The Aaron’s Sales and Lease Student of the week for 12 December 2014 is Brittany Reed. Brittany is in fifth grade at New Union Elementary School in Coffee County. She is the daughter of proud parents Angel and Jerry. She was nominated for this award because she is helpful, attentive and sets the example for all other students. Brittany’s favorite subject is math because she says she’s really good at it. She plans to be a doctor when she gets older. The Westwood Rockets and Lady Rockets will be hosting a “Teddy Bear Toss” between games of their doubleheader with Moore County on Thursday, December 18th. All fans are asked to bring a NEW Teddy Bear, with the tag still attached, to the game for a free admission to the contest. The Teddy Bears will be tossed at the center circle and the closest to the center will win a Gift basket featuring Westwood sports shirts, a Sonic gift card, Chick-Fil-A prizes, and iTunes gift card and so much more. Coffee County Raider Wrestlers Return Home for Thursday Night Match

The Coffee County Central High School wrestling team will hit the mat on Thursday night as they welcome Cookeville and Centennial to the Joe Frank Patch Memorial Gymnasium for a tri-meet beginning at 6:00 PM.  The Raiders traveled to Summit on Tuesday night for a 4 way meet featuring Riverdale, Stratford and Summit.  The Raiders got a win over Stratford as Owen Teague(wrestling at 132), David Tate(138), Joshua Tobitt(195) and Brandon Baumstein(120) all got pins to win their matches.  Matthew DeLong(160) and Dustin Seals(285) got forfeit wins. Lady Raiders Win, Raiders Fall In District Games With Lincoln County

In District 8-AAA basketball action last night Coffee County hosted Lincoln County at “The Patch”. The Lady Raiders picked up an important district win as they defeated the Lady Falcons 60-46. Cam Davis led Coffee County with 19. She was named the Gateway Tire and Service Center player of the game. The Lady Raiders are now 5-5 overall and 1-1 in district play. Between games Coffee County High School honored the Lady Raider golf team that won the 2014 district and region championships and finished runner-up in the state. Local Middle School Basketball Teams In Action On Monday

Two huge 3 pointers in the 3rd quarter from South Franklin led the Lady Trojans to a 35 to 29 win over Coffee Middle on Monday night. Trailing by 4 at the half, Coffee Middle tied it up on a basket inside by Natalie McNeese with 5:03 left in the 3rd, but South’s 3 pointer 20 seconds later gave the visiting Trojans a lead they would never relinquish. Middle School Basketball Update

In middle school basketball action on Thursday, Westwood welcomed Fayetteville to the Joel Vinson Gym. Both teams played well before a good home crowd as the Rockets and Lady Rockets got 2 nice conference wins. Two Raiders Named All-District

Coffee County Freshman quarterback Alontae Taylor and senior running back Cody Howes were recently selected All-District 8. Junior Jacoby Lowe coming up one vote short as the district’s offensive lineman of the year. Taylor was the nation’s leading rusher for freshmen during the regular season with 1,676 yards according to MaxPreps.com. The first year player was recently named to the Adidas Freshman All-American team. Taylor will not be allowed to play in the freshman all-star game because of a TSSAA rule that prohibits players in such games until they have completed playing eligibility on the high school level.
