The 89th annual Coffee Pot game between Coffee County and Tullahoma was played in front of huge crowd with strong winds blowing and even snow flurries.
The game did not disappoint with a halftime score of 0-0 the crowd and those listening on the radio knew they were in for a classic ending.
In the 4th quarter with 10 minutes left the Wildcats drove 92 yards in nine plays with the touchdown coming on a 12-yard run by Quarterback Eli Grow.
With 7:43 left Coffee County’s Mitchel Simpson recovered a Tullahoma fumble and ran untouched 69 yards for a touchdown. With game tied the Cats put together a drive and scored again when Grow hit Riley Darden with a 37-yard touchdown pass with 3:29 remaining. The Raiders fumbled on its next possession and 5 plays later Tullahoma’s Chris Howse went 25 yards for the game’s final touchdown.
Final score Tullahoma 20 Coffee County 7.
The Cats have now won 58 times in this classic rivalry to 29 for the Raiders and there has been 2 ties.
Mitchel Simpson was named the Gateway Tire and Service Center player of the game.
Raider QB Alontae Taylor finished the year with over 1,400 yards, the most since Jake Nunley rushed for 2,000 in 2004.
Coffee County wrapped up its first season under Head Coach Ryan Sulkowski with a 2-8 record. Despite the record Raider fans were very supportive and excited about the product they saw on the field.
Tullahoma at 5-5 will travel to 10-0 Rhea County on Friday night for the 1st round of the TSSAA playoffs.

The Coffee County Middle School basketball teams advanced to the championship games of the Woodbury Border War Tournament with a pair of semifinal wins on Thursday night. The Lady Raiders raced out to a 7 point halftime lead on to be held scoreless in the 3rd quarter by Woodland and send Coffee County to the 4th quarter trailing by 2. Julia Duncan scored 6 of her team high 15 points to help lead the comeback. Alisha Jennings finished with 7 points while Ellie Graham and Abby Morgan each notched 4 points. Morgan’s two baskets, coupled with her three 2ndhalf steals, help lift the Lady Raiders to Saturday night’s championship game. The Lady Raiders will play DeKalb County for the tournament championship at 7:00 on Saturday night at the Woodbury Grammar School.
Facing a 4th quarter deficit against Central Magnet, the Red Raiders poured in 15 points in the final 6 minutes to get a second straight come from behind victory 42 to 38. Andrew Mahaffey poured in 14 pints for Coffee Middle while Weston Hargrove added 9 points. Nathaniel Horne added 8 points to improve the Raiders record to 2 and 0 on the year. The Raiders will play Westside for the tournament championship at 8:15 on Saturday night at the Woodbury Grammar School.

The 6th grade Raiders and Lady Raiders traveled to Sparta on Thursday night in a rematch from Monday night. In girl’s action, the Lady Raiders spanked the home standing Warriorettes 42 to 32. Keri Munn had a dominant performance as she poured in 24 points to lead the offensive attack. Bella Vinson added 12 points which included 2 three point plays in the 1st quarter. The Red Raiders saw their 4 game winning streak come to an end at the hand of White County. Trevor Horne and Jaxon Vaughn each had 8 points in the loss. The 6th grade cagers return home on Tuesday night with a 6 PM doubleheader as Harris Middle School will visit the CCMS gym.

The Westwood Rockets visited new conference member Fayetteville on Thursday night and came home with 2 wins. The Lady Rockets got off to a strong start as they held the Lady Tigers scoreless in the 1st quarter in route to a 31 to 18 win. Danielle Baker led the Lady Rockets in scoring with 11 points while Ashley Starks poured in 10 points. The win improved the Lady Rockets record to 3 and 2 on the year. The Rockets completed the sweep with a 28 to 25 come from behind victory over the Tigers. Chase Simpkins led the Rockets with 12 points, including 4 in the 4thquarter. Marcus Pendleton finished with 11 points as he hit 4 big free throws in the final frame to aid in the comeback win. Westwood will be on the road on Monday night as they travel to Chapel Hill to take on Forrest. The girls game will tip off at 6:00 PM.

This Saturday morning is the first ever Tackle Domestic Violence Flag Football tournament. Coffee County Sheriff’s Department and Tullahoma Police Department have committed to play along with other area teams. Games begin at 10:00 a.m. Admission is $1 per person, children five years and under get in free. Games will be played at Eagle Stadium, 401 Eagle Blvd., in Shelbyville. Help raise awareness in the fight against Domestic Violence. All proceeds will be donated to the Haven of Hope and information on the local Haven of Hope will be available.

The Motlow Lady Bucks will begin their 40^th season of competition Halloween night with a brand new coach and a change of attitude and outlook. After a decade of struggle, the bar has been raised and the ultimate goal has been declared – compete for championships.
Former Motlow player and men’s assistant coach Dominic Tharpe became the 11^th head coach in Lady Bucks’ basketball history when his hire was announced on June 20, and he will lead his new squad on to the Copperweld Arena floor when Snead State (AL) visits to open the season at 5:30 p.m. Friday night. Admission is free to all Motlow College home athletic events.
Headlining the sophomore class that will be counted on to lead the Lady Bucks are Franklin County alum Chelsea Holman, Huntland’s Alexis Smith, Shelbyville’s Bree Horner.
Newcomers to the Lady Bucks this season include Lauren Brown and Kelsey Munn from Manchester, both of which played their high school basketball at Coffee County, and Erin Layne from Tullahoma.

Both Coffee County Middle School teams opened the 2014-2015 season in Woodbury on Tuesday night as they opened play in the Woodbury Border War Preseason Tournament with victories. The Lady Raiders, held Westside to no more than 4 points in each quarter on the way to a 44 to 9 win. Eight Lady Raiders tallied points on the night as Coffee County was led in scoring by Jacey Vaughn who had 11 points while Lindsey Perry, Abby Morgan and Alisha Jennings each finished with 6 points. With the win, the Lady Raiders advance to Thursday night’s semifinals where they will take on Woodland. That game will tip off at 4:30 PM at Woodbury Grammar School.
The Red Raiders outscored DeKalb Middle 19 to 9 in the 2nd half to get a come from behind win in the 1st round of the Woodbury Border War Preseason Tournament. Trailing 18 to 10 at the half, the Red Raiders cranked up the defensive pressure in the 2nd half and hit 7 of their 8 field-goal attempts to earn the 29 to 27 win. Weston Hargrove led Coffee County on points with 13 points while Briggs Haithcock added 2 2nd half 3 Pointers to finish with 6 points. Nathaniel Horne added 4 points as the Raiders advance to Thursday’s semifinals where they will take on Central Magnet at 5:45 PM at the Woodbury Grammar School.

The 6th grade Lady Raiders made it a sweep for Coffee County Middle on Tuesday as they blasted South Franklin 42 to 14 in a single contest at Coffee County Middle School. The Lady Raiders defense held the visitors to 2 field goals in the first half as they raced out to a 27 to 8 halftime lead. Coffee County was led in scoring by the familiar “inside/outside” tandem of Bella Vinson and Keri Munn as the 2 combined for 33 of the 42 Lady Raider points. Vinson had 6 three pointers on the night as she finished with 22 points. Munn scored 11 points with 8 points coming in the paint and 3 free throws. With the win, Coffee County improved to 6 and 1 on the year. The Raiders and Lady Raiders travel to Sparta on Thursday night to take on White County. Tipoff for the girls game is 6:00 PM.

A cold shooting touch in the second and third quarters, combined with stifling defensive pressure from both Community teams; spelled doom for the Rockets and Lady Rockets at Joel Vinson Gym on Monday night. The Lady Rockets got out to a strong start as Ashley Starks, Karen Medina and Morgan Jones each notched buckets in the 1^st four minutes of the game before Community called a timeout with 2 minutes remaining in the 1^st quarter with the game tied at 6. From there, the Viqueens defense held Westwood to 6 points for the next 14 minutes of the game to take a 19 to 12 lead into the 4^th quarter. A basket by Danielle Baker with 3 minutes remaining cut the deficit to 23 to 20, but Community quelled the rally as they hit their free throws down the stretch to win by a final of 32 to 20. Jones finished the night with 10 points as Karen Medina added 4 points for Westwood.

In boy’s action, the Rockets roared out to a 10 to 4 lead after the first quarter before foul trouble and a resurgent Community defense took over the game.  The Vikings held the Rockets to 9 points over the next 15 minutes as they outscored Westwood 20 to 9 in those pivotal periods to take a 24 to 19 lead into the 4^th quarter.  The Rockets rallied in the 4^th quarter to cut the deficit to 2 with 96 seconds remaining on a basket from Shawn Anderson but could not get the equalizer down the stretch falling 32 to 26. Chase Simpkins led Westwood in scoring with 7 points while Marcus Pendleton added 6. Jake Hollandsworth added 5 points and Anderson tallied 4.
The Rockets and Lady Rockets will travel to Fayetteville on Thursday night. The girls game will tip at 6 PM at the Fayetteville Middle School.

Trevor Horne sank the front end of a one & one with 9 seconds remaining to lift the Coffee County Middle School Red Raiders to a 37 to 36 win over White County and give Coffee County a sweep of the visiting Warriors on Monday night.  The Raiders held off a furious 13 point 4th quarter rally from White County to win their 4th game in a row. Leading by six points heading into the final frame, Coffee County needed baskets from Jaxon Vaughn and Hayden Hullet and a 3 point play from Trenton Scrivnor to put the tie game in Horne’s hand at the end and the big man delivered for the Raiders. Scrivnor finished the night with 9 points while Vaughn added 8. Coffee County was led in scoring by Kyle Farless who finished with 11 points.

The Lady Raiders got back on the winning track with a 31 to 21 win over White County. Bella Vinson poured in 23 points and Keri Munn added 6 points as the dynamic duo outscored White County 14 to 1 in the 3rd period.  With the win, the Lady Raiders improved to 5 and 1 on the season. Coffee Middle will be back in action on Thursday with a rematch at White County. The girl’s game will tip off at 6 PM.

After a month of intense practice and a number of scrimmage games, including a pair at the acclaimed CBHoops JuCo Jam preseason event in Atlanta, the Motlow Bucks will open the 2014-15 basketball regular season when they host non-conference Snead State (AL) at Copperweld Arena on Friday, Oct. 31. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and admission is free.
With the opening of his second season as head coach in Lynchburg on the horizon, Matt Sligh has recruited an outstanding group of newcomers to join four returning sophomores who contributed significantly to last year’s success, including All-American point guard Dequon Miller. Expectations are high for a program that has won over 20 games in four of the previous seven seasons.

The Robert E Lee Elementary (REL) PTO is sponsoring the 5th annual Great Pumpkin 5K. This year’s race will be held on November 8, 2014 beginning at 8:00am at REL, 313 Layne street, Tullahoma. Runners can register Saturday morning, or go to the REL web site http://robertelee.tn.tcse.schoolinsites.com/  or http://www.tullahomatn.gov/get-fit/. Runners of all ages and experience level are welcome.
“It’s always very exciting to have any type of community 5k,” said principal, Dr. Woody Dillehay. “Robert E Lee has a tradition of excellence and this fundraiser helps to support the faculty and students.”
The course will start at the front of the school and wind through the neighbourhood and end back at the school in time for the Fall Festival Fundraiser. Tickets are available before Saturday at the school or at the door the day of the event.
“This is a great way to have fun and Get Fit!,” said Mayor Lane Curlee. “Our health is one of our greatest assets, and I want to encourage everyone to join in the fun.”
The community is invited to join the fun. After the fun run and walk, there will be carnival games, face painting, craft fair, auctions, balloons, prizes food and pony rides.
