Human Remains Found On AEDC Property
Human remains including a human skull were found near Arnold Air Force Base property early Monday morning by hunters.
Manchester Assistant Police Chief Adam Floied said that the remains have possibly been in the woods for a number of years.
Floied said they are treating this as a death investigation until they identify the remains.
Coffee County Sheriff Steve Graves said the Anthropology Research Facility from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville will be here today to collect the remains. They will work to identify the remains. Graves said the skull and other body parts were found in a very thick area of trees. The Anthropology Research Facility in Tennessee is one of only five centers in the United States.
Manchester Police has taken the lead in the investigation of the case. AEDC Police, the District Attorney’s office, and Coffee County Sheriff’s Department are assisting.
State Demands Smoke Removal System Upgrades Needed Before New Jail Can Open
Construction managers now say an additional $362,000 is needed for upgrades to the smoke removal system before inmates can be moved in. The upgrades were recently demanded by state fire marshals.
Construction managers and county officials will meet at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the Coffee County Administrative Plaza.
Despite the fact that all architectural plans, drawings and specifications were approved up front by state and local building officials two years ago, fire marshals are now saying the smoke evacuation system fails certain tests and is not adequate for inmate safety.
Warren County Sheriff Deputy Hurt In High Speed Chase
Two people were arrested Friday following a high-speed pursuit that left a Warren County Sheriff’s Deputy slightly injured.
Sheriff Jackie Matheny said an investigator was attempting a traffic stop on 24 year old Steven Matthew Brady and 29 year old Tammy Renee Cruisinberry, who were both wanted locally-Brady for violation of parole and Cruisinberry for violation of probation. The pursuit began in McMinnville.
Matheny said Brady refused to stop and led officers on a pursuit on Highway 108 into Grundy County. The pursuit, which also included officers from Grundy and Coffee Counties, then led back into the Viola area, where Brady’s vehicle reportedly struck a patrol vehicle, causing it to flip several times and land on its top. Deputy, Billy Joe Crouch, who was driving the patrol car, suffered only minor injuries.
Brady and Cruisinberry drove into a field and fled on foot. Brady was caught quickly by deputies. Cruisinberry was capture by a TWRA officer.
Brady will face numerous charges, including aggravated assault.
