Raider Track Team Headed To Meet In Chattanooga

Track10 individuals and 2 relay teams from Coffee County Central High School track team have been invited to compete in the prestigious Chattanooga Little Caesars Individual Championships being held at Red Bank High School on Friday. The event is open to the top 10 individual performances for each event this track season of Tennessee high schools in the Chattanooga area.
From the Lady Raider team, the following folks have qualified:
Karson Young & Heather Fox – Triple Jump
Lexee Miller & Cameron Davis – Discus Throw
Haley Banks & Lexee Miller – Shot Put
Haley Banks & Taylor Deberry – 100M Hurdles
Heather Fox – 400M Dash
Also, the girls 4×400 relay team of; Heather Fox, Aerial Williams, Haley Banks and Karson Young were selected.
For the Red Raiders, qualifiers were:Kani Johnson – 110M Hurdles
David Keith & Anthony Jackson – High Jump
Anthony Jackson – 800M
And the boys 4×800 team of Anthony Jackson, Lucas Chrismond, Andy Rosson & Ben Myers.

Motlow Bucks Head Coach Matt Sligh will host a basketball skills clinic on Saturday, May 3, at Copperweld Arena inside Nisbett Center on the Motlow Moore County campus.
The clinic will feature two separate sessions. The first is for kindergarten through sixth-grade students and will begin at 8 a.m. and end at noon. The second session is for seventh through 12th graders and will begin at 1 p.m. and end at 4:30 p.m. Both sessions are open to both boys and girls.
The cost of the clinic is $30 per child or $45 for two children from the same family. Attendees are encouraged to reserve their spot at the clinic by visiting the Motlow athletics web site and downloading the registration form. Please fill out the form and return it to the address on it along with payment.

Coffee County Baseball and Softball District Tournaments

CCThe District 8-AAA baseball tournament begins Thursday night at 6pm for the Coffee County Red Raiders. Big Red will host the winner of the game between Franklin County and Shelbyville. That game is tonight.
In district softball action the regular season champs, Coffee County Lady Raiders will play the winner of the Friday game between Tullahoma and Lawrence County. The Lady Raiders will hit the field at noon on Saturday in Shelbyville.
Thunder Radio will broadcast both games.
** Coffee County baseball will play at Riverdale Wednesday at 5pm. This is a make-up game.

Motlow Sports Update

Motlow sportsHayden Pewitt drove in the winning run with a two-out, ninth-inning single and the Motlow Bucks advanced in the TCCAA/Region VII Tournament with a 7-6 win over Cleveland State at the Driver Baseball Complex on Saturday. The Bucks were down 6-3 going into the bottom of 9th and managed to score 4 times for the win. The win came on the heels of Motlow’s 8-4 win over the Cougars on Friday and completed a sweep of their tournament-opening series. Motlow now advances to the final five-team tournament in Gallatin this weekend. The Bucks are seeded fourth and will play fifth-seed Volunteer State at 10 a.m. Friday. The Bucks swept a three-game series over Volunteer State in late February at the Driver Complex. If Motlow can get past the Pioneers they will be matched with top-seed Columbia State at 4 p.m. on Friday. If Volunteer wins Friday’s first game then the Bucks will fall into the elimination bracket and will play again at 7 p.m. Friday. Columbia is the top seed in the tournament, with Walters State second and Jackson State third.

The Motlow Lady Bucks saw their 2014 softball season come to a disappointing end when they dropped a 9-1, 12-11 doubleheader to Columbia State last weekend in the opening round of the TCCAA/Region VII Tournament in Columbia.
The Lady Bucks will lose 10 sophomores from this year’s squad and will return five players in 2015 that made significant contributions as freshmen.

Some of the student’s from Coffee County’s Hickerson Elementary School participated in the Country Music Kids Rock Marathon Sunday in Nashville.
They have been training for weeks with their school nurse Angela Ridner for the event.  The student running club organized by Nurse Ridner is known as the Hickerson Health Hawks. They ran each week after school and clocked their miles. Sunday they traveled to Nashville and completed the last mile of the marathon.

The 48th Mid-State Rotary/Rudy Hensel Invitational Track Meet was held on Saturday in Tullahoma and Coffee County competed along with 7 other area schools. In girls competition, Coffee County did well in the field events and finished 2nd overall. In boys action, a skeleton crew from the Coffee County roster competed strong finishing in 5th place.

The Lady Raiders will compete in the sub sectional on Tuesday, May 6th and the Raiders sub sectional is scheduled for Thursday, May 8th. Both meets begin at 5:00 PM and both meets are held at Riverdale.

Haley Hinshaw racked up four RBIs on two hits for the Coffee County Central Lady Raiders as they beat Lincoln County 5-0 on Sunday.

The win earned Coffee County the regular season District 8-AAA championship. Hinshaw hit a 3-run homer in the third inning and singled in the fifth inning. Shelby Giles added an RBI double.
Brianna Jones struck out 11 in the shutout win.
The Lady Raiders will play in the district tournament on Saturday in Shelbyville, an opponent and time will be decided on Tuesday.

Coffee County Classic

Friday was a big day for Coffee County Lady Raider Pitcher Brianna Jones. Brianna threw her 5th no-hitter of the season in the Coffee County 2-0 victory over Daniel Boone in the Coffee County Classic. She also struck out 10 batters.
Brianna boosted her batting average thanks to a perfect 2-2 day at the plate to pace the Lady Raiders. She singled in the first inning and homered in the third inning. Jones was named the Gateway Tire and Service Center Player of the game.

In Coffee County’s second game of the tournament they took on Chattanooga Central. The Coffee County Lady Raiders pulled out the win thanks to a strong sixth inning. Two errors on the same play scored Grace and Anna Spellings and gave the Lady Raiders the lead for good. Coffee County trailed 2-1 going into the 6th but scored 3 times for a 4-2 win.
The Lady Raiders were led by Brianna Jones’s hitting again. Brianna went 2-3, drove in one and scored one run. She hit a long homer in the fourth inning and singled in the sixth inning.
Coffee County Central relied on Bethany Baker to eat up innings en route to the win. Bethany pitched six innings and allowed one earned run, five hits and 1 walk while striking out four.
Brittany Williams was named the player of the game.

Brianna Jones struck out 11 batters, but it wasn’t enough to carry the Coffee County Lady Raiders to a win on Saturday, as the Lady Raiders fell to Hendersonville 1-0 in six innings.
Hendersonville managed to score one run in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Matti Byrd.
Jones was the player of the game.

In the single elimination part of the tournament Coffee County could not overcome errors and mental mistakes falling to Seymour 9-1. Down 2-1 in the final inning the Lady Eagles got the bases loaded with 2 outs. A mental mistake on a ground ball in the infield allowed Seymour to go up 3-1. The flood gates would open up and 6 more runs would score.
Brittany Williams who had 2 hits was the player of the game.

Baylor School from Chattanooga defeated Seymour for the championship.

Westwood opened play in the Big Southeast Conference Tournament on Saturday with a 9 to 1 defeat of Liberty. Lexi Medley had a 2 run home run for the Lady Rockets and it would be all the runs Westwood would need as Raven Rogers got the win striking out 6 in 6 innings of play while allowing only 2 hits. Carlee Sullivan pitched 1 inning of scoreless relief striking out 2. Rogers finished 3 for 3 with 3 RBI, Medley was 2 for 4 with 4 RBI and Haley Miller was 2 for 2 with a double.
In the 2nd game, Westwood took on the #2 seeded Cascade. Westwood got on the board first as Rogers scored in the top of the first inning on a Byanka Woods RBI groundout, but Cascade led 6 to 3 going into the 7th inning. Rogers and Medley scored as Woods had another RBI but the rally fell short as the Rockets were dropped into the elimination bracket by a final score of 6 to 5. Rogers finished with 3 hits, Destiny Spaulding had 3 walks and Mikayla Reel added an RBI for the Lady Rockets.
In the final game of the night, in the elimination bracket, Westwood disposed of Fayetteville by a final of 11 to 6. Rogers was 3 for 4 again with 4 RBI while striking out 11. Lexi Medley and Kristen Wray were also 3 for 4 on the night while Destiny Spaulding was 2 for 3 with a walk.

The Westwood softball season came to a close on Sunday afternoon in the semifinals of the Big Southeast Conference Tournament at the hands of the regular season champions Community by a final score of 11 to 1. Raven Rogers, Destiny Spaulding, Alexia Barnes and Mikayla Reel each had hits for Westwood in the game. After the contest, Raven Rogers, Lexi Medley and Destiny Spaulding were named to the All-Conference team. The Lady Rockets finished the season with a record of 16 wins, 5 losses and 1 tie.

Coffee County baseball played host to LaVergne on Friday for Senior Night. The Wolverines got 2 unearned runs in the top of the 1st inning and that was enough to spoil the party as LaVergne went on to win 5 to 1. The Raiders got their lone run in the bottom of the 1st inning as Zack Holder doubled home Wyatt Day who came on as the courtesy runner for Tyler Cavendar who also had a double earlier in the inning. The Raiders were held to 5 hits as Hudson Rollman was 1 for 2 with a double and a walk. Kyle Douglas and Tyler Bradshaw added singles to round out the hitting for Coffee County. Coffee County will travel to Riverdale on Monday for a non-district matchup. The Raiders open the District 8AAA Tournament at home on Thursday at 6 PM as they will play host to the winner of Shelbyville and Franklin County.

soccer-playerNine different Red Raiders found the back of the net as the CHS Soccer team blasted Lawrence County on Saturday by a final score of 9 to 1. Scoring for Coffee County were: Mateo Senegas, Michael Garcia, Breyer Taylor, David Morgan, Cole Hawkins, John Paringer, Chris Freimuth and Ethan Hickman. With the win, Coffee County finished the regular season in a tie for 3rd place in the district standings. Due to the tiebreaker system, Coffee County will unfortunately have to travel on Saturday to Shelbyville for a 1st round District 8 Tournament game. The Raiders will first close out the regular season with a trip to Murfreesboro on Thursday night to take on Siegel in a 7 PM non-district match.
