Getting off to a strong start is a long accepted recipe for victory in middle school basketball. The Lady Rockets of Westwood Middle followed that recipe to perfection on Thursday night as they roared out to a 14 to 4 lead after 1 quarter of play as they rolled up Liberty by a final score of 30 to 12. The Lady Rocket defense shut out Liberty in the 3rd quarter and held them to 4 points in the other 3 quarters as they improved to 4 and 3 on the season. Ashley Starks led the Rockets in scoring with 10 points while Morgan Jones added 8 points and Karen Medina scored 5 points.

The Rockets were not as successful in getting the hot start as they saw the visiting Patriots roar out to a 16 to 2 after the first 6 minutes. A furious 2nd half rally could not erase the cold shooting start as the Rockets fell by a final score of 42 to 32. Marcus Pendleton led the Rockets in scoring with 16 points while Isaiah Owens came off the bench for a pair of 3 pointers to finish with 6 points.
