8/3/12 — Opal Quick Green
Graveside services for Mrs. Opal Quick Green, age 89, of Chattanooga, TN, will be conducted at 12:00 Noon CST (1 PM Eastern) on Friday, August 3, 2012 at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.
Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM (CST) on Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Green passed away at her home on Wednesday, August 1, 2012.
Mrs. Green was born in Culman, AL, the daughter of the late Jewel and Hester Henslee Quick. She grew up in Manchester, TN, where she met and married her husband and they moved to Chattanooga, where they lived for 50 years. She was a member of East Ridge Church of Christ in Chattanooga.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Green was also preceded in death by one brother, Melvin “Shorty” Quick; and one sister, ONeal Quick Jernigan.
She is survived by her faithful and loving husband of 67 years, Marvin C. Green; one daughter, Phyllis Green Hill of Kingsport, TN; one son, Bruce (Lisa) Green of Houston, TX; four grandsons, Dr. Chris (Charity) Perry of Chattanooga, TN, Michael, David and Andrew Green of Los Angeles, CA; one granddaughter, Amy Perry of Knoxville, TN; two great grandchildren, Gracie Hope and Glory Faith Perry; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
The family will also receive friends in Chattanooga on Saturday, August 4, 2012 from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM at East Ridge Church of Christ.

8/3/12 — Kayden Honor Holliday-Vandegrift
Kayden Honor Holliday-Vandegrift, infant son of Nathan and Kristi Vandegrift, passed this life on Monday, July 30th, 2012 at Lincoln County Medical Center.
Kayden was born in Chattanooga, TN on June 20th, 2012.
He was preceded in death by one grandmother, Evelyn Vandegrift.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother, Dallas Holliday-Vandegrift; one sister, Alexus Holliday-Vandegrift both of Tullahoma; grandparents, Kurt Vandegrift, Vince and Tina Holliday, and Rhonda Holliday all of Melbourne, Florida; Aunts and Uncles, Chelsea Bronkie, Kenna Hood, Camry Hood, Livi Holliday, Justin George, Josh Vandegrift, Micah Vandegrift, Rebekah Vandegrift, Hannah Vandegrift; Great-Great Aunt, Pamela Owen; Great-Grandparents, Gloria Feuersanger, and Bill and C.J. Hodges; and numerous cousins.
Visitation will be Friday, August 3rd, 2012 from Noon to 3:00pm with the funeral service immediately following at 3:00pm in the Kilgore Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Randy Davis officiating.
Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

8/3/12 — A. Cleston Zirkle
Mr. A. Cleston Zirkle , 87, of Estill Springs passed away Tuesday at Morning Pointe of Tullahoma.
A native of Cassety, WV, he was the son of the late Lewis and Nola Alice Zirkle. In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Marie Zirkle.
He was a retired coalminer and a decorate US Army veteran having served in WWII.
He is survived by his daughter, two grandchildren, one great-grandson and a sister.
Graveside services with military honors will be conducted Friday, August 3, 2011 at Little Arlington Cenetery in Elkins, WV.
The family suggests that donations be made to Hospice of the Highland Rim, 110 E. Lauderdale St. , Tullahoma, TN 37388.

8/4/12 — JAMES “JIM” PAUL KLOD
JAMES “JIM” PAUL KLOD, age 59, of Belvidere, Tenn., departed this life on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at Southern Tennessee Medical Center.
Mr. Klod was born in Toledo, Ohio to the late John and Wanda Klod.
He was a self-employed journeyman carpenter. Mr. Klod last attended Keith Springs Baptist Church. He enjoyed wood working and was a member of the Franklin County Senior Citizens.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Klod of Belvidere and sons; Jamison Neil Klod of Clearwater, Florida and Darrin Tate Klod of Temperance, Michigan.
Visitation for Mr. Klod is scheduled for 5:00-8:00 P.M. Friday Evening in the chapel of Grant Funeral Services.
A tribute to Mr. Klod’s life service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Grant Funeral Services with Bro. Johnny Ray Bradford officiating.

Chase Jones Out As Head Baseball Coach At CCHS
After several district championships a region championship, one sectional championship and state tournament berth, Chase Jones has resigned as head coach of the Coffee County baseball team. Jones will be leaving the school system as well after serving the system for 13 years. Jones finishes with well over 200 wins as head of the program. He also served as an assistant football coach a few years ago. Jones’ teams went on to win six district championships: 2003, 2004, 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2011. In 2010, the Raiders went on to win the region and beat Tullahoma in the state sectional to earn the program’s first state tournament berth. Jones does plan to coach again in another system.
Domestic Dispute Leads To Drug Arrests
A domestic dispute at a residence on South Franklin Street leads to Tullahoma Police arresting three people living there to be arrested on drug charges. Officer Chris Coe charged Mitchell Harrison Ghea, 22, was charged with manufacture/delivery/sell of a controlled substance, disorderly conduct, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving on revoked/suspended license assault-domestic. He is being held in the Coffee County Jail under a $56,000 bond. Shawnee Kelsey Morgan, 21, was charged with manufacture/delivery/sell of controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and assault-domestic. She is being held under a bond of $53,000. William Anthony Nutt, 23, of South Franklin Street was charged with manufacture/delivery/sell of controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on a bond of $50,500 bond. Tullahoma. The officer allegedly found a quantity of marijuana in their possession, methamphetamines, $5,773 in cash, drug paraphernalia and a loaded pistol at the residence.
Motorcycle Wreck In Manchester
A local nineteen-year-old was riding his motorcycle late Tuesday afternoon on Jackson Street near Lowery Street in Manchester. The rider said the bike suddenly locked up tossing him to the pavement. The bike slid about 100 feet before coming to rest in a yard. The rider was taken to Medical Center of Manchester with road rash to all four extremities. The cause of the crash
is under investigation. Manchester Police Department was in charge of the scene.
Cedar Lane Finally To Widen In Tullahoma
Tullahoma’s Cedar Lane widening has been in the works for several years through the planning and design phases, and now the project is moving toward when the actual work will start. According to Public Works Director Wayne Limbaugh, a pre-bid meeting is set for 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 17 at City Hall to inform prospective contractors specifically about what the project will involve. According to the public works director, bids are scheduled to be opened on Aug. 24 meeting at the Public Works office building on Maplewood Ave. The widening will extend Cedar Lane from near Tractor Supply in the Forrest Gallery shopping center to just past the William Northern Boulevard intersection. The project is being provided through an 80 percent matching grant through the Department of Transportation. Tullahoma will pay the remaining 20 percent. Workers will have to move utility lines to make way for the widening.
Crimes Against Elderly On Rise
According to a report published by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, crimes against the elderly increased from 2009 to 2011. The study focused on crimes against persons and crimes against property where the victim of the crime was age 65 or older.
While the total number of all crime victims decreased 5 percent over the three-year period, the total number of elderly victims increased by 7 percent. The crime categories studied were robbery, burglary, assault and fraud.
All crimes were reported by Tennessee law enforcement agencies through the Tennessee Incident Based Reporting System (TIBRS).
The elderly are often targets of fraud, identity theft, neglect and abuse. The Tennessee Adult Protection Act requires the reporting of adult neglect, abuse or exploitation.
Highlights of the “Crimes Against the Elderly Report” include:
- More than 6 percent of all reported victims were elderly
- Burglary is the most common crime committed against the elderly
- More than 46 percent of robberies against the elderly occur at home
- 41 percent of all assault offenses against the elderly were committed by family members
