Women’s Self-Defense Class At Manchester City Hall

Self-defenseThe Manchester Police Department will be teaching a “Women’s Self-Defense Class” targeting Real Estate Agents in and around our community.
Due to the number of assaults in recent years that have been aimed at real estate agents, police feel like this could be a “life-saving” course to provide. Instructors will be Manchester Police Department officers who are defensive tactics instructors.
The date for this class is November 20th, at 6 p.m. The location will be at Manchester City Hall, in the upstairs board / court room. Please RSVP with Assistant Chief Adam Floied or Officer Daniel Ray as soon as possible at 931-728-2099. There is no charge for this class.
They would also like to see if there is an interest in another class for any female wanting to learn strategies and tactics to protect themselves (open class for any female, regardless of occupation). If there is enough interest they will have a class in December, date to be announced. Please call the department or contact them on Facebook to let them know if you would be interested in attending the classes.

An electrical malfunction may have started the camper fire… Photos provided

Saturday Morning (11/15) at approximately 6:40am, Manchester Fire and Rescue responded to a camper trailer on fire. The location of the fire was the corner of Country Club Dr and the Murfreesboro Hwy. (Hwy 41). Upon arrival, fire crews found a 5th wheel style camper trailer on fire. The only occupant of the camper was outside the trailer so fire crews concentrated on extinguishing the blaze.
Coffee County Sheriff’s deputies and Manchester policemen blocked Murfreesboro Hwy at Country Club Drive due to a fire hose being laid across the roadway.

Manchester firemen worked hard during the cold weather.

Power lines down on top of the trailer impeded fire crews until Duck River Electric arrived and confirmed the power was off. The fire was extinguished and the resident was aided by the Red Cross after being checked by personnel from Coffee County EMS.
The cause of the fire appears to be an electrical malfunction, however the Manchester Fire Department will continue to investigate.

State Rep Wants More Regulations To The Abortion Law In Tennessee

abortionOn the heels of the most controversial issue of the recent election, there’s a plan to add more regulations to abortion in Tennessee.
WSMV-TV reports a bill on the table will require any woman seeking an abortion to have an ultrasound before the procedure. The measure is modeled after a similar law in Texas.
The bill was introduced by Rep. Rick Womick (R-Rockvale). It requires a woman to have an ultrasound between 24 and 72 hours before having an abortion, unless the abortion is part of a medical emergency.
The bill would require the woman to view the ultrasound. If she chose not to view it, a medical professional would describe it to her, including details like the size of the embryo, the presence of a heartbeat, and arms and legs.
Planned Parenthood opposes the bill, saying that most women have already made up their minds before they have an abortion.

Motlow College May Hire More Faculty

Motlow 3A plan to offer free tuition to all Tennessee high school graduates has some higher-education institutions looking to hire more faculty.
Gov. Bill Haslam announced the initiative as a way to help boost the number of Tennesseans with two- or four-year degrees to 55 percent, up from 33 percent now.
The Daily News Journal reports that Motlow State Community College plans an open house at its Smyrna campus on Tuesday. The school is looking for instructors in almost 30 areas including math and music.
Across the state, about 56,000 of Tennessee’s roughly 62,000 high school seniors have applied for free tuition, but officials have said they don’t expect that many to participate in the program.
Cheryl Hyland, who directs Motlow’s Smyrna campus, says the school wants to be prepared.
