The Westwood Rockets improved to 3 and 0 on the year with a 22 to 0 shutout of Middle Tennessee Christian on Thursday night at Dyer-Bouldin Field. The Rockets opened the scoring in the 1st quarter on a 57 yard TD run by Byron Sullivan on a reverse. Jacob Floyd tacked on the 2 point conversion to make it 8 to 0 after 1 quarter. Marcus Pendleton scored on a long run from the QB position in the 2nd quarter and then added a 41 yard punt return TD and 2 point conversion to push the lead to 22 to 0 late in the 2nd quarter. The visiting Cougars tried to cut into the lead before the half, but an interception by Sullivan snuffed out the threat. Westwood was able to preserve the shutout in the second half as Coach Chad Dyer emptied his bench en route to the team’s 12th straight win. The Rockets will face their toughest test of the young season next Thursday as they travel to Chapel Hill to take on Forrest. Game time is 6:30 PM.
