Three was the magic number for the Lady Raider volleyball team on Saturday as they finished in 3rd place of the Lady Raider Southern Slam with a record of 3 & 3. The Lady Raiders got 2 wins on Saturday morning in straight set sweeps of Lincoln County and Fayetteville before their final 2 games of pool play to Santa Fe and White County. In the championship bracket, Coffee County got a straight sweep of Warren County before falling to eventual tournament champion Eagleville. Statistical leaders for the Lady Riders were: Payton Nicoll led the team in aces for with 8, Cursten Vaughn led in kills with 27, Aerial had 5.5 blocks, Brittany Williams had 34 assists and Sara Brown had 50 digs. The Lady Raiders will be on the road Tuesday as they put their perfect district record on the line against defending district champion Columbia. First serve will be at 6 PM.
The Coffee County Lady Raider soccer team finished 3rd out of 6 teams this weekend in Franklin County’s Rebel Classic. The Lady Raiders finished pool play on Saturday with a 1 & 1 record which was good enough to earn a berth in Sunday’s consolation game against Ooltewah. In Saturday’s opener, the Lady Raiders got an inspired defensive effort plus goals from Alex Ellison and Mackenzie Anderson to defeat the host Franklin County Lady Rebels. After falling to Walker Valley in the 2nd pool game, the Lady Raiders were slotted into Sunday’s 11:30 AM consolation match vs. Ooltewah. Maclay Brandon found the back of the Owls net as the Coffee County defense combined for the shutout in a 1 to 0 win. With the win, Coffee County has won 3 of their last 4 matches. The Lady Raiders will return to district play AND their home field on Tuesday as they play host to Lawrence County in a 6 PM match. The match will be played on the newly renovated soccer field behind the Raider Academy and will be broadcast on Thunder Radio.
