Tough Night for Raider Basketball
Coffee County traveled to Shelbyville looking for the season sweeps on Tuesday night. After leading by 3 after the 1st quarter, Coffee County’s Lady Raiders were outscored in the 2nd quarter 14 to 7 and trailed at the break 26 to 22. The combination of missed shots in the paint and turnovers in the 2nd allowed Shelbyville to extend their lead to double digits as they pulled away to win it by a final score of 51 to 34. Coffee County was led in scoring by Ginny Clayborne who scored 13 points and earned the Gateway Tire and Service Center Player of the game honors. Katie Reid added 10 points for Coffee County. The loss dropped Coffee County’s record to 6 and 6 on the year.
In boy’s action, Shelbyville came out in the 1st quarter with a tenacious defense and a hot shooting touch in building an 18 to five 1st quarter lead. The Raiders clawed back to cut it to a 9 point deficit at the half but could not get it any closer in the second half as they fall by a final score of 54 to 42. The leading scorer for Coffee County was Brock Ivy-Bodman as he finished with 13 points and earned the Gateway Tire and Service Center Player of the game honors.
The girls will be traveling to Gatlinburg this weekend taking on Gatlinburg-Pittman on Thursday night in the first round of the Smokey Mountain Classic. The boys will be in Murfreesboro on December 27th and 28th at the Central Magnet Tournament. The boys will play Kingsbury on Thursday the 27th at 4:30 and Hume-Fogg on Friday the 28th also at 4:30. Vandy Slips Past Cornell
Kyle Fuller scored 17 points to lead Vanderbilt to a 66-55 victory over Cornell on Monday night.
Kedren Johnson added 15 points as the Commodores (5-4) staved off a second-half comeback by the Big Red (4-6).

Raiders Win Two Over Rebels
In boy’s action, Coffee County battled through some missed shots in the 1st half and trailed at the intermission 17 to 12. That deficit ballooned to 10 points forcing a timeout with just under 6 minutes to play in the 3rd. Out of the timeout, the Raider defense came alive and the offense found its rhythm. Brock Ivy-Bodman had a pair of steals and 10 points in the final 6 minutes of the 3rd quarter as Coffee County took a 28 to 24 lead into the 4th quarter closing out the 3rd on a 16 to 2 run. Coffee County went 11 of 12 from the free throw line in the 4th quarter to earn a hard fought 45 – 41 win. The win moved the Raiders record to 4 and 7 on the year and earned them a season sweep of Franklin County. The leading scorer for Coffee County was Lance Chrismond who had 18 points. Brock Ivy-Bodman had 10 points, all of which came in the huge 3rd quarter comeback and that performance earned him the Gateway Tire and Service Center Player of the game honors.

Vandy Wins At Home
Playing for the first time in nine days, Vanderbilt struggled to pull away from Alabama A&M.
When the Commodores finally grabbed some breathing room, Kedren Johnson made sure it stayed that way, scoring 12 of his 19 points in the second half to lead Vanderbilt to a 71-46 victory on Saturday night.
The Commodores (4-4) played for the first time since an overtime victory at Xavier on Dec. 6. The Dores will host Cornell tonight at 8pm.
Coffee County Basketball Teams Fall To Falcons
Coffee County welcomed Lincoln County to the Joe Frank Patch Memorial gym on Friday night (Dec. 14, 2012). In girl’s action, Lincoln County took a 22 to 18 lead into the half. Lincoln County exploded in the 3rd Quarter to build an 11 point lead with 3 minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter. But Coffee County went on a furious 7 point run to end the quarter eventually tying the game with 5:40 remaining. The teams battled back and forth throughout the dramatic 4th quarter before Liz Faulkner hit a 3 pointer from the corner as time expired to give the Falcons a 46-43 win. Coffee County was led in scoring by Alaina Lusk who had 13 points, while Ginny Clayborne added 11. The loss dropped Coffee County to 5 and 5 on the year. The Gateway Tire and Service Center Player of the game was TaNeesa Buchanan who finished with 7 points for the Raiders.
In boys action, Coffee County nailed nine 1st National Bank 3 pointers, but could not overcome the physical play of the visiting Falcons as they fell 65 to 45. The game was tied at the end of the 1st period before Lincoln County pushed their halftime lead to 4. The Falcons used their deep bench and their quick, physical defensive pressure to control the 2nd half. The Raiders fall to 3 and 6 on the year. The Gateway Tire and Service Center Player of the game was Lance Crismond who finished with 26 points on the night. Lucas Crismond added 14 points and Anthony Jackson netted 12.
