Lady Bucks Drop Two Games

Motlow Lady BucksThe Motlow Lady Bucks continued to show improvement over the weekend despite dropping a pair of Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA) contests on their annual road trip to west Tennessee.
The Lady Bucks (2-14, 1-8) went to Dyersburg on Friday and fell 68-59 to Dyersburg State, then traveled to Memphis on Saturday and came up short 80-75 to Southwest Tennessee. Both Motlow teams will continue conference play this weekend when they head to Gallatin to play Volunteer State. Tipoff for the women’s contest is 2 p.m.
Friday night in Dyersburg the Lady Bucks only trailed by a point, 33-32, at halftime but were not able to overcome the Lady Eagles’ lead.
Saturday afternoon in Memphis was similar in the first half as the Lady Bucks led the Lady Saluqis 32-30. Southwest Tennessee dominated the paint though, outrebounding Motlow 62-42. The game was marred by fouls, with the two teams combining to shoot 80 free throws. Each squad converted 27 of their attempts.

The basketball season’s longest road trip will conclude on Saturday when the Motlow Bucks and Lady Bucks travel to Gallatin for a pair of contests against Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA) rival Volunteer State. Tipoff for the women’s game is scheduled for 2 p.m., with the men to follow.
The Bucks (14-3, 7-2) are coming off a weekend trip to West Tennessee where they split a pair of conference games. On Friday, Motlow rode a career-high 24 points from sophomore Reggie Williams to a 114-97 win over Dyersburg State in Dyersburg.
The trip continued to Memphis on Saturday, where the No. 24-ranked Bucks ran into Southwest Tennessee, the nation’s eighth-ranked team. The Saluqis proved themselves to be worthy of their ranking with a 96-74 win over the Bucks.
Jaylen Barford led Motlow with 29 points, along with 14 rebounds, four assists and three steals.

A fundraiser for the family of Derek Harryman will be held this Saturday Jan. 24. A spaghetti supper will be held from 5:30pm til 9pm at the Coffee County Rescue Squad building on the Murfreesboro Hwy. Plates will be $10 each. A silent auction will be held with many great items donated from area businesses. Some of the items donated include Nashville Predator tickets and a hockey stick donated by Thunder Radio, a water filtration system from Sears of Tullahoma and so much more. All proceeds will go to help the Harryman family with funeral expenses. Derek was well-known for sports broadcasting and writing. Lady Raiders Take Down Stars

Monday night at the Joe Frank Patch Memorial Gymnasium the Coffee County Lady Raiders hosted Siegel Stars. The game was close throughout with Coffee County leading by no more than 3 points at the end of each of the first 3 quarters (10-7, 22-21 and 31-29). In the end the Lady Raiders squeezed out a 40-37 win over the Lady Stars.
Cameron Davis led Coffee County in scoring with 13 points and was named the Gateway Tire and Service Center player of the game. Sydney Pearson added 12.
The Coffee County ladies are now 12-10 overall.

The girls and boys Raider teams will travel to Fayetteville to take on Lincoln County on Friday night. The girls game will tip off at 6 PM and you can hear the action on Thunder Radio.

The finals match ups are set for the Coffee County Youth Basketball League after the semifinal games on Saturday. In the girls’ semifinals, Westwood topped North Coffee 19 to 7 in the first game of the day as Gracie Morris scored 7 points for the Lady Eagles. North Coffee was led by Kiya Ferrell who dropped in 5 points. The Lady Eagles will face Hillsboro in the finals next Saturday as the Lady Tigers held off New Union 24 to 10. Marley Perry was high scorer for Hillsboro as she had 12 points while Haley Horton scored 8 points for New Union.

In boys’ action, College Street remained unbeaten as they dumped Deerfield 41 to 15. Joseph Duncan had 11 points to lead the Cougars. Aiden Abellana scored 11 points to pace Deerfield. The other semifinal saw Westwood get by New Union as Jacob Sherrill had 9 points for the Eagles. New Union was led in scoring by Dayne Crosslin and Mason Haney who each had 6 points.

The consolation and finals games will be played on Saturday beginning at 9 AM at Central High School’s Joe Frank Patch Memorial Gym. Additionally, the annual cheer competition will take place preceding the championship games. The schedule is as follows:
9 AM – Girls Consolation – North Coffee vs. New Union
10AM – Boys Consolation – Deerfield vs. New Union
11AM – Cheerleading Championship
12 PM – Girls Championship – Westwood vs. Hillsboro
1 PM – Boys Championship – College Street vs. Westwood

The Lady Cats of Lawrence County proved why they were the best in team in District 8AAA on Friday night with a strong inside/outside game in a 68 to 48 win over the Lady Raiders of Coffee County.  Lawrence Co had 8 three pointers in the first half and when Coffee County made the halftime adjustments, Lawrence County got 15 points in the paint in the 2nd half.  Tyger Fenton of Coffee County had three 3 pointers herself to lead the Lady Raiders in scoring with 17 points to earn the Gateway Tire and Service Center player of the game award.  The loss dropped Coffee County to 11 and 10 overall and 2 and 5 in district play.  The Lady Raiders will take on Siegel on Monday evening at 5 PM.  Thunder Radio will carry that broadcast with Lucky Knott on the call.

In boys action, Lawrence County broke open a tight first quarter as they went on a 11 – 0 run grab an 18 to 12 lead after 1 period of play.  Coffee County could not keep pace with the depth and size of the Wildcats fallign by a final score of 64 to 31.  Addison Carter led the Raiders in scoring with 12 points while Austin Baugh notched 6 points to earn the Gateway Tire and Service Center player of the game honor.  The loss dropped Coffee County to 4 and 18 overall and 0 & 7 in district play.  The Red Raiders are off until Friday night when they travel to Fayetteville to take on Lincoln County.  The girls game will tip off at 6 PM and you can hear the action on Thunder Radio.

Holding Tullahoma West to zero points for nearly 2 full quarters broke open a tight game for the Lady Raiders of Coffee County Middle School leading them to a 42-15 win. The Lady Bobcats drained a 3 point shot with 1:33 to play in the first quarter to tie the game at 9. From that point forward, the Lady Raiders allowed only 1 field goal the rest of the game. Lindsey Perry and Abby Morgan led Coffee Middle in scoring with 10 points each. Bella Vinson added 7 points including a big 3 pointer at the end of the 1st quarter.

The Red Raiders saw a 9 to 9 halftime tie evaporate in the second half as they fell by a final score of 34 to 23. The Red Raiders could not capitalize on free throws while West made the most of several offensive rebounds to get second chance points. Weston Hargrove led Coffee County in scoring with 11 points while Harley Hindshaw and Andrew Mahaffey each finished with 4.  Coffee Middle closes out their regular season schedule on Thursday night as they play host to Harris.  Girls action will tip off at 6 PM on 8th Grade Night at the Coffee County Middle School Gym.

is Brandon Perry. Brandon is an eighth grader at West Middle School

in Tullahoma. He is the son of proud parents Carolee and Darren.

He was nominated for this award because he is helpful to his teachers

and classmates and he is also a great student. Brandon plays football

and is a 2nd degree black belt in karate. Brandon’s favorite subject is math

because he says it’s fun and he’s good at it. He plans to be an engineer or

seek out a career in math or science. Brandon was presented with a plaque

(courtesy of K&S Trophies of Tullahoma) and a set of tickets to an

up-coming Nashville Predators game. Congratulations to Brandon Perry,

Westwood Lady Rockets Season Comes to an End on Wednesday Afternoon

Featuring a lineup that started at least three 7 graders all season long, the Lady Rockets fought and scrapped their way to a 9 & 9 regular season record and a 5th place finish in the Duck River Valley Conference.  Facing Huntland for the 2nd time in a week, Westwood fell by a final score of 34 to 24 on Wednesday afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the DRVC tournament.  The Lady Rockets cut an 8 point halftime deficit to 2 as they began the 4th quarter, but could only muster two 4th quarter points in the loss.  Ashley Starks led the Lady Rockets in scoring with 9 points, while Morgan Jones added 6.  Haley Miller got the lone goal for Westwood in the 4th quarter and finished with 4 points.  The loss ended the season for the Lady Rockets who finished with a record of 9 and 10.
