9/19/12 — Daniel B. “Boone” Smith

Funeral services for Daniel B. “Boone” Smith, age 65 of Manchester  will be conducted at 11:30am, Wednesday, September 19 at the Manchester Funeral  Home Chapel with Scotty Sorrells officiating. 

Burial will follow in the Wesley Chapel  Cemetery. 

Visitation with the  family will be from 5pm until 9pm, Tuesday at Manchester Funeral Home. 

Mr. Smith passed away Sunday morning as  his home surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Smith was born in Lynchburg, Tennessee the son of the late Lem  and Linda B. Reese Smith. 

He  retired from Carrier in 2005.  Mr.  Smith was a Christian and attended the Wesley Chapel and Mt. Carmel  Churches.  Mr. Smith enjoyed auto  racing, rabbit hunting, collecting knives and he also made walking sticks for  the Boy Scouts.  His favorite thing  to do was simply working. 

In  addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was also preceded in death by 2 brothers,  Harold Smith and Paul Smith, and by in-laws, Lena & Rusty Clayborn, Billy  Clayborn.

His wife of 45 years, Mrs. Jo Ann Clayborn Smith of  Manchester, 2 sons- Joye (Amy) Smith of  Manchester and Troy Smith of Manchester; 1 daughter- Linda (Anthony) Baker of  Manchester; 1 sister- Dorothy Bay of Illinois; Brother in Law- Harold (Joyce) Clayborn,  Jr.; 2 grandchildren- Caleb and Cade Baker and a host of nieces and  nephews.

9/18/12 — Gratis Carlisle “Mutt” Meacham

Mrs. Gratis Carlisle “Mutt” Meacham, age  94 of Manchester, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at the  Manchester Health Care Center.
Mrs. Meacham was born in Boston, Tennessee in  Williamson County and was the third child of six children born to her parents,  Moses Thomas Carlisle and Lola Thompson Carlisle.
She was very mischievous as a  child and that is how she earned her nickname “Mutt”. She was very  athletic and participated in track and earned the record as highest jumper  in the county. She also enjoyed basketball and served as a basketball captain.  She worked for many years as a bookkeeper with a company in Nashville for  many years.
She married Donald N. Meacham in 1956 after he retired from the U.S.  Navy. Gratis and Donald owned and operated a family restaurant where she  specialized in great casseroles and desserts. Gratis and Donald attended the Red  Hill Church of Christ in Manchester for many years. Donald passed away in 1993. 
Mrs. Meacham was also preceded in death by her sister, Gertie Byrd; and  brothers, Garland Carlisle and Gilman Carlisle.
She is survived by her daughter,  Teri A. Meacham Phillips of Manchester, TN; grandchildren, Christopher Phillips  and Courtney Phillips both of Manchester, TN; brother German Carlisle (Sue) of  Goodletsville, TN; sister, Gwendolyn Lampley of Franklin, TN; and special  friend, Matilda Locke of Manchester, TN.
Visitation will be on Monday, September  17, 2012 from 5:00 p.m.  until  8:00 p.m.
The Funeral Service will be  conducted on Tuesday afternoon, September 18, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. from the Chapel  of Central Funeral Home.
Burial will follow at the Shady Grove Cemetery.

9/15/12 — Wayne Roark

Wayne Roark age 74, of Estill Springs, passed away September 11, 2012 at Southern Tennessee Medical Center.

Mr. Roark was a veteran in the United States Navy as a Radioman Second Class. He was a faithful member of Little Hurricane Baptist Church and was an avid ballgame and NASCAR watcher.

Mr. Roark is preceded in death by his parents, James and Clara Foster Roark; sister, Jean Roark Delzell.

He is survived by his sister, Ann (Carl) Crown over of Decherd; brother, Clarence “Bay” (Judy) Roark of Vancover, WA; brother-in-law, Glen Delzell of Nashville; with numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be conducted Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 1pm from the chapel of Watson-North Funeral Home.

Interment will follow in Cowan – Montgomery Cemetery with friends serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be Saturday, September 15, 2012 from 11 – 1pm at Watson-North Funeral Home.

9/15/12 — Haskell “Dewayne” Grogan

Mr. Haskell “Dewayne” Grogan, age 62, of Tullahoma, passed away Thursday morning at his residence.

A native of Cookeville, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Haskell, Jr. and Dorothy Holder Grogan.

He was a truck driver, a brave U.S. Army Veteran, having served in Viet Nam, and attended Vine Street Church of God.
He is survived by his loving wife; Mary Bewley Grogan, one son; Steven (Christy) Grogan of Alabama, one daughter; Jamie Saltzman of Tullahoma, four grandchildren; Sara and Kara Grogan, and Alexus and Sean Saltzman, and three sisters; Betty (Jimmy) Sawyer of Tullahoma, Barbara (Larry) Madsen of Tullahoma, and Diane (Roger) Wall of Brentwood.

Visitation with the family will be Saturday, from 1:00PM until 2:00PM at Vine Street Church of God.

Memorial Services will follow at 2:00PM at the church, with Bro. Eddie Blazer and R. B. Bewley officiating.

9/15/12 — SSG Kenin D. Weiner

SSG Kevin D. Weiner, 30, formerly of Franklin County, passed away September 11, 2012 after a motor vehicle accident in Louisiana.

SSG Weiner proudly served his country in the United States Army.  An avid LSU and Saints football fan, he loved and cherished his family and adored his three young sons, often spending as much time as possible with them.

SSG Weiner is preceded in death by his mother, Sally Carol Kimball.

Left to cherish his beautiful memories are his wife, Monica Weiner; three sons, Julian, Brayden, and Ethan Weiner; his father, Thurman Weiner; brother, Jonathan Weiner; mother and father-in-law, Robert and Kim Reed; three brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law and eight nieces and nephews.

Funeral services in Louisiana will be held Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 1:00 p.m., at Central Assembly of God Church in Haughton, LA with visitation time to commence at 11:00 a.m.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home.

9/14/12 — Evelyn “Lyn” Bass

Evelyn “Lyn” Eoff Bass, 62, passed away at her home on Sept. 10, 2012. Lyn was born in Nashville on June 7, 1950, and was a lifelong resident of Tullahoma. She was loved and cherished by her many family members and countless friends and was known as “Mommy Lyn” to all children who knew her. Preceded in death by her father, James Clair Eoff Jr., and daughter, Evelyn Ashley Bass, she is survived by her devoted husband of 41 years, Alexander Paul Bass III; her three daughters, Claire Bobo, Lyndsay Bass and Whitney Newton; two sons-in-law, Andy Bobo and Cameron Newton; seven grandchildren, Madelyn, Alex, Sam and McLayne Bobo, Peyton and Preston Bell and Hudson Newton; her mother, Evelyn Eoff; her brother, James Clair Eoff III; and sister-in-law, Ann Eoff. Lyn graduated in 1968 from Tullahoma High School where she was very active in student government and a varsity cheerleader for football and basketball all four years. She was a Senior Superlative “Best School Spirit,” Girls State delegate, cheerleader captain, THS Pep Club president, class secretary and on the Homecoming Court. She was also involved in the THS Choir, history club, annual staff, sports staff and the THS Entertainers. She attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, and was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority, a Sigma Alpha Epsilon Little Sister of Minerva, an ROTC sponsor and a varsity cheerleader for both football and basketball. She was also president of the Dental Auxiliary for the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry. Lyn was a devoted mother whose life revolved around her children and grandchildren. She was a regular room mother, Brownie and Girl Scout leader, basketball, softball and competitive cheerleading coach. Lyn’s whole family was active at First United Methodist Church, where she was the HALO Choir director, a member of United Methodist Women, Vacation Bible School teacher and Bible study leader. Throughout her lifetime, Lyn supported numerous Christian ministries in an effort to continue spreading God’s word around the world. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, at Kilgore Funeral Home, and a Celebration of Life will be held at First United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14. 9/13/12 — Cynthia Botts

Cynthia A. Botts, age 58, of Tracy City, TN passed away September 10, 2012, quietly at her home after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Weymoth, MA. She was the daughter of John D. Wentworth and Mary E. Bisnaw Wentworth. She is survived by her loving husband Craig Botts of Tracy City, TN; four loving daughters Jennifer M. Spada Winn of Winchester, TN, Tammy L. Slagle of Stevenson, AL, Christine M. Slagle of FL, and Nicole E. Slagle of FL; sisters Carol Anderson of FL, Judy Hobbs of CA; brother John Wentworth of FL; six loving grandchildren. She served as an RN for 38 years, and was employed by Emerald Hodgson Hospital in Sewanee, TN, Coequina Center in Daytona Beach, FL, and Jordan Hospital in Plymouth, MA. She will be greatly missed by all that loved her. A Memorial Service will be held in her memory 6:00 P.M. Thursday, September 13, 2012 at Christ Church in Monteagle. 9/12/12 — Bettie McCafferty

Memorial services for Mrs. Bettie Leigh McCafferty, age 85, will be conducted Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Coffee County Funeral Chapel with Rev. Neal Glass officiating. Inurnment will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 11, 2012 from 5:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home. After a stay at Horizon Health Care, Mrs. McCafferty passed away Saturday, September 8, 2012 at United Regional Medical Center.
She was born September 26, 1926 in Lawrence County, Tennessee the daughter of the late John B. Lumpkins and Mary Abagail Copeland Lumpkins. One of nine children raised in Lawrence County, TN she married Gene Sanford McCafferty on January 10, 1948. She was employed with Methodist Publishing House in Nashville, TN, prior to relocating to California, with her husband, Gene who was employed in the aerospace industry. They shared a love for flying into the late 1980’s. In earlier years, Bettie was employed as a cafeteria worker in several Manchester area schools to include College Street Elementary, Westwood Junior High and Manchester Coffee County Central High School.
Following this she was also employed with Carrier Corp. in Morrison, TN. Through the years, Bettie enjoyed sewing, reading, flower gardening, nature and wildlife. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Bettie also enjoyed traveling with her husband as well as the Wesley Wanderers of the Manchester First United Methodist Church of which she was a member since the 1950’s.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.
Survivors include three children, Michael McCafferty and wife, Dianne of Belvidere, TN; Doug McCafferty and wife, Jennifer of Evans, GA and Tom McCafferty and wife, Betsy of Gainesville, FL; two grandchildren, Derek McCafferty and wife, Carson of Sanford, NC and Allison Brown and husband, Joseph of Martinez, GA; and three great-grandchildren, Claire Brown, Kinley McCafferty and Landon Brown.
Honorary pallbearers will be Derek McCafferty, Van Baskin, Joe Boyer, Jeff Riddle, Clay Tidwell, and Hubert Lemons.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church – Wesley Wanderers, Manchester, TN.

Ruby Joyce Cobb Woosley

RUBY JOYCE COBB MCCLOUD WOOSLEY, age 72, of Manchester, Tenn. departed this life and into the arms of Jesus on “His Day”, Sunday, September 9, 2012.  Ms. Woosley was born in White Bluff, Tenn. on July 3, 1940 to the late Claude Cobb and Laura Krantz-Cobb-Tant.  Ms. Woosley was a waitress for many years in the Nashville area working in coffee shops making little pay and working long hours doing the best she could with what little she had.  She worked in business office supplies for a number of years and went on to work in a print shop for twenty-five years in the Huntsville, Ala. area.  She was past owner/operator of Engravers 2 in Decherd, Tenn. for many years.  She has worked for Wal-mart, MCCA and Goodwill in Tullahoma.  She lived a simple life and was always willing to help those in need because she understood what it was like to be in that position.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Woosley.  brothers; Bobby, Jack and Johnny Cobb and one sister, Andrea Olivia Tant.  She is survived by her children; Melissa Thompson, Athens, Ala., Dena Seals, of Morristown, Tenn.  sons; Eugene McCloud, Jr. also of Morristown, Tenn., Dennis McCloud of Vicksburg, Miss.  brothers; Claude Cobb, Jr., of Dorr, Michigan, Joe Cobb of Wartrace, Tenn., Larry Tant of Winchester, Tenn., David Tant, Jr., of  Parish, New York, sisters;  Betty Naylor of Manteca, Cal., Margaret Gresham of Brooklyn, Mich., Linda King of Winchester, Tenn., Nellie Faye Hamblin of Adrian, Mich.

It was Ms. Woosley’s wishes that she be cremated and no services held.

George W. Ridenbaugh, Jr.

George W. Ridenbaugh, Jr., age 63 of Manchester, Tennessee, passed away on September 7, 2012 at the Vanderbilt Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, George W. Ridenbaugh, Sr. and Dorothy V. Meyers Ridenbaugh. He is survived by his wife, Darla E. Ridenbaugh of Manchester; sons, Cory, Dru and Cory Ridenbaugh; brother, Kenneth Ridenbaugh; sister, Pamela Jones; and a host of other relatives and friends. No local services.
