Westwood Boys Play In DRVC Tournament

The Westwood Rockets boys played a very strong first half against a high powered Liberty offense but fell 36-26 in the DRVC Tournament. The Rockets played sound defense and rebounded very well allowing Liberty only one shot on offense and eliminating second chance points. On offense the Rockets moved the ball well and attacked the basket with force putting Liberty into some foul trouble in the first half. Vols Want Strong

According to Volquest, UT is waiting for a decision from Louisville’s Charlie Strong on whether he wants to be the Vols football coach. Strong has reportedly spent Wednesday morning visiting with Tennessee athletics director Dave Hart, as Louisville’s athletics director Tom Jurich has been working on a contract extension and raise for his third year head coach. Jurich has said in the past he would beat any offer to keep Strong at Louisville. Coffee County Rocks Rebels

Last night was a night dominated by the Coffee County Lady Raiders as they traveled to Winchester and defeated Franklin County 44-24. Senior Ginny Clayborne had a big night pumping in 20 points for the Lady Raiders. Alaina Lusk had 9 and Katie Reid added 7 to go along with 5 steals and 7 assists. Motlow Men On Top Of Standings

Heading into the final weekend of basketball games before a month-long holiday break, the Motlow Bucks are right where they want to be – in first place. The Bucks (7-2, 5-0) earned their top spot in the Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA) men’s standings with wins at Cleveland State 66-58 and Chattanooga State 109-99 this past weekend. Blue Raiders Heart Broken

Middle Tennessee had the biggest win improvement in the country in 2012, compiled an 8-4 overall record, and played for its conference championship. On Sunday night, the Blue Raiders found out that wasn’t enough as a bowl invitation was never extended to a program that owns more SBC wins than any team in league history. Vandy Goes Bowling Again

Vanderbilt has officially accepted an invitation to face North Carolina State of the Atlantic Coast Conference in the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl on New Year’s Eve. For the Commodores, it marks the first time in team history that Vanderbilt will make back-to-back postseason appearances. The Commodores played in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl last year. The Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl will be held in Nashville’s LP Field, the site of Vanderbilt’s 16-14 win over Boston College in the bowl’s 2008 edition. Rocket Boys Win Final Regular Season Game

The Westwood Middle boys finished the season strong with a victory over MTCS 55-42, avenging a loss earlier in the season. The Rockets were led by 8th grader Stephen Sullivan who had 18 points in the first half and ended with a game and career high 28points for the game.
