The Coffee County football team had not won a game since the 9th game of the 2012 season until last night. After 14 losses in a row the Raiders came from behind on the road Thursday night at Warren County to win 28-27 in overtime.
The Raiders were down 21-13 with less than 2 minutes to go in the game when Freshman QB Alontae Taylor scrambled into the end-zone after a fumbled snap to cut the Pioneer lead to 21-19. Junior Mill Harner would get the ball on a 2-point conversion play and broke two tackles to score and tie the game at 21 each. Warren County was unable to score in the final couple of minutes, so the game headed to overtime.
Coffee County got the ball first in OT and only took two plays to score as Taylor scored his 3rd TD of the night. Cole Hawkins kicked his 3rd extra-point to give the Raiders a 28-21 lead.
QB Christian Wilkinson of Warren County threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to cut the lead to one. The Pioneer coaches decided to go for two and Mill Harner was able to stop Wilkinson’s run attempt just short of the goal-line to end the game and the losing streak at 14 games. Harner with 90 yards rushing and outstanding play on defense earned the Gateway Tire and Service Center player of the game.
Taylor rushed 29 times for 131 yards and scored 3 times and threw for another 60 yards. Cody Howes added 78 yards rushing and a TD.
