Red Raider Baseball Falls to Lincoln County on Wednesday
Banging out 10 hits for the game and scoring 2 runs in the top of the first inning is usually a recipe for success for the CHS Red Raider baseball team. Unfortunately, an 8 run inning for Lincoln County saw Coffee County drop Wednesday’s district contest by a final score of 10 to 2. Stanton Keele and Deandre Wakefield pushed runs across in the first inning with no one out, but Lincoln County got out of the bases loaded jam and tied the score in the bottom of the first to send the tie game into the 4th. 5 hits, 4 walks and an error in the 4th inning dropped Coffee County to 0 and 4 in district play on the season. Zach Wise had 2 doubles for Coffee County while Trace Freidlein, Stanton Keele and Peyton Booth all rapped out a pair of singles. Stanton Keele was named the Gateway Tire and Service Center Player of the game.
The JV Raiders saw Bradley King pitch a 1 hitter and Noah Anderson drive home Case Giles for the only run of the game as Coffee County dumped Lincoln County 1 to 0 in JV action.

CHS forward Samuel Brown(left) attempts to get a shot off against the MTCS keeper in JV action on Monday night.
It took nearly 3 weeks, but the CHS Red Raider soccer team FINALLY hosted a game on their home field on Monday night as the JV team played host to Middle Tennessee Christian. The Raiders scored 3 goals in each half to capture a 6 to 1 win over the visiting Cougars. Samuel Brown scored a 1st half hat trick with goals in the 8th, 14th and 35th minutes to give the Raiders a 3 to 0 lead at intermission. Coffee County dominated the time of possession holding MTCS to one realistic goal opportunity which was stopped by keeper Davis Green. In the 2nd half, Ethan Hickman scored goals in the 42nd and 47th minutes before being taken down in the box in 50th minute stopping his hat trick attempt. Miguel Mendoza drove the ensuing penalty kick past the beleaguered Cougar keeper to give Coffee County a 6 to 0 lead. Spectacular play in net by Davis and Mason Boles kept the shutout in tact until the 72nd minute when Middle Tennessee Christian was able to find the back of the net on an odd man rush. The varsity soccer team will be in action on Friday and Saturday in Gulf Shores, Alabama as they travel south for the Spring Break tournament.

Motlow Guard To Play At D-1 Missouri State
That changed when Matt Sligh, who had just been hired as Motlow’s coach, called during the summer of 2013.
Fast forward two years and the letters kept piling up for the Bucks point guard, as he made a name for himself on the court. After his freshman season in 2014, Miller was named an All-American, only the 10th in school history, and was touted as one of the premier junior college point guards in the nation.
After electing to stay at Motlow for his sophomore season, the question then became where would Miller sign once the Bucks’ season concluded. After teasing his decision on social media for some time Miller cleared things up when he verbally committed to Missouri State University. He will officially sign on April 15.
His decision comes after several mid-major and major colleges had been looking at the 5-foot-10 point guard. Included in those schools were West Virginia, Marquette, Missouri and Tennessee.
Because Miller had been receiving attention from several programs, Missouri State did not start its recruiting process until earlier this month.
“Missouri State came in late and Paul Lusk, the head coach, was recruiting me,” Miller said. “They came to me after the Columbia State game, it was Coach [Jermaine] Henderson. He said that they had just lost their 20-point man and they wanted me to be that guy. So the head coach started recruiting me immediately.”
This past season, Missouri State racked up an overall record of 11-20, but lost its play-in game to get into the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.
The sophomore can lay claim to being Motlow’s all-time leader in 3-pointers made, knocking down 157 3-balls in his two-year career. The previous mark of 152 was set by John Gales in 1993-95.
Miller also finishes second all-time on the school’s assists per game, averaging eight per contest. He is third in all-time assists totaling 440 for his career.
Miller’s 19.9 points per contest is fifth all-time in the Motlow history books, but he finishes sixth in total points, 1,097. Tim Fant is the school’s scoring leader with 1,551 points, done in 1988-90, and he averaged 26.7 points a game.
Miller also got it done on the defensive end, with 2.2 steals per contest, good enough for sixth all-time at the school.
Westwood Falls to Moore County on Sunday
A pair of Moore County pitchers hurled a no-hitter to drop Westwood softball in Lynchburg in middle school softball action on Sunday. The home standing Raiders scored 8 runs in the 1st inning on their way to a 15 to 0 win over the Lady Rockets in a steady rain. Alexcia Barnes and Alex Hershman were the only base runners for Westwood as they each reached on errors. Westwood will be off this week for spring break before they host their first home game of the year on Monday, March 30th against Liberty. First pitch will be at 4:30 PM at Lady Rocket Field.
