The CHS Cross Country teams competed in the Freeman Invitational on Thursday held at the Webb School. The Red Raider harriers continued their season long improvement as the boys teams finished 4th out of 9 teams on the day. Despite racing on a challenging course which was saturated from last week’s rains, four of the seven Red Raiders runners posted personal best times. Andy Rosson again paced the Raiders as he finished 4th overall in the race at 18:18. In 7th place for the Raider team turning in a season’s best time of 18:30 was Maxwell Nicoll followed by Scott Randolph finishing 15th in a time of 19;21. Caleb Buck just missed a new personal best at 21:02 finishing in 35th place and freshman Neil Slone ran his best time of the year turning in a time of 21:06 placing him 38th. The final 2 runners also had personal best times with freshman Aaron Buck running 22:04 and sophomore Trevor Reese running 25:20.
For the girls, Makenzie Morgan ran a solid time of 25:00 cutting a minute and 18 seconds off of her previous time on this course placing her 21st. Nadja Hansen was the next finisher for the Lady Raiders in 37th with a time of 27:11. The best performance of the day was turned in by rapidly improving Kayla McCormick who cut 3 minutes off her previous time on the course. Newcomer Claudia Bertuzzi turned in a time of 29:39 which bested her only other race of a few weeks ago at Lincoln County by a minute. Next up for the Red Raider “off-roaders” is the Region Championship Meet on Thursday in Smyrna at Sharp Springs. Races begin at 3 p.m.
