CHS Basketball Splits Doubleheader with Columbia
Needing a fast start against a dangerous Columbia team, Coffee County got exactly that on Friday night. The hot shooting Lady Raiders built a 10 point lead in the first 4 minutes and coasted home to a 56 to 42 win over the Lady Lions. Closing out the regular season with momentum was the goal for the Rockets and Lady Rocket basketball teams on Thursday night as Huntland visited the Joel Vinson Gym at Westwood on Thursday night. In the girls game, the Hornets opened up an 8 point lead in the second quarter before the Lady Rockets closed the half out with a furious rally to trail by one at the half. Coffee County Swim Team Members Headed To Region
This week the Coffee County high school swim team was in action and several swimmers have qualified for the region tournament. Thursday Sophomore Emily Warner joined 6 of her teammates in qualifying for region. Her time of 34.47 in the 50 meter freestyle is her personal best. The Coffee County Youth Basketball League tournament tips off on Saturday at the Joe Frank Patch Memorial Gym at CHS. Games will tip off at 9 :00 AM as the 4 quarterfinal games for boys and girls will determine the Final 4. Winners on Saturday will advance to the semifinals on January 17th with the championships being decided on January 24th. The Motlow Bucks, ranked No. 26 in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association poll, shook off the rust of three weeks without a game by hosting and beating the Martin Methodist College JV team 128-89 Tuesday night at Copperweld Arena. The Coffee County wrestling team hosted St. Andrews-Sewanee and Whitwell on Tuesday night at the Joe Frank Patch Gymnasium and came away with 2 wins. The Raiders got off to a slow start versus Whitwell as they dropped the first 2 matches before rolling off 7 straight wins to take a commanding 42 to 12 lead. Difficult Night For Raider Basketball
Shelbyville got off to a hot start on Tuesday night in high school basketball as they led Coffee County 21-3 during the first half before going on to lead 33-16 at halftime. In the 3rd quarter Shelbyville, playing on their home court extended its advantage to 33 points, 55-22. The Eaglettes pulled away even more in the final quarter with the mercy rule enforced as they defeated the Lady Raiders 72-25.
