Friday night in Lewisburg Coffee County took on Marshall County in high school football. The Tigers jumped to an early 20-0 lead in the 1st quarter and held the same lead at half.
The Red Raiders scored their first points of the game, as Marshall County punter Aaron Medley watched a snap sail over his head and out of the end zone scoring a safety with 3:24 remaining in the third quarter, cutting the Tiger lead to 20-2. Later Marshall County would score another TD to extend the lead to 27-2. The Raiders would get the ball inside the Tiger 20 three times but got only one touchdown with a 12-yard touchdown run from Deangelo Rozier. Coffee County was forced to throw the ball several times just like the week before as QB Peyton Meeker went 13 of 27 for 121 yards. Rozier carried the ball 26 times for 79 yards.
After giving up over 200 yards in first half the Raider defense got tough and held Marshall County to only 50 yards in the 2nd half. Jordan Wilson played outstanding for the Raiders with several stops and earned the Gateway Tire and Service Player of the Week.
Coffee County (0-2) is off this week before traveling to take on Tullahoma in the annual “Coffee Pot” game on Sept. 7.
