James “Jim” Claude Painter, long time head baseball coach of Columbia State Community College, passed this life on Tuesday, June 3rd, 2014 at Harton Regional Medical Center in Tullahoma at the age of 78.

Mr. Painter was born in Martinsville, VA to the late Cloyd W. and Elizabeth Faulkes Painter. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three grandchildren, Madison, Mary Kimberly, and Taylor McKenna.

Mr. Painter is survived by his wife, Faye Painter of Tullahoma; three daughters, Peggy Lucas and her husband James of Tullahoma, Sandra Chilton and her husband Rob of Florence, KY, and Kim Cotter and her husband Jeff of Jackson, TN; one son, John Painter and his wife Mary Margaret of Maryville, TN; two sisters, Audrey Lawson and her husband Larry of Richmond, VA, and Judy Painter of Martinsville, VA; one brother, Irvin Painter and his wife, Sylvia of Martinsville, VA; and nine grandchildren, Jackson and David Painter, Cody and Garret Lucas, Madelyne, Lauren, and Reece Chilton, and Luke and Owen Cotter.

Visitation for Mr. Painter will be held on Friday, June 6th, 2014 from 2:00-7:00 pm with the funeral service to immediately follow at 7:00 pm in the Kilgore Funeral Home Chapel with Jackie Reavis, Michael Corn, and John Painter officiating.

Burial will be on Saturday, June 7th, 2014 at Lawrence County Memorial Gardens in Lawrenceburg, TN at 1:00 pm.

The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the charity of your choice.

Graveside services for Ms. Stephanie Ann Tucker Phillips, age 43, of Hillsboro, will be conducted Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 4, 2014 from 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM at the Coffee County Funeral Chapel.

Ms. Phillips passed away Sunday, June 1, 2014 in Nashville surrounded by her loving family.

Stephanie was born October 27, 1970 to her parents, Roger Allen Tucker and Phyllis Ann Womble Prather.

After graduating from Tullahoma High School in 1988, Stephanie successfully achieved her CNA license from Tennessee Technological University and went on to receive her Medical Assistant License in 2012 from Kaplan University. Stephanie loved helping people and she enjoyed living life. She was passionate about riding motorcycles, being outdoors, camping and fishing. She was also a faithful follower of the TV show “Dallas”.

Ms. Stephanie was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Charles Vernon Tucker and Maggie Ruth Tant Tucker; maternal grandparents Thurston Womble and Cova Hatfield Womble; and step-mother Janice Marie Brandon Tucker.

Ms. Phillips is survived by her loving companion, Michael Anthony “Mike” Smith of Hillsboro, Tennessee; father, Roger A. Tucker of Tullahoma, Tennessee; mother, Phyllis Ann Prather and husband, Robert, of Manchester, Tennessee; two daughters Kellie Lynn Phillips of Manchester and Shauna Marye Davenport and husband, Johnathan of Manchester, Tennessee; two step-sons, Timothy Bruce Phillips, II and Brett Dewayne Phillips, both of Tullahoma, Tennessee; and a special uncle, Billy Womble of Tullahoma, Tennessee. Ms. Stephanie was known and loved as Nana and Nannie by Mike’s grandchildren, Keylee and Eli Duty.

She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Mrs. , age 87 of Tullahoma, Tennessee passed away, Monday, June 2, 2014 at her residence at Emeritus of Tullahoma.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 4 at 11AM at the First Church of the Nazarene of Tullahoma with Bro. Elbert Smith officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, June 3 from 5 PM to 8 PM at the church.

Mrs. Ghea, a native of Coffee County was the daughter of the late George Leo and Lela Broadrick.

She had worked as a sewer at Tennessee Apparel. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene of Tullahoma.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in by her husband, Charlie Ghea; four brothers, Nicil, Oral, Beryl and Luther Broadrick and four sisters, Annie Belle Wiser, Odie Glasgow, Willadean Fulton and Naomi Broadrick.

She is survived by one brother, Lewis Broadrick and his wife Ann of Lutz, FL; special friend and caregiver, Carolyn Wilson of Tullahoma and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations be made to the First Church of the Nazarene Building Fund.

Funeral services for Mr. Franklin Myers, age 75, of Manchester, will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Manchester Funeral Home Chapel with Marion Pope officiating. 

Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Warren County. 

Visitation with the family will be from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home. 

Mr. Myers passed away on Sunday, June 1 at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga.

 
Mr. Myers was born in Grundy County, the son of the late Luther and Demi Fults Myers. 

He was a logger for Randy Fults Sawmill.  He enjoyed farming, plowing, working in his vegetable garden, and tinkering with anything mechanical.

 
Franklin is survived by one son, James F. Myers of Manchester; one daughter, Catrina Weddington and her husband, Thomas of Manchester; two brothers, Bill and Kenneth Myers; two sisters, Marie Carlson and Hester Young; and two
grandchildren, Donnavon Phillips and Taylor Myers.

 

MANCHESTER FUNERAL HOME IS HONORED TO SERVE THE MYERS FAMILY 

Willie J. Henson, age 81 of the Oak Grove community, passed away May 30, 2014 at St. Thomas-Rutherford in Murfreesboro.

She was a native of Franklin County, a member of the Church of Christ at Oak Grove. She was a retired teacher who dearly loved her grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Charles Henson; her mother, Vera Hayes Baker and her father, Emmitt Baker; sister Lois Swann.

She is survived by her sons, Don Henson of Decherd and Dan Henson of Hillsboro; grandchildren, Jason Henson, Jennifer Henson, Katelin Henson, Thomas Jared Henson and Jace Henson.

The funeral service will be conducted from the chapel of Watson-North Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Sunday June 1, 2014 with Ralph Hart officiating.

Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Gardens with friends and family serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be Sunday June 1, 2014 starting at 11 a.m. and continuing until the time of the service at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Oak Grove Church of Christ.

Mr. Frank “Sonny” Sanders, age 80, of Tullahoma, TN., passed away Thursday morning, May 29, 2014, at Life Care Center of Tullahoma. Born in 1933 in Franklin County, TN. he was the son of the late Frankie Sanders and Lillian Blackburn Sanders.

He was a faithful Christian church member of Gospel Tabernacle Baptist Church in Tullahoma, TN., where he served as a Sunday School teacher and Deacon for many years. He also attended Marble Plains Baptist Church in Winchester, TN., where he served as a Deacon for several years and also headed up many projects such as the construction of the Fellowship Hall. Mr. Sanders enjoyed fishing and hunting and over the course of his life killed 99 bucks.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of many years, Dimple Sanders.

Mr. Sanders graduated from Tullahoma High School, attended Motlow State Community College, and majored in Business. He served on the Franklin County Planning Commission for 28 years, the Franklin County Zoning Commission for 23 years, the Franklin County School Committee for 8 years, Franklin County Recreation Committee for 4 years, Represented 7th District Franklin County Commissioner for 12 years, and Retired from Arnold Engineering Development Center after working there for 39 years. While working at AEDC he worked in Testing, Operations and Research. He was a machinist much of the time. He also worked with the Air Force and promoted and suggested the first deer to be released there, and suggested and promoted the first development of green tree areas at AEDC Management areas. He was a member of former Conservation Club at Arnold Engineering Development Center, while in Conservation Club, planted wild rice for waterfowl around Woods Reservoir, talked to TWRA and received the first release of the home goose flock in our area-1, raised and released a home flock of Mallard ducks on Woods Reservoir. During the 1970’s, contact was made with Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and Tennessee Valley Authority on preserving Mingo Swamp as a Wetland Project for waterfowl, and as a result the Mingo Area is now purchased under the present Wetlands Project and preserved for future generations. Mr. Sanders promoted an effort in 1978 of preserving 50,000 acres under ownership of Carters in Franklin County as National Forrest, and this to this day is still undetermined. He was also the Area Coordinator for 2 years on development of Jack Nicklaus Golf Course at Tims Ford Council and with TVA on Environmental Impact Study, and accumulated endorsements and support. Mr. Sanders was Co-Founder and Promoter of the Center Grove Fire Hall, he worked with Tims Ford Council on Shoreline clean-up with TVA and lake issues, he was involved in the planting of Cypress Trees from TVA around Tims Ford Lake shoreline, promoted a government reform (Consolidation) for Franklin County, but it did not pass. He was a developer of real estate in Franklin County, such as Golf Shores Subdivision and homes on the shoreline of Tims Ford Lake.

He is survived by one son Kent (Kim) Sanders of Winchester,TN., one daughter Linda (Michael) Spano of Bartlett, TN., one brother Ted (Eloise) Sanders, two sisters Thelma Jean (Fred) McClure and Patsy (Jimmy) Soloman, all of Tullahoma, TN., grandchildren Jay (Nicollette) Sanders, Malina Charnow Armstrong, Nick (Sherry) Spano, great grandchildren Fiona Charnow, Evan Charnow, Lilly Charnow, Aidan Armstrong, Alexis, Courtney, Michael, Peyton, and Dominic Spano.


Visitation with the family will be Friday, June 6, 2014 from 10AM until 1PM in the Chapel of Tullahoma Funeral Home.

Funeral Services for Mr. Sanders will be Friday, June 6, 2014, at 2PM in the Chapel of Tullahoma Funeral Home with Brother Hiram LeMay and Brother Rodney Shraeder officiating.

Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Tullahoma, TN.

Mrs. M. Alberta Poff Johnson of Tullahoma passed away after her long hard battle with cancer on May 29, 2014. She was 78 years old.

She was the wife of the late Howard A. “Buddy” Johnson of Tullahoma for over 50 years. Mrs. Johnson was born May 3, 1936 as the only child of the late Albert Poff of Manchester and Hazel Roberts Poff Vandygriff of Summitville. She was preceded in death by her only son in 2013, Rikio A. Johnson of Shelbyville.

She is survived by her daughter, Rene’ K. Johnson Pearce of Baton Rouge, LA., granddaughter Danielle E. Morrison Bachman of Tullahoma, grandson Damien E. Morrison of Murfreesboro, great granddaughter Jenna Bachman of Tullahoma, a very devoted sister- in- law Mary Jo “Jody” Johnson Daniels of Tullahoma, a devoted brother- in-law Jerry O. Johnson of Tullahoma, her best friend of 74 years Shirley Cooley Mann of Manchester and a host of loving friends, nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Johnson had been an employee of Redstone Arsenal in the late 1950’s and was employed at Arnold Airforce Base as the manager of B.X. from where she retired. She was a huge Alabama football fan and loved fishing and taking care of her yard. She also enjoyed reading and when her late husband was alive they enjoyed taking pictures at the lake.

There will be a private memorial service for family and friends at a later date.

Mrs. Florence Ferby Ford Hall, age 92, passed into the loving arms of her Savior on Friday, May 30th, 2014.

A native of Overton County, Tennessee, Mrs. Hall was born on May 5th, 1922, the daughter of Sam A. and Lora Ford of Love Joy in Overton County and Monterey, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Clarence Hall; a son, Gary Hall; her parents; sisters, Sally Loftis of Tullahoma, and Roxie Hoover of Michigan; and brothers, John Beecher Ford of Gross Point, Michigan, and Bethel Ford of Monterey, Tennessee.

She is survived by her daughter, Dianna Hall Darden (Don) of Tullahoma; two sons, Glenn Hall (Linda) and Tim Hall ( Teri) all of Tullahoma; daughter-in-law, Sharon Hall; eleven grandchildren, Kristy Hall of Memphis, Angela Hall of Nashville, Drew Hall (Brittany) of Tullahoma, Ashleigh Hall of Tullahoma, Andy Hall (Molly), Britany Hall of Tullahoma, Greg Darden (Rosina) of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Jack Darden of Franklin, TN, Emily Kerr (Neil), of Russellville, KY, David Darden of Fort Campbell, KY, and Steven Darden of Nashville; five great-grandchildren, Gracie Willingham of Tullahoma, Harrison Kerr of Russellville, KY, Tendi Darden of Fayetteville, NC, and Adriana and Maddox Hall of Tullahoma; five nieces and one nephew.

Mrs. Hall often talked with family and friends about her childhood and youth in Love Joy, her favorite place to live. She had so many memories about her days growing up in this tiny community in Overton County. Mrs. Hall graduated high school from Alpine Academy, where she was a varsity basketball player. She lived in Detroit, Michigan, Algood, Tennessee, and Oak Ridge, Tennessee before moving to Tullahoma in 1963. Mrs. Hall was a long time and faithful member of Grace Baptist Church in Tullahoma.

She and her son, Gary, owned H&H Health Foods in Northgate Mall, which she operated and managed for thirty-three years.

Family will receive friends at Kilgore Funeral Home in Tullahoma on Monday, June 2nd, 2014 from 4:00-6:00 pm with the funeral service immediately following visitation. The Reverend David Wall, Pastor of Unity Baptist Church, will officiate.

Interment will be in Welch Memorial Cemetery in Monterey, Tennessee.

Sylvester Tyrone Norman was born on March 7, 1963 in Manchester, Tennessee.

On Monday morning, May 26th God sent a loving angel to bring Sylvester on Home to Bright Glory. He quietly obeyed and his spirit filled soul took its flight across death’s valley.

He attended the Manchester City School System and graduated from Central High School. Sylvester was an active member of the Coffee County Rescue Squad; He was employed with the City of Manchester as a Crossing Guard. He was elected Constable.

He accepted Jesus Christ into his heart, and was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church of Manchester, Tennessee.

He leaves to cherish his memory his parents, Zeda Norman Brantley and Willie Brantley; two daughters, Raveana Noon of Tullahoma, Tennessee; Tiana Norman of Manchester, Tennessee; grandmother, Vivian Northcutt of Manchester, Tennessee; two sisters, Christy (Daryl) Wray of Manchester, Tennessee; Jennifer of McMinnville, Tennessee; three uncles, Lonnie Norman of Manchester, Tennessee; Carl Norman (Shirley) of California; and Henry Clay of Nashville, Tennessee; two aunts, Jackie Northcutt of Manchester, Tennessee; and Mildred Norman of Manchester, Tennessee; a host of nieces, cousins, and friends; special friends, Neal Simmons, Jerry Francis, and Keith Anthony.
