Express Pummel Sounds in Rare Road Loss

SoundsHanser Alberto drove in five runs to lead the Round Rock Express to convincing 13-2 win over the Nashville Sounds Monday night at The Dell Diamond.

The 11-run loss is the most lopsided defeat suffered by the Sounds since Sacramento clubbed Nashville, 20-1, on August 25, 2014.

After the Sounds (67-50) jumped out to a 2-0 lead after their third time up, Round Rock’s (56-61) offense erupted for three in the third, four in the fourth, three in the fifth and another three runs in the sixth.

The night started in a positive manner for Nashville as the second batter of the game, Jaycob Brugman, sparked a rally with a base hit up the middle. He scored three batters later when Rangel Ravelo delivered a run-scoring base hit with two outs.

More two-out hitting netted the Sounds another run in the third. Renato Nunez launched a solo homer to make it 2-0. It’s the team-leading 19th homer of the season for Nunez.

Things turned sour for Chris Jensen and the Sounds in a hurry in the bottom of the third. Joey Gallo lined a double off the wall in right field to get the Express on the board.

With Brett Nicholas at third and Gallo at second, Jared Hoying hit a bouncer to Ravelo at first. After a pause, Ravelo tried to flip the ball back to first and was wide of the bag. Both runners scored on the error to give Round Rock a 3-2 lead.

Alberto’s big night started the next inning when he cleared the bases with a three-run double down the left field line. He followed with a two-run homer in the fifth.

Round Rock opened a 10-3 lead after five innings and extended the advantage with three doubles in the sixth.

Jensen was charged with seven runs (four earned) in four innings and suffered the loss. Eduard Santos allowed five runs in just 1 1/3 innings in relief.

One bright spot for the Sounds was the two scoreless innings Bobby Wahl tossed in his Triple-A debut.

Game three of the four-game series is scheduled for Tuesday night in Round Rock. Right-hander Jharel Cotton (9-5, 4.70) starts for the Sounds against left-hander Yohander Mendez (2-0, 0.00) for the Express. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

The 2016 season is the Sounds’ 19th year in the Pacific Coast League and their second as the Oakland Athletics’ top affiliate. Tickets are available now by calling (615) 690-4487 or by visiting www.nashvillesounds.com.

Wayside property owners Mandated to pay Sewer Fees

sewer_coverRecently property owners in the Wayside Sewer System area received a letter from Coffee County Mayor Gary Cordell. The letter stated that starting Oct. 1, 2016 owners in the area of Wayside, Country Air and Deer Range will be required to pay fees for the sewer system.
Due to new standards set by the State of Tennessee Water and Wastewater Financing Board for the Wayside Wastewater system it has become necessary to reassess the financial situation.
The Wayside Sewer System is operated by Coffee County Water Wastewater Treatment Authority (CCWWTA) in conjunction with Coffee County Government.
In these subdivisions, environmental issues caused by improperly operating septic systems in low-lying wetland areas necessitated the construction of the sewer system, according to county officials. The problem was identified by the state in 2004. The system was installed by the county in 2006.
There are 125 homeowners and lot owners in the area that received letters informing them about this situation. Fifty-eight of those residents already use the system and pay $56 each month. Now the other home owners will be charged $56 per month; for lot owners $34 per month whether they use the system or not. If an owner wants to connect to system there is a $500 connection fee and $5,500 fee for the cost of tank and installation, effective until October 2017 when the cost of installation of the tank could change.
According to county officials, if a resident or property owner fails to pay for more than two months, a lien will be filed on the deed in the Coffee County Register of Deeds office. If no payments are made 90 days after the lien has been filed, the property will be condemned.

IRS Imposters are back at again

scam_alertArea law enforcement continues to receive tips about IRS imposters threatening arrests, lawsuits, and property seizures unless the victim pays up. Law enforcement says they’re investigating alongside several other law enforcement agencies across the United States. Police say these calls are not coming from the IRS. The department will never demand payment over the telephone. Typical IRS communication comes in the form of U.S. Mail. If you receive a phone call that you suspect is a tax scam, hang up and report it to the US Treasury, Office of Inspector General at 1-800-366-4484. To help avoid becoming the victim of a scam, police recommend never transferring funds through third-party wire or card services.
Recently a person fell victim to the crime in Shelbyville, costing that person $3,000.

Farmers get Drought Help

DroughtThe United States Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) declared Franklin and Lincoln Counties eligible to receive pasture assistance payments due to drought.
According to Rhonda Scharer of the Franklin County FSA office, “Franklin County farmers are eligible to receive a disaster payment based on their acres of pasture and the number of animals they have grazing. Producers can utilize the payment at their discretion to assist them in dealing with drought conditions. Currently the drought assistance program covers pastures only and does not include hay.”
