2016 Year in Review – Middle School and High School Cross Country
As 2016 draws to a close, Thunder Radio Sports looks back at some of the highlights of the calendar year for each of the 12 prep sports. The Westwood Middle School cross country teams had another phenomenal year in their 3rd year of existence as both boys and girls teams swept most of the local meets in which they competed. Preds Shut Out By Kings
The Los Angeles Kings scored three times in the third period on their way to a 4-0 win over the Nashville Predators on Thursday night at Bridgestone Arena. The result moves Nashville’s overall record to 15-13-5, including a 0-2-1 mark in their last three at home. Nashville generated plenty of chances through the first 40 minutes, registering 21 shots and finding themselves down 1-0 on a first-period goal from the Kings. Red Raider Basketball Captures Tournament Title
The ability to slow down the East Hamilton Hurricanes high tempo attack and a huge second half comeback lifted Coffee County to the tournament title of the Red Raider Invitational on Wednesday night. Trailing by 7 points entering the 4th quarter, the Red Raiders played nearly flawless basketball in the 4th quarter to rally for the 66 to 59 win before an electric crowd at the Joe Frank Patch Memorial Gym. Coffee Swimmers Continue Their Charge to State
The Coffee County Swim team gained another state qualifier on Thursday night as they closed out the team competition portion of their season at LaVergne. Kaylee Williams posted a state qualifying time in the 500M freestyle. In the team competitions, both the Red Raiders and Lady Raiders finished in 3rd place for the meet behind LaVergne and Stewarts Creek. CHS Wrestlers Drop Matches at Forrest on Tuesday Night
The Coffee County wrestling team finished off their pre-Christmas schedule on Tuesday night with a three way dual meet at Forrest. Coffee County fell to Forrest and Centennial in the dual matches. Reid Lawrence(170 pounds) and Owen Teague(152) got pinfall wins for the Raiders against Forrest. Rein Bozich(145) was also credited with a forfeit win in his match. The Raiders gave up 7 forfeit wins as they were blanked by Centennial. Raider Basketball Advances to Tournament Title Game with Tuesday Win
A late run midway through the 2nd half lifted the Red Raider basketball team to a 53 to 40 win over Red Bank on Tuesday night in Day #2 of the Red Raider Invitational. Coffee County outscored the Lions 22 to 2 during an 8 and a half minute span to turn a 3 point deficit into a 17 point lead. Westwood Basketball Duo Named to All Conference Teams
A pair of Westwood Middle School basketball players were named to the Duck River Valley All Conference team last week. The all-conference teams for 2016 were announced at the conclusion of the DRVC Tournament on Saturday at Cascade. Eighth graders Cruz Pitsinos for the Rockets and Valarie Barger for the Lady Rockets were selected for their season’s performance for Westwood. Pitsinos, who transferred in to Westwood this past summer, was a guard and forward for the Rockets this season.
