It is the time of year when you may see baby deer out in the wild. Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency wants to remind you that if you do see a baby deer alone without its mother, you should leave that fawn alone.

TWRA reminds everyone that it is actually illegal to take a fawn from the wild. Taking a fawn is stealing a baby from its mother.

*Fawns left alone are not orphans. Mothers leave fawns to rest, eat and hide babies from predators

*When fawns are approached they will lower their heads, like still and take fewer breaths. This is normal behavior, the animal is not sick or injured.

*Please keep your distance. Doe will not return if humans are nearby because you are perceived as a predator.

If you plan to visit Rock Island State Park to swim in the coming weeks, you may need to make alternate plans. Tennessee State Park officials are warning visitors that swimming locations in the river section of the park will be closed to release water from the dam. 

At approximately 1:30 Tuesday afternoon, Manchester Fire and Rescue crews responded to a vehicle on fire on Woodland Court.

Upon arrival, crews found a Dodge Ram with the front end engulfed in fire. Crews were able to quickly knock down the fire and extinguish it through the engine compartment.

According to Manchester Fire Chief George Chambers, no injuries were reported.

Organizers are planning  to march from the Coffee County Justice Center to downtown Manchester on Friday, June 12.

Rallies and Marches have been held all across the country over the past two weeks since the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police officers.

According to Manchester Police Department Chief Mark Yother, DeAngelo Rozier applied for a permit to hold the event and the permit has been granted by the mayor’s office. Yother said organizers plan to march from the justice center at 300 Hillsboro Blvd. to the Manchester downtown square. He said they plan to assemble near the area of N. Irwin Street and W. Main Street for a demonstration and possibly speeches. The march is scheduled to begin at noon Friday.

“We plan to be in the area to ensure traffic is able to keep flowing in that area,” said Yother.

The Tennessee State Fair in Nashville has a history that spans 150 years. That history will be interrupted this year – as the fair has announced it will not open due to COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement, state fair manager Scott Jones said: “The fair is not closing its doors or abandoning its long history and tradition. We’re just doing what we believe is in the best interest of the health and well being of those who walk through our gates each year.”

Officials went on to explain that the fair had smaller space to operate due to construction of a new MLS stadium, making following COVID-19 safety guidelines more difficult. The fair was scheduled for September.

The Tennessee gas price average jumped eight cents last week – the largest weekly increase the state has seen so far in 2020. The Tennessee Gas Price average is now $1.79 which is nearly 23 cents more than one month ago and nearly 64 cents less than one year ago. The lowest price in Manchester as of 3 p.m. Tuesday was $1.79.

“The beginning of June has not seen gas prices this low since 2004,” said Megan Cooper, spokesperson, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “As crude oil prices trend higher and gasoline demand increases, Americans will see gas prices push more expensive, but this summer will be cheaper than last.”

National Gas Prices
For 66 days, the national gas price average held below the $2/gallon mark, pushing as cheap as $1.76. In the past week, the average has inched up to $2.03. Despite the consistent increases at the pump, prices are still significantly cheaper year-over-year. In fact, during the first week of June the past five years, gas prices have typically averaged $2.81.
U.S. gasoline demand continues to show increasing strength. The Energy Information Administration’s (EIA) latest reading shows a 4% weekly increase at 7.5 million b/d. That is the highest demand level since states began issuing stay-at-home orders in mid-March.

If you have children who qualify for free or reduced lunches when they are in school, you may soon be eligible for a new program called Pandemic EBT assistance to provide additional money for food during the current pandemic.

As of 2 p.m. Tuesday, there are now 27,575 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Tennessee. This includes 435 deaths and 1,974 hospitalizations. There are 18,013 recoveries, leaving 9,562 active cases in the state. This number is about 181 more than the previous day.

There have been 521,197 tests performed. This means of all those tested, about 5.29 percent of people are testing positive.

Meanwhile, there are 84 confirmed cases in Coffee County with 62 recoveries. This means there are 22 active cases, according to Tennessee Department of Health. There have been 2,813 negative tests performed in Coffee County.

The World Health Organization said Monday that Coronavirus patients without symptoms, also known as asymptomatic, are not spreading the virus.

WHO officials say that asymptomatic spread can occur, but that it is not the main way of transmission.
Officials said that “from the data they have, it seems to be rare that an asymptomatic person actually transmits onward to a secondary individual.”

Meanwhile, according to numbers released by the Tennessee Department of Health on Monday, there are now 82 cases of COVID-19 in Coffee County. There are 62 recoveries, leaving about 20 active cases of the virus.
