After Thrilling Boys Game, Cats Sweep Raiders
Tuesday night in high school basketball Coffee County traveled to Tullahoma for District 8-AAA action. In girl’s play the Lady Cats got off to a hot start leading 14-0 early in the game and 38-20 at halftime. Coffee County fought hard to pull within 7 points in the 4th quarter but Tullahoma held on for the 59-47 district win. Leading the way for the Lady Raiders was Holli Smithson with 10 points. A 38 point second half explosion keyed a 56 to 38 win for the Lady Raiders of Coffee County Middle School over Warren County on Monday night. Leading by a single point at the half, the Lady Raiders used an 18 point 3rd quarter and a strong full court defense to throttle the Lady Pioneers upset hopes. Former Sports Writer and Broadcaster Passes Away
On Monday Manchester and WMSR Radio lost a good friend. Derek Harryman passed away at age 29. Harryman was a sports writer for several years at the Saturday Independent and then at the Manchester Times. Harryman also broadcasted sports events on Thunder Radio, from basketball to softball and baseball. Derek was also the PA voice for Coffee County softball for the past several years and broadcasted football last season for WFTZ. Boys Basketball Coach Relieved Of Duties At Coffee County High School
Thunder Radio News has learned that Coffee County Central High School boys head basketball coach J.D. Douglas has been relieved of his head coaching duties effective immediately. According to CHS athletic director Richard Skipper said the decision had been made to take “the basketball program in a different direction.” Douglas will remain as a classroom teacher at CHS.
