meet competing in 5 events and ended up earning 3 spots in next week’s Spring Fling. Senior Haley Banks qualified for the state meet in the 100M Hurdles and Shot Put while freshman Karson Young qualified for the Triple Jump. Banks will run in the 100M Hurdles preliminaries at 5:00 PM on Wednesday (May 21st) then come back at 9:00 AM on Thursday (May 22nd) for the Shot Put. Young will compete on Thursday at 10:15 AM in the Triple Jump. Additionally, Banks qualified for the Pentathlon earlier this month. The Spring Fling Pentathlon begins competition at 10:00 AM on Monday.

Coffee Middle Track Team Wraps Up Regular Season

The Coffee Middle School Track teams hosted Warren County on Tuesday in their final regular season meet. The Raider teams swept Warren County by scores of 68 to 28 for the girls and the boys won 58 to 38. Several 8th graders were not available as they were attending the academic banquet. The girls won the 4×100 and 4×200 relays. The boy’s team swept all 3 relay races winning the 4×100, 4×200 and 4×400.

Lady Buck Signs To Further Her Education and Basketball Career

Motlow College sophomore Briana McDonald recently signed a national letter of intent to continue her basketball career as a student-athlete at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville. McDonald, from Tullahoma, led the Lady Bucks in scoring and rebounding during the 2013-14 season.

The Coffee County Lady Raiders hosted the defending Class-AAA state softball champs, the Smyrna Lady Bulldogs on Monday night in the Region 4-AAA tournament.
Brianna Jones was strong at the plate and on the rubber in carrying the Lady Raiders to a 1-0 victory over the Lady Bulldogs.
Brianna led the Lady Raiders offensive threat with a key single in the sixth inning that led to the winning run as Jones’ courtesy runner Grace Spellings scored on a passed ball.
Jones kept Smyrna off the scoreboard for all seven innings for the shutout, striking out 6.
Haley Hinshaw, Brittany Williams and Anna Spellings added hits for Coffee County.

The Lady Raiders will travel to Murfreesboro to take on Oakland Wednesday night for the Region 4-AAA championship. The Lady Patriots came from behind to beat Lincoln County Monday night 7-6. If Coffee County wins they’ll host the sectional game on Friday it not they’ll travel.

Middle School Golf Season Wraps Up Season

The Middle School golf season came to a close on Monday in the Conference Tournament hosted by Westwood and Coffee Middle and played at Willowbrook. In girls play, Harris Middle edged Westwood by 1 stroke to claim 2nd place with a score of 114. North Franklin won the girls tournament with a 109. Coffee Middle came in 4th carding a 126. Individually, Coffee Middle’s Jacque Crossland was the 2nd place finisher as she finished with a 45. Malia Stovall of North Franklin shot a 3 over 39 to win the girls division. Jordan Green and Maggie Partin came in 4th and 5th place respectively. Green shot a 52 and Partin ended with a round of 63.

In boys play, Tullahoma had 4 of the top 5 finishers beating Coffee County 174 to 204. Westwood finished 5th with a total of 226. Individually, Tullahoma’s Jacob Uehlein smoked the course with a 2 over 38 to win the individual trophy. Austin Farris of Coffee Middle finished in 4th place with a 45. Josh Perry finished the round with a 50 for Coffee Middle. Jacob Garms was low scorer for Westwood as he got around in 53 while the Rockets Austin Burch shot a 54.

Huge Baseball Tournament Starts Thursday For Motlow

Motlow BucksThe Motlow Bucks will face the host school, Georgia Perimeter, in the opening round of the NJCAA East Central District baseball tournament on Thursday, May 15 at 2:30 p.m. central time at Jaguar Baseball Stadium in Covington, Ga.
The four-team tournament will decide the East Central representative in the upcoming National Junior College Athletic Association JUCO World Series, scheduled for May 24-31 in Grand Junction, Co.
The Bucks with 40 wins this season is the most since Motlow won 41 games in 2005 and only the second time a Motlow baseball team has won 40 or more games since the 2000 season. There have been seven teams in Motlow baseball history that have won 40 or more games in a season, with the 2000 squad holding the school record with 57 wins.
