Local Middle School Basketball Teams In Action On Monday

Two huge 3 pointers in the 3rd quarter from South Franklin led the Lady Trojans to a 35 to 29 win over Coffee Middle on Monday night. Trailing by 4 at the half, Coffee Middle tied it up on a basket inside by Natalie McNeese with 5:03 left in the 3rd, but South’s 3 pointer 20 seconds later gave the visiting Trojans a lead they would never relinquish. The loss was the first loss of the season for Coffee Middle as it dropped them to 10 and 1 on the year and 7 & 1 in conference play.
The Lady Raiders were led in scoring by Julia Duncan, who finished with 11 points. Abby Morgan scored 8 points for Coffee County and Bella Vinson came off the bench for four 4th quarter points.
The Raiders scrapped out a hard fought 24 to 17 win in the nightcap. The win was the second win of the year over South and improved the Raiders record to 6 and 5 on the season and 4 and 4 in conference play. Briggs Haithcock and Andrew Mahaffey each had 7 points to lead Coffee County. Coffee Middle travels to North Franklin on Thursday night for a crucial conference game. Coffee County Middle’s next home game is Monday, December 15th as Warren County comes to town. That night, Coffee County Middle School will be taking up food donations to feed local families on the holidays. For every non-perishable, canned food item brought in, they will take $1 off the price of admission. Mark your calendars and plan on attending and helping out.

Trailing by 3 points at the half, the Lady Rockets had themselves poised for an upset win over Forrest on Monday night. Missed free throws and a red hot shooting Forrest team in the 2nd half dashed those hopes as Forrest dropped Westwood 34 to 26. Morgan Jones led the Lady Rockets in scoring with 10 points while Ashley Starks added 8 points.
In the boy’s contest, a furious 4th quarter rally by Westwood cut the Forrest lead to 4 points and had the Rockets in position to knock off previously unbeaten Forrest. Forrest, however, proved why they are the conference leader as they hit their free throws down the stretch to pull out the 46 to 36 win at the Joel Vinson Gym on Monday night. Marcus Pendleton finished with 14 points to lead Westwood while Chase Simpkins added 12.
Westwood will be on the road on Thursday night as they travel to Shelbyville to take on Liberty. The girl’s game will tip off at 6 PM.
