It was not easy, in fact it looked nearly impossible at one point; but the Coffee County Lady Raiders overcame a 6 run deficit to beat Franklin County 8 to 7 on Senior Night at Terry Floyd Field on Tuesday. Five hits, and a pair of Coffee County errors, powered Franklin County to a 6 run 3rd inning which took the air out of the Lady Raider fateful at Terry Floyd Field.
Not to be pushed around, the Lady Raiders rallied to score 5 runs in the bottom of the 3rd and 3 more runs in the 4th inning to give Kaylee Skipper a 2 run cushion in the 7th. The drama was far from over as Franklin County had a lead-off double and scored on an error make it a 1 run game. Skipper settled down and got the last 3 outs to preserve the Lady Raiders win.
Ashlynn Morton was 4 for 4 at the plate with 4 singles to lead the 12 hit attack of Coffee County. For her efforts, Morton was named the Thunder Radio Player of the game. Katie Rutledge was 2 for 4 with a triple and 2 RBI and senior Paige Baker was 2 for 2 with a walk. The win improves Coffee County’s record to 9 and 1 in district play.
The Lady Raiders are back in action on Friday when they open play in the Lincoln County Border Battle. Coffee County will take on Forrest at 5:30 PM and Clarksville Northeast at 8:30 PM. Both games will be held at Don Davidson Park in Fayetteville.
