TDOT Suspends Most Road Construction For Memorial Day Weekend
Road construction won’t slow motorists down as they travel Tennessee’s highways this Memorial Day weekend. The Tennessee Department of Transportation will suspend all construction-related lane closures on interstates and state routes beginning at 12:00 noon on Friday, May 22 through 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26. This will provide maximum roadway capacity for motorists expected to travel in the state this Memorial Day weekend.
Motorists may still encounter some lane closures or restrictions while traveling through long term construction projects. Drivers should be aware that reduced speed limits will be in effect in work zones. Drivers convicted of speeding through work zones where workers are present face a fine of up to $500, plus court fees and possible increased insurance premiums.
Travelers can dial 511 from any landline or cellular phone for travel information, or follow TDOT on Twitter at www.twitter.com/TN511 for statewide travel.

Jackson, a 6-1 forward who came to Lynchburg from Seneca High School in Louisville, Ky., spent two seasons as a Lady Buck before graduating from Motlow May 9. She averaged 12 points, eight rebounds, two assists and three blocked shots per game during her sophomore season after averaging 6.5 points and five rebounds her freshman year.
She had a career high of 19 points in last year’s season-opening 96-90 overtime loss to Snead State. She also scored 11 points with eight rebounds and dished out eight assists in perhaps the Lady Bucks’ biggest win of her career, a 90-74 rout of visiting Chattanooga State on January 31.
The Kentucky State Thorobrettes participate in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) and are coming off an outstanding 2014-15 season when they finished with a 22-6 record and received an at-large bid to the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Championship.
It was only the third national tournament trip in school history and the best won/loss record since 1996-97. KSU dropped a 66-56 decision to Nova Southeastern University in the opening round.
The Thorobrettes are coached by Serena King-Coleman, who has a 75-62 overall record in five seasons at KSU.
