Governor Bill Haslam and the state health commissioner are stressing the importance of Tennesseans receiving their influenza vaccinations this flu season. On Friday, September 19, Governor Haslam, and the commissioner will receive their seasonal flu vaccinations at the Shelby County Health Department in Memphis. Each year on average in the United States, an estimated 5-20 percent of the population can be infected with the flu, and more than 200,000 people may be hospitalized from complications of the illness. Serious Educational Problems For Teens Who Use Marijuana
A new study published in British health journal the Lancet Psychiatry has found that marijuana use is associated with serious educational attainment problems in teenagers. The study concluded that teens who smoke marijuana on a daily basis are 60% less likely to complete their high school education than those who never touch the stuff. According to the research, those same teens are also 60% less likely to complete their college education and are more than seven times (!) as likely to attempt suicide. Sobriety Checkpoint Saturday, Sept. 20th
The Manchester Police Department & Coffee County Sheriff Department will be conducting a Sobriety Checkpoint on Saturday, Sept. 20th, 2014 in selective locations on Hwy. 55 & Hwy. 41 in Manchester, TN. The general hours of the checkpoint will be between 8 P.M. and 1 A.M. (not to exceed 2 hours). This special enforcement is designed to make our roadways safer. Paving Starting Monday (September 15) In Tullahoma
The City of Tullahoma announces the first phase of road improvement projects. Starting today (Monday, September 15, 2014), the Rogers Group will begin paving certain local roads under the Federal Surface Transportation Program. Patriot Day Ceremony Held In Manchester
A packed house attended last week’s Patriot Day Ceremony held in Manchester’s City Hall due to the threat of rain. The event was held to not only remember those fallen on September 11th of 2001, but also to recognize the brave men and women who are devoted to protecting Coffee County each and every day. 12 first responders were chosen to receive a Patriot Day Award during the ceremony to honor them for their dedication and service. After 14 losses in a row the Raiders came from behind on the road Thursday night at Warren County to win 28-27 in overtime.
