Sounds Split Doubleheader With Sky Sox
The Nashville Sounds and Colorado Springs Sky Sox split a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at Security Service Field.
The Sounds fell in game one of the doubleheader, 5-4, when Orlando Arcia belted a walk-off three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Nashville returned the favor in game two with an 8-1 win. A six-run fourth inning and complete game effort from Dillon Overton highlighted the win.
The Sounds jumped out to an early lead in game one of the doubleheader scoring three runs in the first two innings. Max Muncy’s sacrifice fly in the first started the scoring. They added a pair in the bottom of the second when Joey Wendle singled to right, scoring Matt Olson. Bruce Maxwell plated the third run with a fielder’s choice.
Sounds starter Jesse Hahn came into the doubleheader without allowing any runs in his first two starts. The Sky Sox halted the scoreless streak at 14 1/3 innings when Arcia singled to center to score Eric Young Jr. Hahn, who was scheduled to make a short start, was relieved by Daniel Coulombe two batters later.
The Sky Sox added another run in the bottom of the fourth when Young Jr. grounded into a force out, scoring Garin Cecchini to make it 3-2.
Nashville doubled the lead to 4-2 in the sixth when Rangel Ravelo lifted a sacrifice fly to left to score Jake Smolinski.
Angel Castro found trouble immediately in the bottom of the seventh. Young Jr. reached on an infield single and quickly moved to third on Keon Broxton’s double. That brought up Arcia who ended it with the walk-off homer.
Game two of Wednesday’s doubleheader was all Nashville as the Sounds put up six runs in the fourth inning and Overton fired the first complete game in his young career.
Colorado Springs scored when Ben Guez doubled home Garin Cecchini in the bottom of the second.
The Sounds responded with six runs in the top of the fourth inning – a season-high for a single inning. Muncy launched a two-run home run to right center to put the Sounds on top, 2-1. Renato Nunez then singled to left, scoring Andrew Lambo to make it 3-1. Later in the inning, Matt McBride tripled home Nunez to increase Nashville’s lead to 4-1. Wendle blasted the second home run of the inning – another two-run shot to make it a 6-1 game.
The offensive onslaught didn’t stop there as Chad Pinder launched the Sounds’ third home run of the game to start the fifth. Muncy added another run-scoring hit in the sixth with a double – his fourth RBI of the game to close the scoring at 8-1.
Overton finished what he started when he got Guez to fly out to right to end it. The left-hander limited Colorado Springs to one run on five hits in the seven frames. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out five in his first win of the season.
On Thursday, the Sounds will send right-hander Zach Neal (1-1, 0.90) to the mound and the Sky Sox counter with right-hander Jorge Lopez (0-0, 6.48) in game three of the four-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:35 p.m.

TBI Releases New Crime Report
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is reporting serious crime was down slightly in 2015 but homicide rates were up.
The TBI compiles data from all state law enforcement agencies plus colleges and universities to create its annual report. The 2015 report was released Monday. It found that serious crimes overall in Tennessee were down by about 2 percent. Homicides, though, were up by more than 9 percent. There were 406 reported murders in 2015. Another 16 homicides are listed as negligent manslaughter. Forcible rape reports also increased. They were up by about 2 percent.
Several agencies reported some incomplete data, and four had major data problems that caused TBI to list them as decertified from the reporting program, a status that could affect their ability to get state grants.
The Coffee County Sheriff’s Department reported were 541, with 522 adults taken into custody along with 19 juveniles. In Manchester a total of 991 arrests were made, with 918 being adults and 73 juveniles. Tullahoma Police reported 881 arrests, 802 adults and 79 juveniles.

It was not easy, in fact it looked nearly impossible at one point; but the Coffee County Lady Raiders overcame a 6 run deficit to beat Franklin County 8 to 7 on Senior Night at Terry Floyd Field on Tuesday. Five hits, and a pair of Coffee County errors, powered Franklin County to a 6 run 3rd inning which took the air out of the Lady Raider fateful at Terry Floyd Field.
Not to be pushed around, the Lady Raiders rallied to score 5 runs in the bottom of the 3rd and 3 more runs in the 4th inning to give Kaylee Skipper a 2 run cushion in the 7th. The drama was far from over as Franklin County had a lead-off double and scored on an error make it a 1 run game. Skipper settled down and got the last 3 outs to preserve the Lady Raiders win.
Ashlynn Morton was 4 for 4 at the plate with 4 singles to lead the 12 hit attack of Coffee County. For her efforts, Morton was named the Thunder Radio Player of the game. Katie Rutledge was 2 for 4 with a triple and 2 RBI and senior Paige Baker was 2 for 2 with a walk. The win improves Coffee County’s record to 9 and 1 in district play.
The Lady Raiders are back in action on Friday when they open play in the Lincoln County Border Battle. Coffee County will take on Forrest at 5:30 PM and Clarksville Northeast at 8:30 PM. Both games will be held at Don Davidson Park in Fayetteville.

CHS Soccer Held Scoreless at Shelbyville
The Red Raider soccer team had several scoring opportunities in the 2nd half, but could not notch a goal as they fell 1 to 0 to Shelbyville on Tuesday night in Shelbyville. The battle between the last 2 unbeaten teams in the district lived up to the anticipation as a Golden Eagle goal in the 15th minute gave Shelbyville all the offense they would need on the night.
Coffee County’s district record falls to 3 and 1 on the year with their final 2 district contests on tap this weekend. On Friday, the Raiders travel to Lawrenceburg for a 6 PM match with Lawrence County. The Raiders return home on Saturday to take on Lincoln County in an 11 AM game at the Raider Soccer Field.
