County Road Commissioners Will Keep Their Jobs

The Coffee County Legislative Committee met Monday evening to discuss the possibility of abolishing the County Road Commissioner positions. Present were Members Bobby Bryan (chairman), Virgil Alford, Steven Jones, and Mark Kelly. It was said if the positions were abolished, Road Superintendent Steve Parks would save $6.300.00
a year. The Road Commissioners position is a four year term elected by the people and the total amount would be $25.200.00 over 4 years. Commissioner Alford made the motion to keep the Road Commissioners in their position with Jones seconding the motion. Three of the Road Commissioners were present.
Each commissioner present told how they perform their jobs and reported back to Mr. Parks, county road superintendent. At the end of the discussion a vote on the motion was taken and passed unanimously. The county will not abolish their position.
At the next Legislative meeting the Coffee County Constables will be up for abolishment. The committee will take a vote on what to do with the group that serves.

Investigation Continues Into Killings

Tennessee and Alabama investigators are working together to try to identify a suspect in a series of killings that left six people dead in the two states.
Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Kristin Helm said Wednesday that investigators are following evidence from four crime scenes that they hope will lead to an arrest or allow them to issue an alert to the public for a suspect.
Helm said the investigation has found that 1 of those who died, Warren Vincent Crutcher, knew the other victims.
Three women and a toddler were killed at two homes in Fayetteville while a man, Jeffrey Pope, and Crutcher were found dead in Madison County, Ala.
Helm said Crutcher had former or current relationships with the three women and was an acquaintance of the man.

Documentary “Chosin” To Be Shown At Motlow

To honor Korean War veterans, Motlow College is hosting a screening of the documentary “Chosin.” The documentary is about the Battle of Chosin Reservoir, an epic battle that took place in North Korea in November, 1950.
Tullahoma native Curtis Hice, the driving force behind the Motlow screening, said, “I wanted to give Korean War veterans a chance to see this great movie,” he said. “I knew that many wouldn’t get to see it unless an event like this was held. It will give non-veterans a chance to see what these guys went through, also.
The screening will be shown from 2 to 4 p.m. on Nov. 17 in Powers Auditorium, located in Eoff Hall on Motlow’s Moore County campus. Admission is free and open to the public.

Natural Project Moves Forward At AEDC

The commissioners of the Elk River Public Utility District has voted to approve an $875,000 expenditure to extend the natural gas mains at AEDC. General Manager Mike Gundersen told the commissioners AEDC has completed about 60 percent of the engineering work required for the project to move forward, adding that the number of buildings to be served by the new mains could be reduced to nine. Gundersen said ERPUD had estimated the main expansion would increase the AEDC’s natural gas load.
