Old Stone Fort Golf Course May Reopen
Two local businessmen, Tink Driver and his partner Pete Jackson are working on plans to open the golf course at Old Stone Fort. Jackson says that the price for the land, at and around the old golf course will have to be negotiated. Driver hopes to use the land adjacent to the golf course to possibly expand the 9-hole course to 18-holes. Driver adds that lodging is also an idea they have. Westwood Wins Jamboree Matchup
This season has long been considered a rebuilding year for the Westwood Rockets football team. Maybe someone forgot to tell Coach Chad Dyer and his Rockets football team as the Rockets defeated Forrest Middle 24 to 16 in the Cascade Jamboree on Friday night. The Rockets scored on 3 of their 4 offensive drives as Byron Sullivan scored 2 TD’s and Jacob Floyd had the other. Marcus Pendleton added 2 extra points for the Rockets. In local sports on your Thursday, the Coffee County CHS girls golf team continued their sterling early season performance with an 18 hole win over Oakland on Thursday at WIllowbrook. The Lady Raiders were led in scoring by Savannah Quick who carded a 74 and Hollee Sadler who shot a 75 and to give the Lady Raiders a 149 to 207 win over the Lady Patriots. A busy day for local prep teams on Thursday begins at 3 PM at Willowbrook Golf Club as the CHS Lady Raider golfers will play host to Oakland in a 9 hole match. Motlow Bucks welcome former Rossview star to hoops roster
Motlow College men’s head basketball coach Matt Sligh has added another highly-touted student athlete to his roster with the announcement that Axel Magnuson, who prepped at Rossview High School in Clarksville, will be a member of the 2014-15 Bucks. He is the eighth signee announced by Sligh to join an already talented Motlow squad. Six of the eight additions are from Tennessee, fulfilling Sligh’s goal of signing the most talented players in the state. The Coffee County Central High School Lady Raider soccer team is hosting their annual scrimmage play day this Saturday beginning at 9 AM at Carden-Jarrell Field. The Lady Raiders will welcome in 5 other varsity squads as each team will play four, 30 minute periods. The Coffee County Central High School boys golf team dropped Cannon County on Monday in a nine hole match at Willowbrook Golf Club. The Raiders outshot the Lions by a final score of 161 to 199. Jacob Prater had the low round of the day as he carded a 37 on Willowbrook’s front nine. Hayden Proffitt got around in 39 strokes while Justin Hall carded a 41 and Reid Lawrence finished at 44.
