7/27/14 —- Paul Lester Mason

Mr. Paul Lester Mason, age 94 of Manchester, Tennessee, passed from this life on Friday, July 25, 2014 at the VA Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee surrounded by his loving family.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Marshall Mason and Ester May Melton Mason, four sisters, Janice E. Mason, R. Louise Angle, Jimmie W. Mason, Bessie Milligan, and two brothers, Wiley R. Mason and Frank T. Mason

He is survived by one son, Robert Lester Mason and wife Tommie of Portland, Tennessee, two daughters, Estelle Paulette Garvin and husband Charles of Manchester, Tennessee, Mary Diane Vermillion and husband Daniel of Louisville, Kentucky, five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and three great -great grandchildren.

Mr. Mason was a member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church in Manchester. He worked for the VA Hospital until retirement after thirty-one years of service, including his Military Service. Paul was a World War II Veteran and was proud of his service to our Country. He enjoyed farming, working with his hands, playing cards, and his time with his dogs. He treasured life and his family and fellowship were the most important things.

Funeral Services for Mr. Paul L. Mason will be conducted on July 27, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Coffee County Funeral Chapel with Brother Roy Slaughter officiating.

Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Cannon County, Tennessee.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2014 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Coffee County Funeral Chapel, Manchester, Tennessee.

7/27/14 —— JONATHAN ALLEN FORD

JONATHAN ALLEN FORD, age 22, of Lynchburg, Tenn. departed this life suddenly on Friday, July 25, 2014, at Emerald-Hodgson Hospital in Sewanee, Tenn., from injuries he sustained from an automobile accident.

He was a 2010 graduate of Moore County High School, and was a member of the varsity football team. He loved fishing and swimming. Most of all, Jonathan was a loving, devoted, and “good” son, brother, friend and Christian.

He is survived by his parents; Tommy and Tressa Ford, brother, Dekota Ford, sisters, Erica and Abbie Ford all of Lynchburg. Uncles; Charles and Jeanetta Shields of Winchester and Michael Ford of Anniston, Ala., Aunts; Monicque (Wayne) Bones of Lincoln, Ala. and Melissa Ford of Manchester, Tenn., adopted family member, Sherry Price of Winchester and several cousins.

Visitation for Mr. Ford is scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Sunday, July 27, 2014, until Service time at 4:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Grant Funeral Services.

UPDATE!! Missing Persons Possibly Spotted In New Orleans

A mother from Manchester and a man from Murfreesboro, both missing since earlier this week, have allegedly been spotted at a location in New Orleans.
Murfreesboro police spokesperson Kyle Evans said the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office was able to confirm through video evidence and other means that Brooke Roberts and Noah Bodwell recently visited an unnamed location in Louisiana.
Coffee County Sheriff Steve Graves said they have NOT confirmed any of this information at this time and this is an open case until law enforcement makes contact with the two people that have been reported as missing.
Roberts, 30, was last seen Monday at the Harper’s Point Apartments in Murfreesboro where she worked as a leasing agent. Bodwell who lives at the apartment complex apparently has not been heard from since Monday as well.
Her SUV was found at the nearby Cason Trailhead greenway.
Investigators believe that the two parked Roberts’s SUV at the nearby Cason Trailhead Greenway where it was found because it was a safe location to leave the vehicle.

7/26/14 —— James Lurton Brock

James Lurton Brock, age 71 of Manchester, Tennessee, passed away on July 22, 2014 at the Harton Regional Medical Center in Tullahoma.

Mr. Brock will be fondly remembered as the Meat Butcher at Powers’ Market in Manchester for many years; a faithful member of the Manchester Church of God of Prophecy and loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother who liked trains, fire trucks and old westerns. He also enjoyed taking road trips and being a volunteer fireman for the Manchester Fire Department.

He was born in Pikeville, TN and was preceded in death by his father, the late James Allie Brock; and brothers, Charlie Brock and infant twins, Alton Brock and Aulton Brock.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lynda Sue Sparkman Brock of Manchester, TN; mother, Daltha Myrtle King Brock of McMinnville, TN; children, Jimmy L. Brock and his wife Debbie, Sue A. Anderson and her husband Steve, Johnny W. Brock and his wife LaNessia and Nancy D. Long and her husband Stacy all of Manchester, TN; five sisters, Joyce Pinkston of McMinnville, Tina Seals (Jimmy) of Manchester, Marie Hyatt (Harold) of Centertown, Clara McGee (Gordon) of McMinnville and Ruby Northcutt (Ricky) of McMinnville; three brothers, Wayne Brock (Sarah) of McMinnville, Reed Brock (Bonnie) of Merrillville, IN and Twyman Brock of Warner-Robbins, GA; ten grandchildren, Danielle Long, Miley Long, Hanna Brock, Dakota Finchum, Casey Brock, Janette King (Randall), Trent Anderson, Kayla Anderson, Brian Anderson and Sarah Anderson; two great-grandchildren, Julianne Brock and Torrey Anderson; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be on Friday, July 25, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Central Funeral Home in Manchester.

The Funeral Service will be conducted on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Central Funeral Home with Pastor L. E. Butler and Brother Steve Anderson officiating.

Burial will follow at the Hodges Cemetery in Van Buren County, TN.

Forum Allows Public To Hear From Candidates

To better inform the voters before the Aug. 7 Coffee County General and Manchester Municipal Elections, the Manchester Times and Thunder Radio teamed up last night (July 24) for a candidate forum at the Manchester-Coffee County Conference Center.
In total, 23 candidates from seven county-wide races and one city race were invited to participate in the event.
Candidates for District Attorney, Manchester Alderman and County Mayor participated in the forum sessions.
Candidates for Coffee County Trustee, General Sessions Judge, Register of Deeds, Road Superintendent and County Clerk spoke between forum events.

Three Advocacy Groups File Suit Against The State Of Tennessee

Three advocacy groups have filed a class action lawsuit against the state of Tennessee for allegedly failing to provide certain services as required by the federal health care law.
The lawsuit was filed Wednesday by the Southern Poverty Law Center, the Tennessee Justice Center and the National Health Law Program.
It follows a letter from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services that was sent to state officials last month, accusing them of failing to meet six of seven critical success factors required by the health care law.
According to the lawsuit, the state has failed to let people know within 45 days.

Tennessee’s National Parks: Big Fun and Big Business

They are some of Tennessee’s most pristine areas, and a new study shows national parks are not just great places to spend the day but also major drivers of the local economy. In 2013, said National Park Service spokesman Jeffrey Olson, national parks in Tennessee saw more than 8 million visitors, “and together those visitors spent more than $530 million. That supported 7,634 jobs in the state.” The report also shows that Great Smoky Mountains National Park remains the country’s most popular destination in the National Park System, with more than 9 million combined visitors in the park in Tennessee and North Carolina last year alone. Overall, there were more than 270 million visits to national parks across the nation last year, with related spending at nearly $15 billion and some 240,000 jobs supported. “Of all the jobs that we identified as supported by visitor spending in national parks, the bulk of those far and away – I think it was 197,000 – are in these local communities near national parks,” Olson said. “So, this visitation and the jobs have a big impact on those local communities.” July is “National Park and Recreation Month,” during which people across the United States are encouraged to get out of the house and check in on nature.
