Will Coffee County Football Play In 6A or 5A Next Season?

The TSSAA has released school enrollment figures that will be used to classify high schools for football competition during the next two years. Schools have until Oct. 22 to request to move up to a higher classification.
Coffee County Head Coach Ryan Sulkowski said he and administrators are looking at their possibilities.
In November the TSSAA will announce region lineups for each of the six classifications. Class 6A will feature the state’s largest 32 schools and be divided into four regions. The other five classifications will be split into eight regions.
All 32 teams in Class 6A will compete in the postseason, while the other five classes, with about 55 schools each getting the top 32 teams into the playoffs. The top four teams from each region will qualify.
District 8-AAA will be split apart, with teams moving to 6A, 5A and 4A. Coffee Co. is the only current district team that would be in 6A.
If Coffee Co. moves down, it would likely join current district members Lincoln Co., Franklin Co., Shelbyville and Columbia in a 5A region. Other teams could possibly join that region as well. The only way the Raiders can move down is if a school or schools request to move up. If Coffee County decides to stay in 6A they would join Warren County as the only area school in 6A. 5 out of 8 Rutherford County schools will be in 6A.
Tullahoma and Lawrence Co. are slotted for Class 4A, and would likely be placed in a region with Giles Co., Marshall Co., Spring Hill, Page, and perhaps one or two other schools.
