Tied at 30 at the half, things looked good for the Red Raiders of Coffee County in their opening round game against Baylor in the Red Raider Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The final 16 minutes saw the Raiders shooting touch go cold as Baylor outscored Coffee County 36 to 7 in the second half to take the 66 to 37 win. Friday night, the Lady Raiders of Coffee County took on the Raptors of Ravenwood in the Central Magnet Christmas Tournament in Murfreesboro facing a serious size match up problem. Injuries and illness had limited the Lady Raider depth in the post, and 3 first half fouls on Cameron Davis led to a severe size disadvantage for the Lady Raiders as they fell by a final of 51 to 38. The Aaron’s Sales and Lease Student of the week for 19 December 2014 is Jason Tundidor. Jason is in fifth grade at North Coffee Elementary School in Coffee County. He is the son of proud parents Nancy and Jim. He was nominated for this award because he is helpful to his teachers and classmates and he is also a great student. Jason likes sports and plays basketball and football. Jason’s favorite subject is math because he says it’s fun. He plans to be a police officer when he gets older just like his parents. The Lady Raiders of Coffee County Central High School outscored Maplewood 36 to 9 in the “middle half” of the game to coast to a 57 to 21 win in the opening round of the Murfreesboro Central Magnet Christmas Tournament on Thursday night. Westwood Gets a Sweep Over Moore County
The Westwood Rockets and Lady Rockets welcomed Moore County to Joel Vinson Gym on Thursday night as they hosted a Teddy Bear Toss. The Lady Rockets outscored Moore County 12 to 2 in the 2nd quarter and held off a late Raiderette ally to win 41 to 32 in girls action. Red Raider Football Awards Banquet
Thursday night at Coffee County High School the annual football awards banquet was held. Two of the many awards handed out were the Raider Award, an annual award presented by Thunder Radio and the Gateway Tire and Service Center/WMSR MVP. The Raider award is given to a player that not only excels on the field, but also in the classroom and or contributes time and energy to community projects. This year’s winner was Junior Mill Harner. Lady Raiders Win, Raiders Fall in Fayetteville
Tuesday night high school basketball action had Coffee County traveling to Fayetteville. The Lady Raiders had a difficult time in the first half falling behind 27-17 at the break. After halftime Coffee County found their shooting touch and was able to come from behind and defeat Fayetteville, 47-41. Red Raider Signs To Play College Golf
Last night at Willowbrook golf course, Coffee County senior Jacob Prater signed a scholarship to continue his academic and golf career at Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, TN. Prater was a captain on this year’s Raider golf team and was named All-District and earned a berth in the TSSAA state championship tournament in October of this year. Tennessee Wesleyan competes in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics or NAIA. The Bulldogs are the pre-season 20th ranked team in the nation and under the direction of 8th year Head Coach Mike Poe. Tennessee Wesleyan finished 10th in nation last season....
