Westwood Players Receive Honors
Two of the Westwood Rockets boys basketball team members earned high honors from the DRVC coaches. 7th grader Carlos Medina was named to the DRVC all tournament team for his performance in the 2012 DRVC tourney. 8th Grader Stephen Sullivan was named to the DRVC all conference team for his strong play through the entire 2012 season. TSSAA Forced to Open Books
A Davidson County chancery court judge has ruled that the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association is subject to the Tennessee Open Records Act in a lawsuit filed by The City Paper. Chancellor Claudia Bonnyman ruled in favor of the newspaper in a summary judgment delivered in oral remarks on Friday and agreed that the association was the functional equivalent of a governmental agency. The Nashville newspaper filed a lawsuit after the athletic association did not provide records pertaining to Montgomery Bell Academy and records pertaining to violations of financial aid rules. The Motlow Bucks got the weekend started off right with a win over Walters St. 74-53 on Friday night. In ladies action the 7th nationally ranked Lady Senators defeated the Lady Bucks fell 78-33. On Saturday the Lady Bucks led by as many as 20 points but saw Roane St roar back to take the TCCAA game 55-53. Lekera Taylor had a nice game for Motlow leading her team with 17. Fun Event At Willowbrook
The Santa Sleigh 5k and Long John Open Golf Tournament was a tremendous success Saturday, at the Willow Brook golf course. This is the 2nd Annual event that benefits the Coffee County Children’s Advocacy Center and Coffee County Cares for Families. Tennessee introduced Butch Jones on Friday as its successor to Derek Dooley, who was fired Nov. 18 after going 15-21 in three seasons. Jones called Tennessee his dream job and said he was taking over “the best college football program in America.” The 44-year-old Jones has a 50-27 record in six seasons as a head coach.
