Local Swimmers Break Records

swimmersThe Coffee County High School swim team had a great outing this past Friday at the Middle Tennessee Regional Swim Meet.
Daniel Larsen set new school and personal best times in the 100 yard backstroke finishing 11th overall; the highest finish of any CHS swimmer in the school history and in the 100 yard butterfly finishing 17th overall.
Kayce Scott, Lili Harris, Emily Warner, Emma Allen and Hayley Franklin finished with personal best in their events as well as setting new school records in the 200 and 400 yard relay.
Daniel Larsen moves on to compete in the High School State Championships in Knoxville Feb. 13-14 in the 100 Yard Backstroke and the 100 Yard Butterfly. This is Daniel’s record breaking third straight trip to the State Finals.

Also at the Middle Tennessee Middle School Swim Regionals, Jack Beachboard set new personal and school records in the 500 yard Freestyle coming in 3rd overall and in the 100 yard breaststroke coming in 6th overall.
Anna O’Connor set new personal and school records in the 500 yard Freestyle coming in 11th and in the butterfly coming in 13th overall.
Kaylee Williams set new personal and school records in the 100 yard breaststroke coming in 11th overall and a new personal best time in the 500 yard Freestyle coming in 13th.

CCMS Lady Raiders Win CTC Conference Tournament Championship

In a game where neither team had a lead bigger than 4 points, the Coffee County Middle School Lady Raiders forced a South Franklin Lady Trojan turnover as time expired to claim a 25 to 24 win on Saturday night in the Central Tennessee Conference tournament finals.  The two teams, who split their 2 regular season meetings, traded the lead back and forth for 3 quarters before the Lady Raiders took a 23 to 19 lead with 3:55 left in the game.  After an Abby Morgan free throw with 43 seconds to go, the Lady Raiders forced 2 Lady Trajan turnovers in the last 15 seconds to hold on for the win.  Julia Duncan led Coffee County in scoring with 7 points while Alisha Jennings, Abby Morgan and Jacey Vaughn each netted 6 points.  With the win, Coffee County finished the season with a record 19 to 1 and avenged their only loss of the season to South.  After the game, Jennings, Duncan and Morgan were named to the CTC All-Conference Team.  An encore presentation of the game will be broadcast on Monday night at 6 PM on Thunder Radio.  Download Thunder Radio’s broadcast

Motlow Basketball Weekend Results

Lauren Brown2On Friday night the Motlow Lady Bucks fell to Cleveland St. 53-35. Lauren Brown, Sabrina Jackson and Chelsea Holman led Motlow in scoring w/ 8 pts each.
The Bucks defeated Cleveland St. 87-79. Dequon Miller led Motlow in scoring with 26 pts. Jaylen Barford added 25. Also in double digit scoring, Clint Nwosuh and D’Andre Downey finished with 12 pts. A piece. Greg Mason finished with 10 in tonight’s win.

On Saturday the Lady Bucks had an offensive explosion, scoring 56 points in the 2nd half on their way to a 90-74 upset win over Chattanooga St.
Former Coffee County Lady Raiders Lauren Brown led Motlow with 24 points. Winchester’s Chelsea Holman added 15.
The Lady Bucks travel to Roane St on Friday.
In the men’s game the Bucks had 3 players score more than 20 points as they moved to 17-3/10-2 with a 103-90 win over the Tigers.
Jaylen Barford led Motlow with 28 followed by D’Andre Downey’s 25 and Clint Nwosuh’s 21.
The Bucks will host the Bryan JV Monday at 7:30pm.

CCMS Red Raiders Fall in Tournament Semifinals

The Coffee County Middle School Red Raiders gave the top seeded Warriors of White County a 4 quarter fight before falling 44 to 26 in the CTC Tournament semifinals on Fright night at Coffee County Middle School. Tied after 1 quarter at 7 and trailing 6 at the half had Coffee County in position to stun the regular season champions. The 4th quarter saw the Warriors depth blow open a tight game over the exhausted Red Raiders. Weston Hargrove led Coffee County in scoring with 13 points while Andrew Mahaffey added 9 points. Following the tournament, Hargrove and Mahaffey were named to the CTC all-conference team.

CHS Drops Pair to Shelbyville on Friday Night

Playing inspired basketball for Friday night was not enough for the Red Raiders and Lady Raiders to score a pair of upsets over Shelbyville on Friday night at the Joe Frank Patch Memorial Gym.  The Lady Raiders, who led for most of the 1st quarter, trailed the Eaglettes by 4 points a minute into the 3rd quarter before falling by a final score of 56 to 36.  Sara Brown hit 6 4th quarter freethrows to lead Coffee County in scoring with 12 points to earn the Gateway Tire and Service Center Player of the Game honors.  Tyger Fenton and Cameron Davis each netted 6 points for the Lady Raiders as Coffee County dropped to 12 and 13 on the season and 2 and 8 in District 8AAA play.

The Red Raiders stretched a 4 point halftime lead to 9 points with 5 minutes left in the 3rd period before Shelbyville’s depth took effect.  The Eagles outscored Coffee County 36 to 17 down the stretch to win by a final score of 58 to 48.  Peyton Talley earned the Gateway Tire and Service Center Player of the Game honors as he finished with 18 points.  Wyatt Day had 10 points while Addison Carter and J.P. Duncan each netted 6 points.  Download Thunder Radio’s broadcast The Raiders and Lady Raiders travel to Columbia on Tuesday night to take on the Lions.  The girls game will tip off at 6:00 PM.

Between games, the 2015 Winterfest court was presented and the King and Queen were announced.  Seniors Caleb King and Aubrey Southerland were crowned King and Queen as selected by a vote of the CHS student body.

30 January 2015 is Ava Weidenbacher. Ava is in fifth

grade at Hillsboro Elementary School in Coffee County.

She is the daughter of proud parents Amanda and Pat.

She was nominated for this award because she is and

exemplary student and is always helpful to her fellow

classmates and her teachers. Ava’s favorite subject is

language arts because she uses those skills every day,

it’s fun and she like to learn new things. She plans to

be a doctor when she gets older because she enjoys

helping people. Ava was presented with a plaque

(courtesy of K&S Trophies of Tullahoma) and a set of

tickets to an up-coming Nashville Predators game.

Cold free throw shooting by the Lady Raiders of Coffee Middle in the 4th quarter on Thursday night forced Thursday night’s CTC semifinal game to overtime, before Coffee County put away   Warren County by a final of 41 to 38.  A loud and supportive CCMS student section helped the Lady Raiders erase a 5 point 4th quarter deficit as Bella Vinson drilled a 3 pointer from the right wing with 2:29 left in the game to tie it at 29.  Coffee County, who was 3 for 10 at the free throw line in the 4th quarter, could only manage a 3 point lead down the stretch which Warren County erased on a 3 pointer as time expired to send it to the extra period.  All the overtime scoring was done at the free throw line as each team remained aggressive.  The Lady Raiders made 5 of their last 8 free throws to grab the win and advance to Saturday’s finals with the 2 point win.  Abby Morgan, who scored 6 points in the 4th quarter, nailed 2 huge free throws with 10 seconds remaining in overtime to seal the win.  Morgan led Coffee County in scoring with 13 points.  Lindsey Perry ended the night with 7 points and Jacey Vaughn added 6 points.  With the win, Coffee County will face South Franklin on Saturday night at 5 PM in the CTC tournament finals.  These two teams, who split during the regular season, tied for the regular season conference title.  The Coffee Middle Red Raiders will take on White County on Friday night at 5 in the boys semifinal.  Coffee County Middle School is hosting the CTC Tournament.

Entering the 4th quarter of their quarterfinal CTC conference tournament game trailing by 5 points, the Red Raiders of Coffee County Middle School doubled their 3rd quarter offensive output to get a thrilling 31 to 29 comeback win over North Franklin on Tuesday night.  Facing elimination, 8th graders Andrew Mahaffey and Weston Hargrove combined for eleven 4th quarter points to extend the Red Raider season to Friday’s semifinals.  Mahaffey, who scored seven 4th quarter points, finished the night with 18 points.  Hargrove, who finished with 8 points, had 4 points in the 4th quarter comeback.  With the win, Coffee Middle advances to Friday’s semifinals as they take on White County.  That game will tip off at 5:00 PM at the Coffee County Middle School gym.

High school basketball action Tuesday night had Coffee County traveling to Franklin County for District 8-AAA games.
In lady’s play Coffee County took a slim 22-19 lead into the dressing room at halftime after leading by as many as 13. They would hold on through most of the 3rd quarter until the Rebeletts hit a shot with 30 seconds left to take the advantage. In the 4th Franklin County pulled away for a 53-40 win. The downfall for Coffee County was turnovers as they committed 28.
The loss drops the Lady Raiders to 12-12 overall and 2-7 in the district.
Cam Davis was named the Gateway Tire and Service Center player of the game as she scored 15 points.
As the night continued the Coffee County and Franklin County boys had a tight game in the first half with the Rebels grabbing the lead at the break, 25-24. Franklin County would dominate the 2nd half and pick up the district win, 63-47. Coffee County falls to 4-20 overall and 0-9 in district play.
Addison Carter had 17 points for the Raiders and earned the player of the game.

The Motlow Lady Bucks will lean heavily on a group of talented freshmen and a handful of returning sophomores when they open the 2015 softball season on Tuesday, Feb. 3, against Calhoun Community College at Lady Bucks Field on the Motlow College Moore County campus. The first pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Head Coach Tori Raby-Gentry begins her fourth season at the helm of the Lady Bucks searching for her first winning season at Motlow. Raby-Gentry, a former player and assistant coach for the Lady Bucks, returned to lead the program in 2011 and has posted a 57-88 mark in three seasons.
The Lady Bucks ended the 2014 season with a 20-34 overall record and a 14-22 TCCAA mark.
