The Westwood soccer team got a forfeit win over Webb on Thursday which was to be their final regular season match of the year. The Lady Rockets will now have a break until September 23rd when they will open up play in the quarterfinals of the Duck River Valley Conference tournament. The game time and opponent will be decided at a later date. The DRVC Tournament will be held at Liberty School in Shelbyville.
The Coffee Middle School soccer team got a 7 to 0 win over South Franklin on Thursday in their final home match of the year. The 8th grade Lady Raiders were honored in a pregame ceremony and that momentum carried over into the first half. The Lady Raiders got 4 first half goals while the defense held South to one shot. Scoring for Coffee County was Morgan Henley, Sam Ellison and Abby Morgan, who scored 2 goals. Morgan, Allie Amado and Julia Duncan notched assists in the first half. In the 2nd half, Bailey Sherrill, Julia Duncan and Jenna Garretson all netted goals as Garretson and Duncan were credited with assists. The Lady Raiders close out the regular season on Monday as they travel to take on North Franklin in a 5 PM match in Winchester.
The Coffee County Central High School soccer team got a much deserved 5 to 1 win over Cascade on Thursday night. Alex Ellison, Caitlyn Moore, Izzy Huddleston and Eliza Masters all notched goals for the Lady Raiders. Ellison was also credited with an assist as she put 5 shots on frame for Coffee County. Coffee County got their 5th and final goal as the result of a Cascade own goal. The Lady Raiders will travel to Winchester this weekend for the Franklin County Tournament. The Lady Raiders return home on Tuesday as they welcome Lawrence County to the newly expanded soccer field behind the Raider Academy. That match is set to kick off at 6:00 PM and Thunder Radio will broadcast the game as part of our Hometown Tuesday series.
The Coffee County Central High School volleyball team swept Fayetteville on Thursday night in straight sets. The Lady Raiders were led in assists by Brittney Williams while Sydney Pearson led the Lady Raiders in aces and kills. With the win, the Lady Raiders improved to 11 and 5 on the season as they prepare to host the Lady Southern Slam this weekend. The tournament will feature matches at the high school and the Coffee County Middle School. Coffee County opens up pool play on Saturday morning at 9 AM as they will play White County at CHS. The Lady Raiders will also take on Grundy County, Eagleville and St. Andrews in pool play in matches starting at 11 AM, 2 PM and 4 PM respectively. Single elimination bracket play begins at 6:30 Saturday night with the championship set to get underway at 9:30 PM. Folks are urged to come out and see some great high school volleyball on Saturday and help support the CHS and CCMS volleyball teams.
The Westwood Rockets football dropped their 3rd straight heartbreaking game in a row on Thursday night in Unionville 30 to 20 to Community Middles School. The Rockets got touchdowns from Byron Sullivan and Marcus Pendleton but could not overcome a big 2nd half deficit. The Rockets will try to break the losing streak next Thursday in Shelbyville as they take on their old rival Liberty. Kickoff is set for 6:30 PM.
