Coffee County Cross Country Team Wraps Up Season
For the Lady Raiders, Makenzie Morgan finished at 24:16, Kayla McCormick ran a season’s best 27:44 and Claudia Bertuzzi finished in 28:30 cutting 1 minute off of her best time for the season. The Cross Country team is coached by David Muckle who resurrected a program that had been dormant since the 1980’s. Muckle had the following praise for his runners: “I am really proud of all of our runners for their hard work and consistent improvement all season”
Elementary Basketball League Begins 2014-15 Season
The Coffee County Elementary Basketball League opened play on Saturday with all 12 teams in action. In the girl’s contests: College Street edged North Coffee 17 to 16; Hillsboro dropped Deerfield 26 to 6; New Union stopped East Coffee 16 to 4 and Westwood clipped Hickerson 33 to 3
In boy’s action: College Street beat North Coffee 49 to 11; Deerfield outlasted Hillsboro 18 to 10; New Union overcame East Coffee 28 to 7; and Westwood grounded Hickerson 26 to 4.
All 6 schools will be back in action on Saturday, November 1st with the following schedule:
Hickerson vs. East Coffee-Girls-10:00; Boys-11:00
Westwood vs. New Union-Girls-12:00; Boys-1:00
Deerfield vs. North Coffee-Girls-2:00; Boys-3:00
Hillsboro vs. College Street-Girls-4:00; Boys-5:00
Eagles Fly Past Raiders
On Senior Night the Coffee County Red Raiders were hoping to pull off a huge upset over Shelbyville. The Golden Eagles led by the one-two punch of QB Mason Cunningham and RB Michael Eddings plus their impressive defense defeated the Raiders 48-12.
Cunningham threw 3 touchdown passes and Eddings rushed for two.
Raider QB Alontae Taylor, had another great night with 234 yards on 27 carries, he now has 1,330 yards on the season. Taylor scored once on the night on a 68-yard run. Cody Howes raced 66 yards for the lone Coffee County score in the first-half. Howes finished with 100 yards on 13 carries on the night.
OL/DL Devin Walden was named the Gateway Tire & Service Center player of the game.
The Raiders (2-7, 0-6 8-AAA) will wrap up the season Friday at Tullahoma in the battle of the 89th Coffee Pot game.
Aaron’s Sales and Lease Student of the Week 24 Oct 2014
The Aaron’s Sales and Lease Student of the week for 24 October 2014 is Emily Whitten. Emily is in fifth grade at College Street Elementary School in Manchester. She is the daughter of proud parents Krista and Clay. She was nominated for this award because she helpful, attentive and set the example for all other students. Emily is plays volleyball, basketball and softball. Her favorite subject is social studies because she enjoys learning about history. Her favorite things to do when not at school is the various sports she plays and reading a good book. Emily was presented with a plaque (courtesy of K&S Trophies of Tullahoma) and a set of tickets to an up-coming Nashville Predators game. Congratulations to Emily Whitten, the Aaron’s Sales and Lease Student of the Week.
Coffee Middle School 6th Grade Basketball Splits with North Franklin
The CCMS 6th grade Red Raider basketball team avenged an early season loss to North Franklin on Thursday night at the CCMS gym. The Red Raiders used a balanced scoring attack, and a tenacious defense to drop the Gators of North 32 to 27. Kyle Farless scored 11 points, Trenton Scrivnor tallied 10 points and Jaxon Vaughn finished with 9 points as the Raiders led from the opening possession of the contest. Leading 12 to 9 at the half, Coffee County saw North hit two 3 pointers in the last 2 minutes of the 3rd quarter to send it to the final frame tied at 22. In the 4th quarter, Scrivnor had 4 points as Vaughn, Farless and Hayden Hullett all added baskets to secure the win. With the win, Coffee Middle improved to 3 and 2 on the year.
In a physical girls game, the Lady Raiders trailed by as many as 8 points in the 1st quarter to the Lady Gators but mounted a rousing comeback culminating in a 29 to 29 tie on a 3 pointer from Bella Vinson as the 3rd quarter ended. In the 4th quarter, Coffee Middle got their first lead of the game with 2:08 remaining on a goal by Keri Munn to capture a 35 to 33 advantage. North got a 3 pointer one minute later and cranked up the defensive pressure in the final minute as they handed the Lady Raiders their first loss of the year by a final score of 36 to 35. Vinson scored 25 points for Coffee County and Munn added 8. Reagan Ellison came off the bench for 2 points. With the loss, the Lady Raiders record stands at 4 and 1 on the season. Both 6th grade teams will be back in action on Monday night as they play host to White County. Tip off for the girls game is 6 PM.
Coffee County Will Remain In 6A Football In 2015 & 2016
From a TSSAA release issued on Thursday morning, the Coffee County football team will play in Class 6A for the new classification period which begins in August, 2015. Class 6A features the 31 largest schools in enrollment, plus Maryville High School. Maryville, who was originally classified for Class 5A, but requested a move UP to Class 6A just ahead of Wednesday’s deadline. LaVergne, who was ranked 32nd, accepted Maryville’s vacated position in Class 5A. Coffee County was ranked 30th in average attendance and will likely compete in an 8 team region with the following mid-state teams: (listed in descending attendance numbers) Cookeville(2201 students), Oakland(1933), Blackman(1839), Warren County(1787), Smyrna(1774), Siegel(1758), Coffee County(1730), Riverdale(1724). Tullahoma has been classified to play in Class 4A

District 8-AAA Girl’s Soccer Teamed Named
Middle School 6th Graders Win Again
The Coffee County Middle School 6th grade basketball teams traveled to Harris on Tuesday night bringing home a pair of convincing wins. The Lady Raiders continue to pummel the opposition as they bested Harris 43 to 8. After 4 games, the Lady Raiders have scored an average of 41 points per game while giving up just 14. Bella Vinson scored 27 points for Coffee County and Keri Munn added 10 points. Coach Jamie Morgan rested most of her starters in the 2nd half, including the entire 4th quarter as 7 of the 11 Coffee Middle players had points in the win.
The Red Raiders evened their record at 2 and 2 as their defense held Harris to just 4 points in the first half in route to a 32 to 15 win. Jaxon Vaughn had 10 points to lead Coffee County while Kyle Farless and Trenton Scrivnor each notched 9 points.
The 6th grade cagers will host North Franklin on Thursday night beginning at 6:00 PM. They will follow that up with another home game on Friday night as they play host to South Franklin at the CCMS gym.
Powder Puff Football Coming To Carden-Jarrell Field
It is here! Powder Puff Football. That’s right girl’s football, Monday Oct. 27 at Carden-Jarrell football in Manchester. 6pm Freshmen girls vs Juniors then at 7pm it’s the Seniors vs Sophomores. On Tuesday October 28 the 3rd place game is played at 6pm and the championship at 7pm. Admission is only $2. This is a fundraiser for Coffee County Lady Raider Softball.
Prep Roundup For Monday
Coffee County JV Football defeated Lincoln County Monday night by a final of 14 to 6.
The 6th grade Lady Raider basketball team opened their first ever season in the new Coffee County Middle School gym with a convincing 50 to 16 win over Morrison on Monday night. The Lady Raider defense allowed Morrison only 4 field goals on the night. Leading the scoring for the Coffee County was Bella Vinson who had 17 1st quarter points and finished with 28 points total. Baylee Haithcock added 12 points for the Lady Raiders. The Red Raiders fell by a final score of 17 to 13. Trenton Scrivnor led Coffee County with 4 points while Tanner Kistler added a 3 point goal.
Westwood traveled to Murfreesboro to take on Middle Tennessee Christian on Monday night. The girls finished the game with a furious 15 point 4th quarter before falling 35 to 31. Morgan Jones led the Lady Rockets in scoring with 14 points, including 9 in the 4th quarter. Ashley Starks had 4 points in the fourth quarter to finish with 13 points. The boys fought hard but came up short in a 47 to 34 defeat. Marcus Pendleton had 13 points while Jake Hollandsworth and Augie Burch each added 7 points. The Rockets travel to Fayetteville on Thursday night. The girl’s game will begin at 6:00 PM.
