A 13 run explosion in the second inning was enough to power the Lady Rocket softball team to a 19 to 4 win over Riverside Christian on Friday afternoon at Westwood. Sarah West and Alexcia Barnes were each 3 for 3 for the game as Westwood banged out 15 hits. West and Carlee Sullivan each were a home run shy of the cycle while Keyleigh Alford had a single, a triple and 3 RBI. Hallie Wimberly got the win in the circle as she scattered 5 hits with 3 strikeouts. Westwood will be at home on Saturday for a doubleheader with Community. First pitch is scheduled for noon at Lady Rocket Field.

Raiders Fall Despite Sandavol’s Effort
The District 8-AAA baseball tournament began for the Coffee County Red Raiders on Thursday night in Winchester.
The Franklin County Rebels scored a run in the 1st and that’s all they needed as Gus Barstad would hold the Raiders to just 2 hits on the night. The Rebels score the only other run in the game in the 4th to make the final 2-0. Peyton Booth and Brandon Haston had the only hits for Coffee County.
Pitcher Dylan Sandavol allowed just one earned run and was named the Gateway Tire and Service Center player of the game.

The Raiders will play at home on Saturday afternoon at 1pm in a loser’s bracket game.
Thursday Prep Roundup
After having their tennis match on Wednesday canceled due to a bomb threat at Shelbyville, the Westwood Rocket tennis teams returned to action on Thursday as they traveled to Tullahoma. The veteran Wildcats teams swept Westwood boys 9-0 while the girls got beat 7-2. Lacey Deason and Natalie Elzeer had the wins for Westwood in singles play. The Rockets will be back in action on Monday as they travel to Sewanee to take on St. Andrew’s. The singles matches will start at 4:00 PM.
The Westwood Rocket team fought hard against conference leading Forrest on Thursday but had no answer for the visiting Rockets as they fell 17 to 1. Westwood’s bats were silenced until the 4th inning as Forrest held Westwood hitless in the first 3 innings with 7 strikeouts. In the 4th, Westwood got hits from Winston Alford and Byron Sullivan and used 2 Forrest errors to score Sullivan. Sullivan was the lone bright spot offensively for Westwood as he was 1 for 1 with a walk and a run scored. Defensively, Alford had 6 putouts at shortstop and a pair of assists. The game marked the end of the regular season for Westwood as they will next be in action in the conference tournament starting on Friday, May 8th. The Rockets opponent and location will be announced later.
A strong regular season gave way to a short postseason as the Coffee County Middle School baseball team fell 14 to 1 to South Franklin on Thursday in the first round of the CTC Conference Tournament in Sparta. A rash of errors and walks spelled doom for the Red Raiders as the bats went cold against the Trojans. Coffee County was held to only 3 hits as Cody Esslinger, Hayden Skipper and Tyler Serber were credited with hits and Trace Bryant scored the lone Raider run. With the loss, the Red Raiders ended the season with a record of 9 wins, 7 losses and a tie.
Erin Ferrell tossed a 2 hitter and the Coffee County Middle School softball banged out hits as they routed South Franklin 16 to 1 in the first round of the CTC Conference softball tournament. The Lady Raiders had 4 different players with 2 hits each. Haley Richardson had a double and a triple with 3 RBI. Ashley Evans had a double and a single while Amanda Mukai had 2 hits and reached base when she was hit by a pitch. Shannah Frame was 2 for 3 on the night with 2 singles. With the win, the Lady Raiders will take on Tullahoma on Friday night beginning at 7:00 PM at East Middle School in Tullahoma.
Jones Earns Big Honor
Jones was tremendous in the circle last week for the Red Raiders, posting a 3-0 mark without allowing a run and surrendering just three hits in 18.2 inning of work last week. She threw a pair of one-hit shutouts and struck out 37 batters to just four walks. In a 3-0 victory over Tullahoma, Jones was masterful as she struck out 17, walked two and allowed just one hit. She followed that with a five-inning, 10-strikeout blanking of Warren County. The senior right-hander kicked off her week tossing 6.2 innings of one-hit scoreless ball with 10 strikeouts during a 2-0 triumph over Lawrence County. For the week, she held her opponents to a .050 batting average.
CHS Baseball Edges Lincoln County on Wednesday
Needing a win to extend their season, Coach Jon Spears of the Coffee County Red Raiders gave the pitching nod to the staff ace Trace Friedlein in Lincoln County on Wednesday night. Friedlein pitched a complete game 2 hitter to lead the Red Raiders to a 3 to 2 win and extend the season into the district tournament. The win for Coffee County was their first in nearly 3 weeks as the Raiders dropped the Falcons in the District 8AAA play-in game. The Raiders started hot and finished strong as Coffee County scored 2 runs in the first inning and Friedlein got 2 of his 4 strikeouts in the 7th inning. Peyton Booth led off the game with an infield single, one of his 3 hits on the game. Booth, was singled home by Wyatt Day before Friedlein scored on an outfield error. The Raiders added the winning run in the 3rd inning as Deandre Wakefield hit an RBI triple to score Gavin Husted. Husted, who singled in the 3rd inning, finished with 2 hits for Coffee County.

For their outstanding play, Peyton Booth and Trace Friedlein were named Gateway Tire and Service Center Co-Players of the Game. With the win, Coffee County advances into the double elimination district tournament. The Raiders will travel to Franklin County on Thursday night for a 6:00 PM game with the Rebels. CHS Soccer Closes Regular Season with a Win on Tuesday
Ending the regular season in McMinnville, the CHS soccer team capped off a great 2 week stretch with a 3 to 1 victory over the Pioneers. Coffee County got on the board in the 2nd minute as Samuel Brown scored, with an assist from Ernesto Gomez, for the Raiders. A strong back line and diving save by Raider keeper Lafredo Ramirez made that score hold up until halftime. In the second half, the Raiders got 2 goals in a 5 minute span to seal the win. In the 58th minute, a long punt from Ramirez cleared the Warren County defense allowing Paco Barrera to make it a 2 to 0 game. Nick Hough lifted a shot over the keeper in the 63rd minute to put the icing on the cake. Warren County got a late goal but it was not enough to prevent Coffee County from getting their 4th win in their last 5 matches. The Raiders will open the postseason on Monday at the Raider Soccer Field as they play host to either Lawrence County or Lincoln County in the first round of the District 8AAA tournament. After claiming the district’s #2 seed, the Raiders have the opportunity to play a second round game of their home pitch with a win. Kickoff Monday is set for 7 PM.
Jones No-Hits Whitwell For 2nd Time This Season

Brianna Jones threw her 4th no-hitter of the year and her 2nd of the season against Whitwell. She struck out 9 batters on the night. Jones helped her own cause with a hit and an RBI.
Coffee County led 1-0 going into the top of the 7th inning and that’s when the bats got hot as 4 runs scored. The Lady Raiders had 14 hits on the night with Brittany Williams leading the way with 3 hits plus she scored twice and had an RBI. Tori Bell had 3 hits, Shelby Scrivnor 2 hits and 2 RBI’s and Kaylee Skipper added 2 hits.
Coffee County will play in the district tournament at 2pm on Saturday. All tournament games will be played in Columbia. Hear the game live on Thunder Radio.
Raiders Fall To Pope John Paull II
On Monday night the Coffee County Red Raider baseball team traveled to Hendersonville to take on Pope John Paul II School.
The Knights jumped to an early 3-0 after the first inning and they added another run for a 4-0 advantage after 4. The Raiders battled back to cut the lead to 4-3 in the 5th. Zach Holmes knocked in 2 runs and JP Duncan added an RBI. Despite those efforts Pope John Paul II School went on to win the non-district game, 4-3.
Kohl Young took the hard luck loss for Coffee County.
The Raiders will travel to Lincoln County on Wednesday for a 6pm first-pitch. The winner of this game will advance to the District 8-AAA baseball double elimination tournament. The season will end for the loser. Thunder Radio will have the broadcast starting at 5:50pm.
College Street 3rd Graders Shine at Nashville Race
Three College Street Elementary 3rd graders finished in the top 3 spots on Sunday at the Kids Rock Nashville Race sponsored by the Middle Tennessee YMCA. Greenlee Woods finished in first place in her age group at 6:22. Jorga Waggoner was 2nd at 6:54 and Madison Pruitt crossed the line 3rd at 7:32. The race featured a one mile course covering the immediate area around LP Field and in the adjoining neighborhood. The event is part of a nationwide program open to kids in grades Kindergarten thru 7th grade and is held in conjunction with the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series.
Lady Raider Tennis Charges to District Title Match

A strong singles performance lifted the Lady Raider tennis team to a 4 to 2 win over Lincoln County on Monday in the district team tennis semifinals. Savannah Hodge, playing in the 4th spot, trailed 4 to 1 early in her match against her Lady Falcon opponent, only to roar back to capture a 9 to 7 win and give Coffee County a 3 to 2 lead heading to doubles play. From there, the #1 doubles team of Karlee Reed and Maddie Taylor blitzed the #1 Lincoln County team 8 to 2 to advance the Lady Raiders to the district finals later in the week. Other singles winners were Alex Crossland (8 to 5) and Maddie Taylor (8 to 2). Also in singles, Karlee Reed lost her match to the district’s singles champion by a score of 8 to 5 while Alli Shelton fought tooth and nail in a 9 to 7 loss. With the win, the Lady Raiders will take on the winner of tonight’s Tullahoma/Shelbyville match or Thursday or Friday. Stay tuned to Thunder Radio for the district championship match information.
