The Westwood Lady Rocket soccer team won their second straight contest on Tuesday night as they defeated Community 3 to 2. In a match you heard here on Thunder Radio, as part of the 1st National Bank Hometown Sports Series, the Lady Rockets used 3 unanswered goals in the middle of the game to capture the conference win. Westwood outshot Community 11 to 7 in a match in which they dominated the time of possession.
Community drew first blood in the 22nd minute on a goal by Jemima Ramos. Brittney Hernandez used a brilliant attack from the left wing to chip the tying goal past the Community keeper in the 27th minute. Faith Willoughby added a goal 2 minutes later off an assist from Anna Johnson to give Westwood the 2 to 1 lead at the half.
In the second half, Luz Basurto added the game winner as she pushed a rebound past the keeper off a feed from Diana Ramirez. Community added a goal in the 60th minute but it was not enough to deny the Lady Rockets their 3rd win overall. The Lady Rockets are now 3 and 1 in conference play.
The Lady Rockets are back in action on Thursday when they travel to Sewanee to take on St. Andrew’s. That match is set to kick off at 4:30 PM.
