The final 2 runners also had personal best times with freshman Aaron Buck running 22:04 and sophomore Trevor Reese running 25:20.
For the girls, Makenzie Morgan ran a solid time of 25:00 cutting a minute and 18 seconds off of her previous time on this course placing her 21st. Nadja Hansen was the next finisher for the Lady Raiders in 37th with a time of 27:11. Newcomer Claudia Bertuzzi turned in a time of 29:39 which bested her only other race of a few weeks ago at Lincoln County by a minute. Next up for the Red Raider “off-roaders” is the Region Championship Meet on Thursday in Smyrna at Sharp Springs. Races begin at 3 p.m.

basketball4The Rockets and Lady Rockets opened their home basketball season with a doubleheader split against Eagleville on Thursday.  The Lady Rockets raced out to a 15 to 4 lead after 1 quarter, only to see Eagleville close the gap to 18 to 16 at the half.  Coach Angela Houck made several defensive adjustments at the half to hold the Lady Eagles to 3 second half field goals  on the way to a 38 to 24 win.  The Lady Rockets were led in scoring by Ashley Starks who had 15 points and Morgan Jones added 13 points.  Danielle Baker added 4 second half points as the Lady Rockets improved to 2 and 0 on the year.  The Rockets got 11 points from Marcus Pendleton and 10 points from Chase Simpkins, but fell to the Eagles 39 to 30.  Eagleville’s Ethan Cobb led all scorers with 21 points, including 13 points in the penultimate 2nd half.  Westwood will travel to Murfreesboro on Monday night to take on Middle Tennessee Christian.  Tip-off for the girls game is 6 PM.

Will Coffee County Football Play In 6A or 5A Next Season?

TSSAAThe TSSAA has released school enrollment figures that will be used to classify high schools for football competition during the next two years. Schools have until Oct. 22 to request to move up to a higher classification.
Coffee County Head Coach Ryan Sulkowski said he and administrators are looking at their possibilities.
In November the TSSAA will announce region lineups for each of the six classifications. Class 6A will feature the state’s largest 32 schools and be divided into four regions. The other five classifications will be split into eight regions.
All 32 teams in Class 6A will compete in the postseason, while the other five classes, with about 55 schools each getting the top 32 teams into the playoffs. The top four teams from each region will qualify.
District 8-AAA will be split apart, with teams moving to 6A, 5A and 4A. Coffee Co. is the only current district team that would be in 6A.
If Coffee Co. moves down, it would likely join current district members Lincoln Co., Franklin Co., Shelbyville and Columbia in a 5A region. Other teams could possibly join that region as well. The only way the Raiders can move down is if a school or schools request to move up. If Coffee County decides to stay in 6A they would join Warren County as the only area school in 6A. 5 out of 8 Rutherford County schools will be in 6A.
Tullahoma and Lawrence Co. are slotted for Class 4A, and would likely be placed in a region with Giles Co., Marshall Co., Spring Hill, Page, and perhaps one or two other schools.

It’s Pink Out Time In Coffee County!

breast cancer shirt picThis fall 35 high schools across Tennessee are trading their traditional school colors for the pink jerseys for the fight against breast cancer. One of those schools is Coffee County High School.
The Red Raiders are hosting Pink Out Night on Friday, October 17th at 7:00 p.m. at Carden-Jarrell Field when they host Lincoln County. Pink Out Night is sponsored by Farm Bureau Insurance of Tennessee, and all proceeds go to the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.
“Our guys look pretty good in pink,” said Head Coach Ryan Sulkowski. “When we saw the jerseys, the team got pretty fired up. Everyone in our program knows someone who has been affected by breast cancer, and the players all know the importance of what we are doing in this game.”
A silent auction will take place during the game, and fans are encouraged to bid on each jersey. In addition, local merchants have pledged donations toward each jersey. Special pink versions of the famous Farm Bureau Insurance “Charlie” hats will be on sale, too.
The local coordinating sponsor of Pink Out Night is Farm Bureau Insurance Agency Manager Mark McBride.
“The community is really coming together to support Coffee County High School and this special fundraising activity,” McBride said. “The kids at the school are excited, the team is motivated, the parents are involved, and the business community is engaged. It’s a great cause and it will be a memorable night for Manchester.  McBride added, “We appreciate our in-school partners, the FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America).  This is the fourth year they have raised money for breast cancer awareness.  We are honored that we have been able to assist in making this pink out game a reality.”
