Paving Project Starts This Week In Tullahoma
The City of Tullahoma is pleased to announce the first phase of road improvement projects. Starting the week of Monday, August 4, 2014, the Rogers Group will begin paving certain local roads under the Federal Surface Transportation Program.
The roads that will be resurfaced include:
• Washington Street (from East Lincoln to Ovoca Road)
• Veterans Boulevard
• Marbury Road (from Veterans Drive to the 600 Block of Marbury Road)
• East Lincoln Street (from Washington to Cobb Road
• West Lincoln Street (from Cedar Lane to the bridge over Blue Creek)
“We ask the community to be patient with the contractor’s crews while they are working,” said Director of Public Works, Wayne Limbaugh. “The contract allows the Rogers Group seventy five days.”
Signs will be posted during this construction, and temporary lane closures may be required. Expect delays and seek alternative routes.
Motorists should be aware of the reduced lanes and watch out for workers in the construction zone and exercise caution.
Motorists should always obey reduced speed limits in work zones, regardless of any lane closure activity.
Questions concerning these paving projects should be directed to the Wayne Limbaugh at Public Works at 931-454-1768.

Tax Free Weekend This Weekend
The State of Tennessee’s Annual Sales Tax Holiday is held every year on the first Friday in August and ends the following Sunday night. This year’s tax-free holiday weekend began at 12:01 a.m on Friday and ends Sunday at 11:59 p.m. During this time, Tennesseans can enjoy tax-free purchases on certain clothing, school and art supplies and computers. According to Florence Hull of Clayton Family Shoe Store in Tullahoma, this weekend is one of the busiest week-ends of the year. Hull has increased her staff for the week-end and actually got in the “no tax” spirit all week long with a remodeling and back to school sale where they pay the tax for you. Clayton’s, like many businesses, will extend their business hours staying open until 5:30 PM on Saturday night. Clayton’s Family Shoe Store is located at 108 West Lincoln Street in downtown Tullahoma. The first Sales Tax Holiday was in 2006, saving Tennesseans about $15 million that year. Since then, Tennesseans have enjoyed an average of $8 to $10 million in tax savings each holiday. Remember to get out and save as much as 10% and also support your local businesses. For a list of items that are exempt during this week-end, visit: http://www.tn.gov/revenue/salestaxholiday/One%20Pager%20Overview.pdf
A Major Pot Find is Burned off in Grundy County

Grundy County deputies burn a large crop of marijuana plants seized on Wednesday.

Grundy County Sheriff’s office personnel spent a large part of Thursday sending thousands of marijuana plants “up in smoke.” The plants were part of a late Wednesday bust of a major pot growing operation off Taylor Road in Gruetli-Laager. The plants were destroyed at the sheriff’s office parking lot as the smoke from the fire forced the closure of a nearby street. Estimates of the street value of the marijuana plants appear to be several millions of dollars and may be among the largest pot bust in the state of Tennessee.
