J.P. Duncan and Wyatt Day combined for a complete game no-hitter on Saturday as the Red Raider baseball team won their first game of the season 10 to 2 over Stratford. The win was the first career win for head coach Jon Spears and broke a 3 game losing streak for the Red Raiders. Duncan, who got the start on the hill, gave up 2 unearned runs while striking out 6. Wyatt Day entered the game in the 5th inning and threw 3 perfect innings of relief. Offensively, the Red Raiders banged out 10 hits on the game. Peyton Booth led the way with 3 for 4 with 3 RBI for Coffee County. Duncan was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI while DeAndre Wakefield was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Noah Anderson was 2 for 2 on the day. Duncan, Booth and Day were named the Gateway Tire and Service Center co-players of the game. The Raiders will return to district play on Tuesday night as they play host to Lincoln County. The varsity game will follow the JV contest and will begin at 6:00 PM at Powers Field. The next Thunder Radio broadcast of Raider baseball will be on Wednesday night in Fayetteville as Coffee County visits Lincoln County. First pitch will be at 6:00 PM with the pregame show beginning at 5:50 PM.

CHS Baseball Drops Game to Huntland on Friday
The Huntland Hornets baseball team banged out 14 hits and took advantage of 4 Red Raider errors to defeat Coffee County 12 to 2 on Friday night at Powers Field. The Raiders struggled to find holes in the Hornets defense as they managed 6 hits, but left 8 runners stranded on the basepaths. Zach Wise was 1 for 3 on the night with a 2 RBI single. The Red Raiders will be back home on Saturday as they welcome Stratford to Powers Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM. Lucky Knott will bring you the broadcast beginning with the pregame show at 12:50 PM. The JV baseball team will host a doubleheader with Riverdale on Saturday evening beginning at 5:00 PM at Powers Field.
CHS Soccer Falls to Ooltewah
The CHS soccer team fell to Ooltewah on Friday night in a non-district contest by a final score of 4 to 1. The Owls got first half goals in the 5th, 15th and 31st minute to race out to a 3-0 lead. Coffee County found the back of the net in the 35th minute as Breyer Taylor drilled a penalty kick past the Ooltewah keeper to make it 3 to 1 at intermission. The Owls notched their 4th goal in the 66th minute. The Raiders travel to Gulf Shores, Alabama next weekend for a tournament there. The Raiders first game is at 10:30 AM against Madison County, Alabama. The JV soccer team will play host to Middle Tennessee Christian School on Monday night at the Raider Soccer Field. That match will kick off at 6:00 PM.
Coffee Middle Softball Gets Walk-Off Win Over Warren County

Down to their final out in the final inning, the Lady Raider softball team scored 5 runs to defeat Warren County 11 to 9 on Thursday night at CCMS. Haley Richardson hit the 2nd pitch of her at-bat over the centerfield fence for a walk-off home run to score Ashley Evans and Gracie Pippenger and complete the 2nd comeback of the night for Coffee County. Tied at 6 going into the last inning, Warren County plated 3 runs, including a home run of their own, to make the score 9 to 6 and erase the first Coffee County rally. The Lady Raiders loaded the bases with 2 outs in the 5th before Pippenger hit a 2 RBI single and set up Richardson’s heroics. Richardson, who came into the game to pitch in the 2nd inning got the win for the Lady Raiders and was 2 for 4 at the plate with a double to go with her home run. She finished with 5 RBI. Pippenger was 2 for 2 with 2 walks and 5 RBI and scored the tying run in the bottom of the 4th on a wild pitch. Jayden Scheller was 2 for 3 on the night for Coffee County as well. Coffee County, which trailed 6 to 0 after 2 innings, banged out 7 hits on the night and took advantage of 6 walks given up by Warren County’s pitchers. With the win, the Lady Raiders avenged a 5 to 0 loss in the opening game of the season to Warren County. The Lady Raiders improved to 4 and 1 on the season and 4 and 1 in conference play. The Lady Raiders are off for Spring Break and will not play again until April 6th when they play host to South Franklin.

Middle School JV Baseball – North Franklin 11, Coffee County 8
The Coffee County Middle School Red Raider Junior Varsity baseball team started strong against the Gators of North Franklin scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the first inning but could not hold on to take the win. North broke thru with 4 runs in the 4th inning and 5 more in the 5th inning to but the Raiders in a 9 to 3 hole. Coffee County scored runs in each of the last 4 innings but could not string together a big inning in the loss. Garrett Davis was 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored for Coffee County while Slade Owens had 2 singles in 2 plate appearances. The Red Raiders are scheduled to take on North in a rematch on Friday night at 6:00 PM in Winchester.

Raider Baseball Drops District Contest at Shelbyville
Two out errors plagued the Red Raider baseball on Wednesday night in Shelbyville as the Red Raiders fell by a final score of 10 to 0. The Eagles scored 5 runs in the first 2 innings after Coffee County had retired the first 2 batters of each inning. The Raiders were held to 2 hits on the night as Zach Wise had a double and J.P. Duncan hit a single. The Raiders committed 4 errors which led to 9 unearned runs. Kohl Young got the start and pitched well but got the tough luck loss for Coffee County. The Red Raiders will be back in action on Saturday as they return to Powers Field for a 2 PM game with Stratford. Thunder Radio will have that broadcast with Lucky Knott on the call beginning at 1:50 PM with the pregame show.
Both Basketball Coaches Resign At Grundy County
Both head coaches for Grundy County basketball resigned last week. Jackets’ coach Justin Bryant turned in his resignation followed by Lady Jackets’ coach Julie Davis.
Bryant and Davis began with their teams four years ago. Bryant’s overall record over four seasons was 21-85. Davis had a 55-67 overall record.
Athletic Director Steve Trussler is taking applications for both jobs on the mountain.
Coffee County Softball Rallies Past Shelbyville

Taking to the road for the first time this season, the Lady Raider softball team traveled to Shelbyville on Tuesday night to take on the Lady Eagles. With Brianna Jones fighting an illness, the Lady Raiders had to come from behind to get the 5 to 3 win. Shelbyville jumped out to a 3 to 0 lead before Coffee County battled back with 4 runs in the 4th inning and added an insurance run in the 5th. Jones, who went the distance, had 8 strikeouts on the night. Haley Hinshaw and Shelby Scrivnor led the hitting attack for Coffee County. Hindshaw rapped out 2 hits while Scrivnor drove in a pair of runs. With the win, the Raiders improved to 4 and 0 on the season and 3 and 0 in district play. The Lady Raiders are scheduled to travel to Columbia on Thursday night for a district matchup with the Lady Lions. 1st pitch will be at 6:00 PM at Columbia Central
Tuesday Prep Roundup
Continuing their string of tough non-district opponents, the Red Raider soccer team traveled to Murfreesboro on Tuesday night to take on Blackman. The Raiders dominated play in the first half building a 2 to 0 lead before a furious final 3 minute flurry by the Blaze tied the game at the half 2 to 2. In that melee, the Red Raiders were issued a red card which forced them to play a man down in the second half. Coffee County out shot Blackman in the second half but fell by a final score of 4 to 2. The Red Raiders will be back in action on Friday as they travel to Ooltewah for a 6 PM game against the Owls.
The Westwood Rockets soccer team opened conference play in a winning fashion on Tuesday night as they dropped Cascade by a final score of 3 to 1. The Rockets scored twice in the first half as they dominated the time of possession. Second half substitutions allowed Cascade to play it even in the second half. Juan Penaloza scored 2 goals for the Rockets and Andres Cavalie added a goal for Westwood. The win upped the Rockets record to 2 and 1 on the season and 1 and 0 in conference play. The Rockets travel to Fayetteville on Thursday night as they will take on Fayetteville Middle. That conference game is set to kick off at 5:00 PM.
Making their second road trip in 2 days, the Lady Rockets softball team made the trek to Huntland on Tuesday night. The Lady Rockets dropped an 11 to 1 decision. Keyleigh Alford was 2 for 2 on the night with a triple. Sarah West had a triple and scored the lone Rocket run. With the loss, the Lady Rockets dropped to 1 and 2 on the season. The Lady Rockets are back on the road Thursday as they travel to Unionville to take on Community. Weather permitting; the first pitch is scheduled for 5:30 PM.

The sunshine this week has been a blessing to the young and inexperienced Westwood Rockets baseball team, but the lack of work caused by a wet preseason showed again on Tuesday as Cascade dropped the Rockets by a score of 24 to 1. The Rockets, who do not have an 8th grader on the roster, saw a Cascade team that banged out 26 hits. Westwood got hits from Winston Alford, Jacob Garms, Nick Smith and Blake Perry. Smith was credited with the RBI driving in Garms and Perry completed an unassisted double play to kill a Cascade rally in the 2nd inning. The Rockets travel to Cascade on Friday for a 5:30 PM rematch.
For the 2nd consecutive day, the Coffee County Middle School Lady Raider softball team breezed past the Eagles of Harris Middle by a final score of 6 to 4. The Lady Raiders scored 5 runs in the first inning and Erin Ferrell got the win in the circle for Coffee County. Haley Richardson had a pair of doubles for Coffee County while Kayleigh Harris had a double and a single and Kyla Craig had 2 singles. The win pushed the Lady Raiders record to 3 and 1 on the season. The Lady Raiders will be back at home on Thursday night as they have a makeup game scheduled with Warren County. First pitch is set for 5:00 PM, weather permitting.
Errors and passed balls spelled doom for Coffee County Middle School baseball on Tuesday night as they dropped an 11 to 2 decision in Shelbyville to Harris. The Raider bats were stymied by by the Eagles pitching as Coffee County could only muster 3 hits on the game. Clayton Lowell, Tyler Surber and Scottie Duke got the hits for the Raiders. In JV action, the Raiders fell 6 to 3 in a game that was not decided until the last inning. With the loss, the Red Raiders fell to 1-1-1 on the season and 1 and 1 in conference play. The Red Raiders will take on North Franklin in Winchester on Monday. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 PM. The JV Raiders have a 2 game series with North Franklin scheduled for Thursday and Friday of this week. Thursday night’s game will be held at CCMS, with the Friday game at Winchester. Both games are set to begin at 6:00 PM and will be played, weather permitting.

The Coffee County Red Raider baseball team opened the 2015 season hosting District 8-AAA foe Shelbyville. After the first inning the Raiders led the Eagles 3-1. Shelbyville cut it to 3-2 with a run in the fourth. In the 6th the Eagles plated 5 runs to take a 7-3 advantage. That score held up as the Raiders dropped game one of the year.
Stanton Keele had 2 hits and an RBI for Coffee County and was named the Gateway Tire and Service Center player of the game. Trace Friedlein added a hit and an RBI. Friedlein pitched the first 4 innings and had 9 K’s.
The Raiders will travel to Shelbyville for a 4:30 varsity start. The JV game will follow the varsity game.
