Manchester Firemen go through Training

MFDManchester Firefighters completed Engine Company Operations Training-First 5 Minutes this past weekend with the Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department (MFRD). Manchester Firefighters along with firefighters from across the state participated in this very in-depth training in the MFRD training area.
Captain Terry Smith from MFRD was the lead instructor for the training along with a several other Captains and Lt’s and firefighters from MFRD. They provided outstanding training to all who attended. The firefighters went through several evolutions in the key areas of the scene, from Incident Command, to Rapid Invention Crews (RIT) to fire attack crews.
Firefighters attacked the simulated fires on the ground level for three to four evolutions then attacked a simulated fire on the first floor of the facility while entering the facility from a second floor window. Manchester Fire crews mixed with firefighters from other departments to make up the various teams that went through the training. All fire crews in attendance were able to practice the lessons learned from NIST and UL training using the SLICE-RS methods under non-fire condition, which allowed each team to attack the simulated fires, learn what they did right and learn where they could improve their tactics and training, which enhances firefighter safety and survival.
Manchester Fire Chief George Chambers said that this was an outstanding training event, and the training was very worthwhile for all those that attended.
