The Lady Rockets soccer team traveled to Sewanee on Thursday in their second match of the year taking on St. Andrew’s-Sewanee. Lady Rocket newcomer Savannah Smith got Westwood on the scoreboard with a first half goal that gave the Lady Rockets a 1 to 0 halftime lead. The Lady Lions of SAS tied the game in the 2nd half to earn the 1 to 1 draw. Westwood will return to the pitch on Tuesday at 5:30 as they will take on conference foe Liberty. That match will be held at Dyer-Bouldin Field.
The Coffee County Central High School soccer team hosted Riverdale on Thursday night at Carden-Jarrell Field. The Warriors from Murfreesboro raced out to a 3 to 0 lead at the half as they controlled the action in the midfield. The Lady Raiders made some adjustments at the half that gave them a few scoring opportunities, but Coffee County could never find the back of the net. Coffee County got their best scoring chance in the final 2 minutes, but a shot from junior Maclay Brandon clanged off the crossbar sealing the 5 to 0 loss. The Lady Raiders will travel to Cookeville on Tuesday night for a 7 PM match. The JV will take on the Lady Cavaliers beginning at 5.
