The State of Tennessee’s Annual Sales Tax Holiday is held every year on the first Friday in August and ends the following Sunday night. This year’s tax-free holiday weekend began at 12:01 a.m on Friday and ends Sunday at 11:59 p.m. During this time, Tennesseans can enjoy tax-free purchases on certain clothing, school and art supplies and computers. According to Florence Hull of Clayton Family Shoe Store in Tullahoma, this weekend is one of the busiest week-ends of the year. Hull has increased her staff for the week-end and actually got in the “no tax” spirit all week long with a remodeling and back to school sale where they pay the tax for you. Clayton’s, like many businesses, will extend their business hours staying open until 5:30 PM on Saturday night. Clayton’s Family Shoe Store is located at 108 West Lincoln Street in downtown Tullahoma. The first Sales Tax Holiday was in 2006, saving Tennesseans about $15 million that year. Since then, Tennesseans have enjoyed an average of $8 to $10 million in tax savings each holiday. Remember to get out and save as much as 10% and also support your local businesses.
