High School Basketball Season Opens Thursday Night

The Coffee County High School basketball teams will play Warren County on Thursday @ Tullahoma High School in the Russell Barnett Hall of Fame Games. The game times have been switched. The boys will play at 3:00 and the girls will play at 4:30. On Friday the two teams will also play @ Tullahoma against Grundy County. The girl’s game will start at 3:00 and the boys at 4:30. Middle Basketball Action From Monday Night

A score of 39 to 0 at halftime is pretty good no matter what sport you play.  But when it comes in the middle school girls basketball, it probably represents an offensive and defensive performance rarely matched at any level. Football Regions Almost Set For 2015

The TSSAA released its proposed football regions ahead of this week’s Board of Control meeting. Rutherford County’s five largest schools (Blackman, Oakland, Riverdale, Siegel and Smyrna) will be in Region 2-6A with Coffee County, Cookeville and Warren County. LaVergne, Stewarts Creek, Columbia, Franklin County, Independence, Lincoln County, Shelbyville and Summit will be in proposed Region 5-5A. Region 4-4A is looking like it will be Giles County, Lawrence County, Marshall County, Page, Spring Hill, and Tullahoma. Coffee Middle Basketball Teams Get Sweep In Home Opener

If Thursday night’s crowd is any indication, the Coffee County Middle School varsity basketball teams should expect to play in front of packed gyms all season. The Raiders and Lady Raiders hosted North Franklin in their home opener and came away with a pair of convincing wins. In the girl’s game, the Lady Raiders shook off a shaky start to tie the Gatorettes at 6 with 1:20 left in the 1st quarter prompting North to take a time out. Rockets Play Doubleheader

Getting off to a strong start is a long accepted recipe for victory in middle school basketball. The Lady Rockets of Westwood Middle followed that recipe to perfection on Thursday night as they roared out to a 14 to 4 lead after 1 quarter of play as they rolled up Liberty by a final score of 30 to 12.
