Two People Killed In Normandy Crash
According to Tennessee State Trooper Chad McAnally, Michelle L. Lumbley, 31, of Ragsdale Road in Manchester and Raymond D. Cunningham, 33, of Front Street in Normandy were killed in a vehicle crash early Saturday morning.
Lumbley was driving a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee when it overturned into a field near the Normandy Fish Hatchery, inside Bedford County. The crash apparently occurred around 12:30am but was not discovered until 6:00am Saturday morning.
Lumbley and Cunningham were both thrown from the vehicle.
Fire Destroys Hillsboro Home
A fire was reported at about 8:15 Thursday night in Hillsboro. The home owned by Matt Holder was fully engulfed when the Hillsboro Fire Department arrived. No one was at home at the time of the fire. The home was totally destroyed and two automobiles badly damaged.
Other Coffee County fire departments were called to the scene assist Hillsboro. The cause of the fire is undetermined and is under investigation.
The family lost everything in the blaze except for the clothes on their backs, according to a family member. The Holder family is in need of clothing; Matt wears 2x in shirts, 13 in shoes, and 38×32 pants. His 10 year old son wears a youth large and adult small shirts, 10 in shoes, and size 11 pants. 18 year old boy wears 32×34 pants, extra large long shirt, and 15 shoes. The Mom wears size 8 pants, Medium shirt, 10 shoe. Bring items to the Manchester Fire Station #1 on the Hillsboro Blvd and they will get the donations to the family.
Credit Card Fraud In Tullahoma
Police are investing a fraud case totaling $16,197.36 at Kroger in Tullahoma on Jan. 6.
Service Manager Jon Stephenson reported to Officer Tommy Elliott that two black males entered the store on Jan. 4 and made four fraudulent credit card transactions. The funds were loaded onto American Express gift cards.
Stephenson stated that he believed that the same two men conducted similar frauds in Shelbyville and Decherd stores in Tennessee along with two Kroger stores in Huntsville, Ala.
Detective Rana Pawlowski is investigating the Tullahoma incident.
Jury Selection Begins In Pearman
Jury selection begins Monday in the trial of Jacob Pearman, the man accused of murdering his wife Carla Pearman, formally Carla Dillard of Manchester. The murder took place in their home in Murfreesboro on Valentine’s Day in 2013. He’s also accused of aggravated child abuse of Carla’s son.
Judge David Bragg has granted a request that the jury be sequestered. That means the jurors will stay in a place all together and not be able to consume any media. The judge recently denied a request for a change of venue because of pre-trial publicity.
Pearman confessed to punching and then choking his wife to death after they argued about his child abuse charges. According to Pearman’s confession, Carla Pearman told Jacob that she would not be attending a court hearing scheduled for the next day in regards to his child abuse charge. She also told him that he needed to move out of the home so she could regain custody of her son.
Carla Dillard Pearman was a 2002 graduate of Coffee County High School.
Drug Bust In Franklin County
Franklin County Sheriff’s Office personnel recently charged a Fayetteville, TN. man with Manufacture/Delivery, Sell of a Schedule IV (Xanax) and Possession of Schedule IV.
A report filed by Deputy Martin Tyler stated that contact was made with Bradley C. Smith of 127 South Lincoln Rd., Fayetteville, TN. and an agreement was reached for Mr. Smith to deliver 22 Xanax pills to a location in Franklin County. Once Mr. Smith arrived at the previously determined location he was placed in custody by Sheriff’s Office personnel and transported to the Franklin County Jail where he was booked on a $30,000 bond. Mr. Smith has a General Sessions Court date of Thursday March 19th at 8:00am.
Participating in the investigation were Investigator Nick Watson, Deputy Martin Tyler and Deputy Kalyn Machuta.
1/12/15 —— Selby Henley Clay
Mrs. Selby Henley Clay age 91 of Pelham passed away Saturday, January 10, 2015, at Harton Regional Medical Center in Tullahoma.
She was a daughter of the late Clarence Henley and Dessie Sanders Henley and was preceded in death by her husband, Judge Elston Clay; children, Kerry, Wendell and Katie Clay.
She is survived by her children, Wayne and his wife, Lottie Clay of Pelham and Connie and her husband, Elmer Morris of Manchester; 7 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday in the funeral home chapel with burial to follow in Warren Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday 4-9 P.M. at the funeral home.
Arrangements are by Cumberland Funeral Home, 207 Mabee Avenue, Monteagle, TN.
1/14/15 —— Wanda Lee Baker Bush
Wanda Lee Baker Bush of Hillsboro, TN passed away Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015 at her residence at the age of 83.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 14 at 2 p.m. at the Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Prairie Plains Methodist Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. until time of service.
A native of Coffee County, she was the daughter of the late Ruffin Baker and Marcia Mosher Baker.
She was retired from AEDC after 43 years of service as an Associate Computer Programmer. She was a member of Prairie Plains Baptist Church. She also enjoyed gardening and crocheting.
In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband Fred Bush, brother Curtis Baker and a sister Carrie Elizabeth Baker.
She is survived by a son Fred L. Bush of the Prairie Plains Community and his special friend Rosie Barnes and Mrs. Bush’s heroine of Hillsboro. Her daughter Cynthia Pellham of the Prairie Plains Community. Nephew Steven Baker and his wife Betsy of Covington, Ga.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Prairie Plains Cemetery.
1/13/15 ——- James Thomas Franklin
Funeral services for Mr. James Thomas Franklin, age 82 of Manchester will be conducted at 3 pm, Tuesday, January 13 from the Manchester Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brandon Stutts officiating.
Burial with military honors will follow at the Concord Cemetery.
Visitation with the Franklin family will be from 11 am Tuesday until funeral time at the funeral home. Mr. Franklin passed this life Sunday, January 11, 2015 at his home in Manchester surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Franklin was born in Overton County, Tennessee the son of the late William Hugh Franklin and Elizabeth Grace York Franklin.
He was a veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War, serving sixteen years in the US Navy as a Chief Petty officer. Following his service in the Navy, Mr. Franklin served in the National Guard for three years. James was a Christian man, loved to walk, hike, watch birds and was a avid reader. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and often taking them on hiking adventures.
In addition to his parents, James was also preceded in death by a grandson, Jagger, by four brothers, William, Harvey, Don, Jerry and Doyle Lee Franklin, and by a sister, Vonda Petgen. He is survived by:

Westwood Rockets Advance in Conference Tournament
Beating a team for a 3rd straight time in a single season is a tall order indeed, but that is exactly what the Rockets of Westwood did on Saturday afternoon in the first round of the Duck River Valley Conference Tournament. The Rockets, who sweated out a 2 point win on Thursday night against Huntland, blew open a tight game in the 2nd quarter to sting the Hornets 42 to 25 in the opening round of the tournament played in Chapel Hill. A Jake Hollandsworth 3 pointer with 58 seconds remaining in the first quarter tied the game at 7 and the Rockets never trailed again. Westwood built a 16 point 2nd half lead as Coach Will Panell was able to empty his bench. Hollandsworth was the hot shooter on the night for the Rockets as he drained three 3 pointers to finish with 13 points. Byron Sullivan finished with 7 points as he was a force to be reckoned with on the offensive and defensive boards. With the win, Westwood advances to the round of 8 as they will take on 2nd seeded Liberty on Monday night. That game will tip off at 7:45 and will be played at Forrest.
CHS Wrestlers Win 2 of 3 Matches at Shelbyville on Friday
The CHS wrestlers traveled to Shelbyville on Thursday night for a quad meet with Tullahoma, Franklin County and the host Eagles. The Raiders dropped a 69 to 12 decision to state-ranked Tullahoma. Austin Payne(wrestling at 182 pounds) and Dustin Seals(285) had pin fall wins for Coffee County to account for the Raider points.
The Raiders edged Shelbyville 45 to 36. Chase Pruitt(152) and Brandon Baumstein(113) got forfeit wins. Joel Singleton(126)got a decision win while David Tate(138), Owen Teague(132), Nicholas Damron(120), Joshua Tobitt(195) and Austin Payne(170) got pin fall wins.
Against Franklin County, Coffee County benefitted from 7 forfeit wins in a 57 to 24 win. Red Raiders getting the “walk-overs” were Jacob Rice(160), Ethan Garner(170), Trenton Garner(220), Dustin Seals(285), Brandon Baumstein(113), Nicholas Damron(120) and David Tate(138). Joel Singleton(126) gutted out a 4 to 2 decision win while Joshua Tobitt(195) and Austin Payne(182) got pin falls wins. Payne was 3 and 0 on the day with 3 pins. The Red and Black grapplers travel to Smyrna on Tuesday to take on Warren County and Smyrna. The first matches will begin at 6:00 PM.
